This was our 2nd trip to Telunas Private Island so we knew what to expect. Restful, quiet; sleeping over the waves, waking up and laying and bed with views of the ocean just off the end of the bed. Exercise; kayaking and paddle boarding around the island and through the mangrove swamp, swimming in the pool and ocean, playing games with our son. No disruptions from the internet or phones. Friendly, helpful service with good English speakers. Our jobs are hectic, we go for PEACE & REST and as we did 4 years ago, we found that. What we did not expect was the huge upgrade in the quality and quantity of the food. The food is now 5-star. My son tried every entree, and we enjoyed every meal. It was a truly delightful break. We will be back for a 3 time!

Words are not enough to describe the serene beauty of the place and the warm hospitality of the staff, whose smiles we'll never forget. The accommodation in the 15 palafitte villas is extremely comfortable, the king bed is great (being only two we did not try the two individual beds in the mezzanine), and the lack of air conditioning is hardly felt since the fresh air coming from the sea and the cooling fan are more than enough. The food is varied for dinner (choice among three main courses) and there is always a vegetarian option, the buffet breakfast is excellent and the salad bar for lunch a welcome variation. Every day a different activity is planned (unfortunately we missed the visit to a local village that was planned for Sunday morning, our arrival day at lunch time), and for the sports lovers there is canooing and row surfing available. Twice a day a boat is going back and forth between the villas and a beautiful, large beach close to the other, less exclusive, village, something not to be missed. We were very lucky with the weather (four almost sunny days) and enjoyed deeply the sea and the swimming pool. One evening they prepared for us a romantic candlelight dinner, a real treat for our wedding anniversary. All the young staff were extremely courteous and ready to help us in every way we needed, and you realize soon that their participation is not an attitude of circumstance but is really felt. A two cent suggestion by my wife would be to add a full-body mirror in the bedroom. We left a crumb of our heart there... PS. I forgot to mention the SPA facing the open sea, where you can enjoy a relaxing massage at sunset (see picture n.2)

We spent two nights at Telunas with our 2 young kids (6 and 3) at the end of our Christmas vacation visiting extended family in Singapore and Malaysia before heading back to the US. After over 2 weeks of non-stop family commitments and hotel hopping, Telunas was exactly what we needed to end the trip -- 2 days of complete rest and relaxation in paradise. Pretty much everything about our experience was perfect - from the moment we first met the Telunas staff at the Sekupang Ferry Terminal all the way until we were dropped back off at the terminal to return to Singapore, it was obvious that they have carefully thought of every single little detail to make each guest's stay as memorable and worry-free as possible. I won't spoil any of the magic, but suffice to say your time at Telunas is guaranteed to be amazing and if you have any reservations about booking your trip, don't! The island is beautiful (our 3 yo thought we were on Moana's island), the food is delicious (local cuisine for adults, kids menu with crowd pleasers for the little ones), the massages were top notch, the alcohol selection is good and prices very reasonable, our kids loved the kids club and we appreciated the alone time, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, there are plenty of activities to stay occupied and most importantly, the staff and service are top notch. My only regret is not having more time to visit the village and other island. My only minor complaint was the lack of air conditioning in the villas made my sleep not as restful as I would've liked, but this is purely personal preference as both the ceiling fans and ocean breezes are quite strong. If you are anywhere in the vicinity of Telunas, do not miss the opportunity to stay there -- it's the experience of a lifetime!

We visited Telunas Private Island with our two kids aged 3 and 6, and both sets of grandparents. We stayed for 5 nights. The staff are what make this place special. They are authentic, warm, fun loving, hard working and there is something about the team culture that just makes you feel like people genuinely love working there. From the chef to the activities coordinator, the waiters to the receptionists - they all got to know us and our family. We’ve stayed at amazing beach resorts in other places like Hawaii, Tahiti and Fiji but this one felt different and it took us a few days to figure out why. It all clicked when we went on the local village tour to Sugi island, a short boat ride away. This is a village of a few hundred families where kids have to go to central village water stations and carry clean water back to their homes. The Telunas guides explained that Telunas employs 80% of their staff from nearby communities like these, providing much needed employment, training and international exposure to these villages. Telunas has even been helping teach English and is also active in revitalizing some parts of the town where you can see a visible impact on quality of life. Hearing the Telunas folks talk proudly about about their Indonesian heritage and the work the company is doing in the local village, I finally put my finger on what makes this place stand out - it’s the mission of the place to help the local communities that gives everyone from the activities assistant to the chef a sense of purpose. Don’t get me wrong - we went primarily for a vacation... The pool, the kayaking and paddle boarding were all great. I jumped off the pier a few times. The massage at the spa over the water was excellent. The food was customized and cooked to order each day and sooo good. Fishing was a ton of fun. ... but Telunas is truly a special place and it’s the staff and the mission that made it such a memorable life experience.

We continue to visit Telunas because our young children (6, 5, and 2) are so happy here. The older two run around the island like Eloise in the Plaza - they know the staff, play games with them, chat with them, sing with them. They are safe, happy, and have a sense of independence we can't always offer them in a city setting. The little one enjoys the morning in the Kids Club and a breezy afternoon nap in a hammock or in our villa. As a result, the adults get some time to talk without interruptions and read a book or two. Bliss! We'll be back again!
