Would like to just recommend this beautiful beach resort and especially would like to acknowledge the great service that Lucky gave and Hour gave....they should be really rewarded for their service! all they went above and beyond made our stay wonderful. Of course the beach is beautiful and the snorkeling trip was lovely had a wonderful stay. We stayed in two different accommodations and actually preferred the non beach from bungalows to the beach front. Much roomier and quiet. highly recommended especially if you found all the city tours to be so jam packed Erica and Mike
It is hard to imagine a more beautiful location than Sok San beach. An incredible white sand beach lined with palm trees and a warm clear blue sea. With a number of residences offering beach chalets from as little as $20 a night, I had thought that by paying more than $150 a night we would experience a very special stay. Our chalet was a good size with WiFi, aircon, fans and fridge. But it had rock solid beds, a mechanical pump near the chalet that woke us throughout the night and very basic bathroom facilities, not the cleanest either. On arrival we opted to use the resort’s private boat, at double the price of the regular ferry, but due to sea conditions it couldn’t dock at the resort so we were dropped on the other side of the island and had to climb into an army-style van for a very bumpy ride across the island. This van then had to go back to collect the luggage which finally arrived one and a half hours later - when all we had wanted was to swim in the sea after a long journey! As for the return boat journey, we were put on the blue boat, rather than the catamaran. I don’t know if this made a difference, and the sea was rough, but it was a nightmare one hour journey home, fighting against sea sickness and actually in fear of capsizing. It’s such a shame as this resort has so much potential, but we did still have a lovely stay. I think a little more investment is needed to raise the standards of this resort to match the prices they charge - this could then be a wonderful place to stay. …
We stayed nine nights at the Resort. The beach was wonderful, the staff nice and friendly. The breakfast was really good and so was the food at restaurant. The staff at the restaurant had difficulties with English and was not trained for the job. The daily cleaning of the room was not good, but it always smelled good after they had been there. 😆
I'm a little 50\50 on SSBR. I typically only leave good reviews but this ones mostly negative. If it weren't for a few excellent staff, the location and the fact that being an island things are more difficult I'd be giving it 1 or 2 stars due to the price tag. I'm giving it 3 (1 for location, 1 for senior staff and 1 for the remote handicap) The excellent: - Lucky, the manager who was on during our visit; he's excellent and does a fantastic job. - booking service and speed boat service was run very smoothly. Our return trip required an unexpected truck ride to the other side of the island but i think it must have been low tide and the boat unable to dock at the pier. - location is pretty hard to beat. Excellent beach with amazing sunrises and sunsets. The good: - wait staff and restaurant facilities The bad: - had to ask 3 times over a day for toilet paper which i ended up collecting myself. - we do re use our bath towels however we had to use one bath towel as a floor mat at one point. We expected it to be replaced since it was you know, soaking wet on the shower floor... instead it was just hung on the balcony (were we supposed to re use this?) Also had to ask twice over the day for a fresh one (ended up using a beach towel) The terrible: - our bed sheets were covered in filthy stains on arrival. We had these replaced for the second night however the replacements were almost as bad (see pics). The first nights looked like poo stains the second blood stains. - the bathroom \ shower; no hot water (we're on an island and it was 30 degrees so didn't bother us too much) what was an issue for us however was it appeared to not have been cleaned in years. It smelled terrible when we walked in and was covered in mould. The tap leaked 24\7 which is incredibly irritating when trying to sleep especially considering we paid extra for beach front rooms so we could listen to the ocean as we slept. I ended up using a flipper to solve the problem. I hate complaining and felt uncomfortable having to ask for a few simple things and wanted to try and relax rather than complain about 1st world problems. I try to think of the surrounding villagers and what sort of conditions locals live in comparison to the SSBR rooms to remain positive and thankful but i still feel a bit ripped off having paid $144 usd a night. Clean sheets and a clean bathroom should be the number 1 priority of any place calling itself a resort. They just need to invest in proper maintenance of rooms, periodic full cleaning of bathrooms (not just wiping it down between guests) and replacing their bed linen if they want to continue charging what they do. 5 years ago the price was probably right, these days I'd only pay half what we did. Was supposed to be the highlight of our trip to relax and fully unwind before flying home and back to work. Instead felt a little let down. …
Our family absolutely loved our visit to this beautiful resort! Pristine beach, clear water - what not to love! The staff were eager to help and you can tell there was some money invested in the resort. It was easy to walk into the local Sok San village when we wanted to explore local restaurants to organise our own activities.
