We stayed 3 nights and very much appreciated the comfortable and clasy accomodation and the warmth and helpfulness of our hosts. Nothing was too much for them with all requests acted on immediately. Breakasts drinking coffee from bone china and warm croissants and fresh bread - wonderful. The location, just north of Dordogne was perfect for touring in our car.... More

Lavender House has been on the list of "must do" visits because of Cathy and Terry's reputation for providing a wonderful experience. We were not disappointed. We went with friends and we couldn't have been more welcome. From the fireside chats through the excellent dinners to the comfortable rooms and the excellent breakfasts, what more could you want from a... More

Lovely stay at the lavander house. We stayed in the rose suite with our young son. Made to feel very welcome by Katy and terry who made a special effort to accommodate our fussy eater (5 year old son). Do have the evening meal - could not fault it at all it was all delicious and a friendly way to... More

A lovely few days at a beautiful house with a delightful garden back and front and a guest lounge if it got chilly in the evening. Many thanks to Kathy and Terry for their very friendly welcome. We'll definitely be back if we're in the area!

We have just returned from three months in Europe and The Lavender House, and Kathy and Terry have been one of the highlights. The Gallipoli Dawn Service was tops, but for accommodation and meals, Kathy and Terry's Lavender House is definately Number ONE. The comfort of our room was "beyond expectations", the hospitality provided by these two lovely people was... More

This is one of the best places we have ever stayed at, it's poor luxury, spotlessly clean, very stylish and has a lovely atmosphere with very nice friendly hosts, a lot of care has gone in to this place and it's the most comfortable bed ever, breakfast is very nice, couldn't of asked for more, highly recommend Lavender House.....

France was SO COLD in January but our room was wonderfully warm and our hosts (Kathy and Terry) very welcoming. The room was spacious and very comfortable (Mimosa). Big double bed, fantastic cotton sheets (I would not normally notice how luxorious sheets are) and big fluffy towels. We stayed for 2 nights initially. After a good night's sleep, we enjoyed... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lavender House is an English guest house/B&B ideally placed to explore the French departments of the Charente, Haute Vienne and the Dordogne. Situated just 15 minutes along the D13 from the pretty chateau town of La Rochefoucauld (Route Claude Bonnier - N141). Montemboeuf is also within easy reach of Limoges, Bordeaux, Cognac, the French coast at La Rochelle or Royan and the through routes to the Spanish border. Built in 1857, the house has been sympathetically restored by Terry & Kathy Bowen to provide four bedrooms, two double's, a twin and a family room that sleeps 4/5. All with en-suite facilities. The design influence of Laura Ashley is much in evidence throughout! Directly off the large reception hallway is a comfortable, well appointed guest lounge, and a separate traditional dinning room where both breakfast and evening meals are served. Outside the gardens are open for exploration, quiet relaxation, or perhaps afternoon tea served with home made cake! Free WiFi, don't forget to bring your laptop/netbook. Stay for a day, a week or maybe just the weekend, but however long your stay, you will be certain of a warm and friendly welcome in a house that might just be your ideal home from home. If you're wondering where to stay in France, The Lavender House is the answer. Close to the towns of Angouleme, Chabanais, Chalus, Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure, Chassenon, Cherves Chatelars, La Rochefoucauld, L'Arbre, Mansle, Massignac, Mazeroles, Montbron, Mouzon, Rochechouart. Roussines, Rouzede, St Claud, St Junien, Vitrac St Vincent, ideal if you are visiting family or friends. ... more   less
