We stayed here with our two year old for five nights - and the first thing that must be said is the staff and GM go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. The staff were so friendly (especially to our son) and helpful. The villas were spacious and super comfortable. The food was also delicious! Its no easy feat to be operating at this level during a pandemic, and we were really impressed at how Song Saa has adapted their policies to make us feel safe in the midst of COVID-19. For example, we had to fill a health waiver and the island doctor took temperatures every morning. I believe they also implemented extra cleaning procedures. We hope to go back someday!

This, as many have already said, is like a trip to the Maldives but with a conscience. Food and accommodation are top notch and the staff are wonderful. The reef is thriving with very good snorkelling (not quite like the Maldives) and the beach is gorgeous. We stayed for 12 nights all-inclusive (my wife and 2 children aged 14 & 12) in a 2 bedroom over water villa which was huge with all mod cons and AI covered everything (apart from reserve wine list) including sparkling Rose / Prosecco. We flew into Phnom Penh and the social and economic challenges of this country are very apparent, particularly with the levels of plastic litter and pollution. We drove for c.6 hours to Sihanoukville (which is pretty grim) on the coast where the boat takes you out to Song Saa and for the entire time we saw plastic discarded on the streets, fields, streams and public areas. We flew back from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh and this was much better than the drive. Once on the boat the challenges of this beautiful country are somewhat forgotten other than the constant reminder of the plastic pollution which washes up on other islands and can be seen in streams floating in currents on the sea (there isn’t one recycling plant in the whole of Cambodia). The local village on Koh Rong has had major funds donated by the foundation at Song Saa and they are doing some excellent outreach work with them, especially the children. A visit there is well worth it and we also brought a lot of old clothes with us to donate and pens / paper. Days on the island drifted away easily with Yoga every morning before a fabulous breakfast, snorkelling, kayaking (they need to replace the broken windsurfers), reading, visits to the spa, hanging out at the plunge-pool of our villa, sundowners with magical sunsets, lots of extra activities on in the day if you want them and excellent suppers. One suggestion is to get some more chilled / deep house / ibiza type tunes to listen to while sat on the bar beds watching the glorious sunsets. The very limited playlists on offer (and on constant repeat) was a real miss. More people need to go to Cambodia and support the people while at the same time challenge the looming environmental disaster and hope that the seemingly apathetic government realise that sustainable eco-tourism will attract more affluent travellers willing to invest in their country. Well done to the team at Song Saa and keep on raising the bar of luxury travel, social outreach and environmental sustainability.

Dear GlobalTraveller36, Greetings from our Island Paradise. Thank you for taking the time to write a review on TA about your recent stay with us. I'm very happy to read that apart from the plastic issue which I will address shortly, you and your family enjoyed your time with us. I note your comment about the music at our Vista Lounge and we will endeavour to improve our Ibiza anthem selections as you've suggested. Your comments about the challenges of plastic pollution throughout Cambodia are well noted. Over the past 10 years we have been leading efforts in our local community, Prek Svay, to reduce the pressure of environmental waste on our beautiful coastal habitats. This included the establishment and upkeep of the island’s first Solid Waste Management Centre, that we still run today. Interestingly, the Program Manager for our Foundation was recently invited to speak at the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Phnom Penh as a professional panelist speaker - to a wide audience of local entrepreneurs, NGO managers and government officials - on the successes and solutions that we have found in the Koh Rong Archipelago facing plastic pollution. As such, we are now at the start of a long but exciting road to improving environmental protection in Cambodia through a reduction in plastic waste. Conversations are happening at the highest level - and Song Saa is integral to championing future initiatives to mitigate the challenges of plastic waste around our local ecosystems. Thank you for your donation to the Village and Sala Song Saa during your visit, where existing values are sustained and the needs of local communities are provided for, through processes that value and respect the natural and human world. I appreciate that during your stay we able to provide a place of peace and gentleness where mind, body and soul are restored to their natural stillness and harmony. The entire Song Saa Family and I look forward to welcoming you and your family back sometime. Until then, my best, Donald Wong.

We visited Song Saa for 5 nights towards the end of an amazing adventure around Cambodia and we were so pleased we booked to stay here. The world was becoming an increasingly uncertain place with Covid19 and we were incredibly lucky to be able to stay on this magical island whilst travel was still an option. We were greeted enthusiastically at the jetty upon arrival and from this point on our stay was truly magical. The team were all absolutely fantastic, real stars and they couldn’t do enough for you and all with a smile on their face. I absolutely loved our room, we chose the Beach Bungalow and you really don’t get the perspective of the space and beauty of these rooms until you are there, the pictures do not do them justice. The beds were so comfortable and the layout of these villas gave you so much privacy, every detail was thought of and I think I found my dream bathroom. We chose the All Inclusive food and drink option which was lovely as it gave you that sense of freedom. Dining was a real treat and every night was a new venue, a true gastro experience which added to the uniqueness of Song Saa. The food was amazing and if there was something you weren’t keen on then the chef was more than happy to rustle something else up. I think our favourite meal of the day was the amazing breakfast , not only for the the glorious food but for the whole experience of being amongst such beauty - the variety of fish swimming in the lapping water and just being in the moment of Song Saa life. Thank you to all the Song Saa family for making our trip so special, we have memories made forever and can’t wait to return one day to make new ones. Carrie and Stewart Roome/Adcock
