I highly recommend this place. The family were wonderful, our accommodation was perfect, the meals delicious and the bird tours were excellent. We arrived as the world was waking up to corona virus, our plans were changing rapidly. Casa Botanica was a special reprieve from the madness unfolding everywhere. As we arrived we saw swallowed tailed kites swooping above. Our cabin had the most spectacular view. We woke to the sound of the birds' morning chorus. Pepe took us on some amazing bird watching tours - his knowledge is excellent and his English perfect. To top it all, they offered us a plan B to live in one of their cabins if we failed to get a flight back home. Pepe and his whole family were so welcoming, kind and helpful, they made sure that our holiday ended well.
We spent 3 nights at Casa Botania and had a great time! We love the outdoors and were looking for something in the mountains as a balance to our time on the coast. This was perfect! We went bird-watching with Pepe and visited the Boruca village (indigenous tribe). The accommodations are comfortable - with amazing views. Finally - the food is delicious! Breakfast and dinners outdoors on the open patio was always a treat. Thank you Kathleen and Pepe.
We had a very good lunch at a wonderful place! Good food (try the quiche Lorraine..), friendly and accurate service, English and even Dutch language no problem, views to dye for! A beautiful garden with lots of birds. Tip: Ask for a guided tour to the Finca Cantaros! (15 min drive) 💚
What makes Casa Botania so very special is the love and care and amazing people that run it! This is the cream that separates this beautiful and charming lodge from the competition... all the rooms are full of character and the balconies face west towards the sunset... and being up at about 1500 meters it is cool and avoids the heat and humidity further down towards San Vito... yet it is only a 15 minute drive. The views are spectacular... mountains float on clouds and you can see all the way to Buenos Aires, the next county, perhaps 30 miles away! Pepe and Kata have built this lodge with love and attention to detail. The rooms are surrounded by flowering plants and exotic ferns that attract stunning humming birds and other species... truly a paradise. The prices are great value for money... breakfast is divine... fresh tropical fruit, home made delicious bread and banana cake and eggs cooked to order... with unlimited Costa Rican coffee. The dining terrace is stunning , with organic architecture by a local and famous artist, Pancho. Pepe is an expert bird watcher and photographer and arranges tours far and wide. My only regret? I was in Costa Rica on business so I would have loved to have spent more time just relaxing and enjoying the nature you find yourself immersed in! Just stunning! …
Hi guys, Katleen and Pepe (the owners) and their staff were as pleasant as could be. This is a small-scale hotel. The grounds and the mountain valley scenery were wonderful. Our room (rana) was a 2 storey bungalow. A glass front and patio with view of the valley. There was a fridge and a coffee maker in the room. The gourmet meals were served in a charming artist-designed dining area. We chose this location because we wanted to visit the Wilson Gardens, which are very conveniently nearby. Regards Schliek
