The lodge is situated close to Nicaraguan border. It has different type of rooms. We enjoyed sitting on the porch with a glass of wine/can of beer and watching the birds flying around (king vulture). Really relaxing. Meals are okay and staff is friendly. Unfortunately the night tour, feeding caymans, shows little respect for animals. It is with good intentions...

Laguna del Lagarto Lodge is located in an absolutely beautiful and truly fascinating setting. You are surrounded with an incredible variety of plant and animal life which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your balcony, the open air dinning room, canoeing through the lagoon or hiking one of many trails through the rain forest. As many other reviewers have...

If you only have one day to spend in Costa Rica, you want to go to Laguna del Lagarto. The lodge is 4 hours from the Juan Santa Maria Airport in Alajuela, but it is the most diverse destination in the country. From the dining room you will be able to photograph three species of toucans, Montezuma Oropendolas, Brown-hooded Parrots,...

The lodge is a long, bumpy drive to but worth it. We went as a group of bird photographers and were very happy with the large variety of beautiful birds that visited the vines and branches that are set up with bananas to attract them. The lodge itself is basic but clean. Wifi only near the lodge office. There is...

Laguna Del Lagarto is indeed a birdwatcher’s delight. Located north of San Jose, part of the lowlands close to the Nicaraguan border. The resort has tons of birds visiting the place all through the day. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. Bathrooms are likewise quite basic but do the job. Food which was served as a buffet given we were...

I stayed for 2 nights and wish I had longer! The focus of my visit was bird photography and my expectations were greatly exceeded. The lodge is beautifully set overlooking a lagoon in a transition zone between agricultural land and tropical forest. They cater to birders and bird photographers with fruit feeders surrounding a covered deck and well-placed perches for...

Birds. Caimans. Howler monkeys. Coatis. Frogs. Flowers. Did I mention birds? Laguna del Lagarto Lodge sits within 15 miles of the Nicaraguan border in northern Costa Rica. Rainforest surrounds the property, which is one of the last refuges for the Green Macaw. Birders will love this place, and I would hope that those interested in REAL ecotourism will, too. LdLL...

It was hard to leave the dining area, because of the continuous traffic of toucans, honeycreepers, aracaris, curassows...all watchable from just a few feet away. Beautiful setting! Location hard to get to in a 2 wheel drive car with low clearance, especially the road up to the lodge itself. We were some of the only people there without huge camera...

I have been to this place 4 times as I enjoy it so much. Accommodation is basic but clean and adequate. Food is a small buffet with no choice, but good quality and very tasty. They will help you if you have dietary restrictions. Staff are very friendly and helpful and speak english. It is a 4 hour drive north...
