This little cosy getaway is as close as you can come on, how I imagine Paradise must be. The hosts are friendly and you feel like you are at home. They do everything they can to make your stay a great experience. Staffs are smiling and helpful, and they make an incredible breakfast with homemade yoghurt, fresh fruit, homemade bread and a different cake every day. And a lot of delicious homemade Marmelade. Rooms are beautifully decorated and the terrace is a perfect place to relax, and the wiew to the bay is breathtaking. I absolutely recommend this place to everyone who wants enjoy beautiful Tofo and Mozambique. The land of the good people
Baia is a total gem - it has the comfort and decor of a French villa. The staff are great, really welcoming and made the stay super relaxing. Breakfast was one of my favourite parts of the day - delicious every time and beautiful views. The sun deck was a great place to spend afternoons, the ocean was just a minute away. It's blissful at Baia.
We stayed at Baia Sonambula as the first part of our honeymoon tour of the Indian Ocean...it was mind blowing and such a special start to our trip! Tofo beach itself it stunning and only metres from this amazing guesthouse. Not to mention the incredible wildlife in the area. At Baia Sonambula we were made to feel so welcome and all the staff were helpful, friendly and smiley! Gian and Stephanie and their local team are fantastic hosts and the breakfasts and afternoon cake are delicious! The rooms are very comfortable with lovely little touches such as daily decorative fresh flowers and homemade coconut oil. An amazing place to spend a very special holiday, thank you.
Baia Sonambula is in the tiny Mozambican town of Tofo, only accessible by road (8 hours from Maputo) or air (<1 hour from Maputo). When you get here you're reminded that this is Africa. Many of the roads around town are usable only if you have a 4x4, the market is little more than a shanty town, it's hot & humid, power cuts are frequent, there are snakes, scorpions and yes, mosquitos. This isn't some anodyne, sterilised Caribbean or Med resort and it's all the better for it. If your expectations are any different don't bother coming. I came for the diving and to see Whale shark and Manta ray, and I was not disappointed. On top of that, the beach is stunning, the people lovely and decent food is available in a number of places (try Sumi - Japanese food that wouldn't be out of place in the West End of London and you can watch live 6 Nations rugby!). Baia Sonambula itself is lovely. Set on a hill overlooking the ocean, it takes 2 minutes to get to the beach. It is surrounded by gorgeous flowering trees (pink ones & white ones & red ones etc) and coconut palms. The staff are well trained, attentive and friendly without being obtrusive. The room I stayed in was small but perfect for my needs and had all the facilities I required; including a fan that kept an adequate amount of air moving for it to be bearable and a perfectly functioning mosquito net. On which note, my comments on some of the negative points other reviewers have brought-up: - "there are mossies". It's Africa, get over yourselves. Use protection and the nets. I've been in Mozambique 3 weeks and been bitten 3 times, all on my 1st night. - "no aircon". It's expensive to run and is hugely environmentally unfriendly. - "there's no pool". WTAF! You're 2 minutes from the ocean. - "breakfast is barely adequate". What kind of expectations do you have! This isn't the George Cinq - mind you I've stayed at the George Cinq and breakfast was hugely expensive and not half as good as Baia Sonambula. Breakfast is almost the star of the show, set-up on the terrace overlooking the ocean. Selection of cooked options and also a great buffet. Throughout the day coffee and tea is available (and free). There's a fridge full of soft drinks and alcohol on an honour bar system and lovely cakes are set-out for afternoon tea. All in all I loved my stay at Baia Sonambula and if I come back to Tofo will definitely stay here again.…
We have stayed at many great hotels - big and small - all over the world, but this small guest house is an absolute favorite of ours. The staff is friendly, smiling and relaxed, the breakfast is really nice with a great variety, the location has a fantastic view over the ocean, and the rooms and the structure itself are beautifully made with high end materials. Everything is well thought through, maintained and clean. So beautiful, we will definitely be back!
