We visited Isla Palenque at the end of April to celebrate a wedding anniversary (there were also honeymooners, babymooners, and more). The facilities are amazing, the location is stunning, the food is delicious, and the attentiveness of the staff is wonderful. Already thinking about how we make it back again!

Hotel's Favorite
Isla Palenque is truly first rate in every regard. I am writing this review while we are still here, so that is fresh in my mind. The villas are very comfortable and well appointed. In your front yard are two lounge chairs, a large hammock, swinging couch and foot shower. Its about a 50 foot walk to the beach; however, at high tide the water can come up too your lounge chairs. Inside the room is a very comfortable king bed, on a raised level with a view of the ocean. There is well stocked min-fridge and snack box. Both are free except for the alcohol. The AC works great and there are roof fans and a standing fan. There are two nice sized armoires for your clothing. The back deck has an enclosed stall with a toilet, two sinks with large oval mirrors and a shower. Nothing makes me happier when traveling then when you are warned not to turn the shower on hot all the way because it is scorching hot. On the side of the villa is another shower and an old-style bath tub. Rest assured, I have not described all of the features. Everything is completely secluded. All Three meals are included, except for the alcohol (which I appreciate, not being a heavy drinker, I hate subsidizing other guests who are heavy drinkers). There is no limit on the amount of dishes you can order. Lunch and dinner are essentially 4 course meals; appetizer, main dish, sides, and desert. Everything is fresh, healthy and delicious. There are also diverse options that should please every one. There are plenty of activity options, most of which are at no additional cost. For example, yesterday we took a cooking class and today we did a guided kayak tour to the other side of the Island - - both were free. Yesterday, we took a boat ride to a snorkeling area and went to a private Island and was provided a picnic. That excursion was a reasonable $85 per person. Which brings me to my next point, it is truly wonderful to travel to an exclusive resort and not feel like you are being "nickled and dimed to death." It is great to grab a diet Coke and bag of potato chips from your room and not get charged $12 when you check out. Also, for the value, I.P is quite reasonable. We payed about 1k/night. However, they give you the fourth night for free, so that averages about $750/night. The three free meals and mini bar is at least a $150 -200 value per day. So in reality, you are paying about $550-600 per night, which is an absolute steal for such a high-end resort, on a secluded Island that has both a beach and rain forest features. What stands out the most is Patricia and her staff's genuine friendliness and commitment to making your stay as relaxing and memorable as possible. No detail was too small or overlooked. I asked for some extra hangers and when I returned to my room, there were 20 hangers waiting for me. At my first meal, I asked for some limes for the fish and every meal after that, there was a plate of freshly cut limes at the table. During our first dinner, I joked with the waiter that the spicy drink was not that spicy and at every meal since, the table had a ramekin of very spicy sauce. Also, all of the staff that you mainly interact with speak excellent English. Isla Palenque is a perfect romantic getaway and receives my highest recommendation without any reservation.

At one point or another, who hasn't dreamt of a tropical private island getaway ? While many think of turquoise waters and white sands, I must say the Gulf of Chiriqui did not disappoint. Clear waters of perfect temperature with islands rising from their calm surface. Very well designed, the casitas and open air restaurant structure are close, but hidden from view as you stroll "your" luxurious length of beach. (Honestly, we rarely saw other guests except at meal times and one evening we opted for room service.) The casitas are comfortable and the outdoor living areas are outstanding. We particularly loved the swinging 2 person day bed from which we watched monkeys in the trees less than 15 ft. away. You will also enjoy a lovely ocean view from the bed and terrace. The staff and food are all top notch and all will happily go "the extra mile" to accommodate your needs. We choose to have a more private experience and the staff were perceptive and seemed to only magically appear when needed. But, there are many activities and outings offered so that even the more active will be sated. In closing, I will add that the *most* impressive part of an exemplary holiday is that Isla Palenque is truly a brilliant example of self-sustaining tourism. I support and applaud them for their efforts and hope to see more of this thoughtful approach to tourism in the immediate future.

An unforgettable experience! From the exceptional hospitality to the tranquility of the island itself, this trip was everything we could have asked for and more. Everyone on the island was so welcoming and friendly that by the time we left we felt like we had made friends like family. We had a wonderful time exploring the island with the guides as well as on our own while learning about the unique history this peaceful island has to offer. If you're looking to just relax for the day or if you're up for an adventure, this eco resort offers it all from private snorkeling excursions with a picnic on a secluded little beach in the middle of nowhere to reading on a hammock right outside your casita just steps to the beach. The food was amazing since everything is freshly caught that day by local fisherman and/or grown there on the island. Most of the time my husband and I were the only ones around either walking on the beach or resting by the pool so we really felt like we had our own private island. The monkeys are so fun to watch as they travel in groups with the babies tagging along. The casita was the perfect size, well stocked with daily water and snacks and we especially loved the outdoor bathroom area. We felt safe and well taken care of our entire stay. The only con was that I packed way too much so next time I'll be leaving my blowdryer and any shoes except my hiking shoes and flip flops behind! We are already looking forward to our next visit and this time we plan on bringing our 3 children along so we can all share in this wonderful experience!

No words will do it justice. What an incredible place. We learned about Isla Palenque only a week prior to our arrival and lucked out as we were able to stay in one of 8 casitas. Booking process was easy. Airport pick up and boat ride to Island were seamless. Casitas were fantastic with a gorgeous outdoor bathroom - a total wow!, a thought-through bedroom - sofa turns into a super comfortable bed, great outdoor space (porch) - from where we watched monkeys in the trees, private access to the beach. The restaurant and pool area are only a few minutes away, walkable along the beach. Food and drinks were delicious. A 5 star dining experience. Every meal offered a variety of dishes to choose from. Menu changed daily. Every single dish was incredible. Tables for breakfast and lunch were set up in the sand with view over the ocean. Star gazing was spectacular. We had decided to relax, but ended up joining 1 to 2 tours daily. Hiking. SUP. Kayaking. Cooking class. This brings me to the staff. Every single one was fantastic, friendly, with a smile on their face, genuinely caring. Housekeeping did a great job. They serviced the casita while we were at breakfast and/or dinner. Servers were super nice. Flawless service. Guides/Concierge were fantastic. I wish I was remembering the names of everyone. Carla translated the cooking class and made it super fun. Ines amazed with her knowledge of history and Chava with his knowledge of fauna and flora. Loved the fresh coconut. Everything is super well maintained. Traveled this time with my brother but promised my husband to take him, too.

It's remote and takes some effort to get there (we flew from the US, so two planes, 1.25 hrs by car, and then a 15min boat to the island), but it's worth it! The staff was incredible and the place is really beautiful -- a perfect combination of real rainforest and real private beach. The casitas are wonderful and there are so many great activities that are all included in the price. For example, we did a fantastic guided hike in the rainforest and learned all about Rum (yum). The staff is really off the charts amazing. They are there when you want or need them, but at the same time, they are hardly visible. The experience was unique because they set up a WhatsApp group for my wife and I that included the staff when we arrived -- they sent us reminders and if we needed anything, a quick chat and it was done. You can trust the pictures on the site -- they are real and are as fabulous as they look in real life. I would post my own, but they don't look very different! Highly recommended if you want a twist on a traditional beach vacation -- this is real rainforest, real privacy, really great service, really unique, and something you'll always remember.

We just got back from a weeks stay at Isla Palenque. Hard to put into words how special this place really is. First and foremost is the staff. From the ones we saw on a daily basis including Carla, Pedro, David, Francis and Chava. But I also have to point out the rest of the staff that you don't see from housekeeping, kitchen and the maintenance. They truly take pride in their job, the resort and the guests. Their service is impeccable and made this vacation one of a kind. Since we were there a week, it gave us the opportunity to take advantage of all the activities. Amazing island hikes, tide pool exploration, beach picnics, fishing, paddleboards, kayaks, cocktail making, dance and cooking classes. All of which are optional and included in the price, but I definitely recommend. Plenty of time for relaxation. Very easy to get lost in the beauty of the Island surrounded by lush tropical plants while sipping on hand made cocktails and listening to the tide come in. The food was extraordinary. Can't say enough how impressed were were each day with the choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything is fresh and prepared perfectly. You wont go away hungry or disappointed. The chef also made my wife a birthday cake which went above and beyond our expectations. We stayed in casita #1. There are 8 of them all located on the beach and identical. Each one has an entrance through the beach or a path behind them. They are air conditioned, comfortable and very private which we particularly liked. Not to mention the beach is just steps away. This is not a roughing it type of vacation. All the amenities we have come to appreciate combined with an eco friendly and sustainable concept resort. Every review and picture we saw prior to the trip are true. You won't be disappointed.

Isla Palenque is a truly amazing getaway in all senses of the word! We had to keep pinching ourselves to make sure that the experience was real. The setting is heaven on earth, to be able to step out of your luxury casita in the morning and take about 30-40 steps to be on a perfect sandy beach. We loved how the facilities were laid out such that the dock was on the other side of the island. This left the beach area perfectly peaceful without the slightest hint of the outside world. The food was amazing, and the menus were varied throughout our stay. The island was great to explore, a real hiker's paradise. The casitas were very creatively designed, with a unique outdoor bathroom area. Make sure not to miss an afternoon soak in the outdoor tub! Most of all, the staff was so friendly and helpful. They truly made our stay special in every way. Can't wait to go back!

Dear Ira, thanks for this review. We really appreciate the great feedback. And yes, we agree that there is no place better than Isla Palenque to get a break or as you said 'cure' from the Covid fatigue. We are especially thankful for the great comments on service and staff. As part of the Cayuga Collection of Sustainable Luxury Hotels and Lodges, we pride ourselves in service excellence, but of course, always with a very local and human touch. Please come back soon. All the best.

There is nothing like such destination in the world. There is no words to describe such experience other than calling it a dream come true. It goes beyond any expectation. Trust a travel professional who saw many destinations and experienced luxury resorts. The attention to details, respect of privacy, fine design in all sense of the way, coping with the tropical lush landscape. Everything Nature provides on earth to give life a sweet taste, soft senses like this incredible marble lava sand, is here, for you, exclusively. You wanted to live a deserted beach experience? Here it is for you. You can even take a "romantic" tour on another private beach, and it will be set for you with fresh beverages, and all you need to live a magic moment. Patricia the manager and her team are passionate and professionals. All they are focusing on is your comfort and your experience. What can you ask more?
