The hotel is veru good, we took all inclusive pansion in beggining. Also the best restaurant is Mediterian Restaurant Oasis, the vaitors are amazing and food too!!! Rooms are so huge and nice,we had really good holiday.
I stayed in the Club Melia utilising my RCI membership. Lovely room great size and should you want to cook in good facilities within the apartment. I opted for half board and was not disappointed. The service from everyone I dealt with was exceptional, which was perfect when I left my kindle at the pool and it was found and back with me in 20 mins after calling reception I personally preferred the buffet dinner to the restaurants I used but that was my decision. The food is exceptional with so much choice. Activities were there everyday tried the pilates, yoga and paddleboarding. Walked along the seafront into Alcala easy walk from the gardens or the hotel reception. Cannot wait to return and enjoy the pleasure of the hotel and staff
Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds, magnificent pools, spacious rooms, pleasant efficient staff but Italian restaurant poor, drink prices prohibitive, fussy mechanism for booking restaurants, many areas out of bounds unless you have red level access. This is an hotel in which we had holidayed successfully previously when the fussiness of the experience was less evident. The hotel is very busy but we had no issue finding sunbeds or getting served. Breakfast was good, the onsite Italian poor. We didnt try the buffet. Many better local restaurants in Alcala at a percentage of the price. We had a road/ mountain facing room which was a lot more pleasant than it sounds. No sea view, a little street noise but no issue with noise from the entertainment.
There is a lot to like about this hotel but our stay was spoiled by one issue. The hotel building itself is beautiful, the grounds are extensive and well maintained and it is in an ideal location. It is also worth mentioning the staff who are friendly and efficient. The problem for us was noise. The hotel has an open air entertainment area at its centre. Live music is performed there every evening from 6pm until 11pm and for part of the afternoon on weekends. The sound echos around this large open space and up to the bedrooms and balconies surrounding it. It is loud, and inescapable. We found it very frustrating to have a beautiful balcony with a full sea view but limited opportunity to sit there and read a book or have a quiet drink. The hotel is also full of families with very young children. There were easily 50+ under 5's staying and they were very much in evidence in the restaurants, particularly at breakfast, creating an atmosphere more like a 3* family hotel. Other guests, who were returning guests, informed us that the character of the hotel has changed and is not as suitable for older adults as it was previously. …
Lovely location and well kept gardens. However the rooms and their furnishings are now looking a little tired. The room lighting is very dim and the light switches are virtually impossible to use. The bathrooms can be lethal as water escapes from the showers all over the floor - which becomes very slippy. This is not 5 star accomodation. I booked two rooms and had requested they were adjacent. I even emailed the hotel directly three weeks before arrival asking for adjacent rooms. We were not given the rooms and the management said it was impossible to allocate rooms ahead of check in. This is ridiculous - even budget airlines can handle seat requests with notice, why not Melia hotels? When pressed they said they had 100% occupancy ( not true) and that every guest checking in wanted adjacent rooms ( ridiculous argument). The whole check in experience for my last two visits has been a nightmare. It is not welcoming and makes a very bad impression. Also the attempt to get me to convert to semi or full board on check in is a bit pathetic. The non- management staff are good and friendly. I can’t say that for the managers I met which is strange for a service industry. Food and drink at this hotel is ridiculously overpriced and the quality is only average. You are better eating out for dinner and alcohol prices are prohibitive. Breakfast is good - but get there early, say 7:30, as later it is chaotic and the staff are stressed and long lines can form. This review is based on visits across two years with two rooms booked for a total of three weeks per room. Would I come back? Doubtful.…
We have just returned from the Gran Melia after 8 fantastic nights. We were a family of four; two adults and two adult children (18/22) staying in a standard room on an AI basis. This is our third visit over the last 8 months and won't be our last. The hotel is beautiful; well maintained and immaculately clean. Our rooms had been refurbished since we stayed in October last year, so they were fresh and crisp with new seating and much better lighting and toileteries. We visited three A la carte restaurants during our stay; Nami, L'Olio and Oasis which were lovely. Even the fussiest of eaters (my son being one of them) can find something to eat in the buffet restaurant. All the staff are friendly and attentive, a real asset to the hotel with special thanks to Fransisco in the Plaza Bar. Looking forward to returning soon. …
What a wonderful hotel. Amazing pool scene, wow. Nice walks around the hotel, the one along the coastline to the small village is a good way to spend a couple of hours. Nice little cafe overlooking the sea was good for a vino and a coffee. Staff were all great. Cant remember names except for Jacob by the pool bar. Great guy who looked after us daily. Lunch at the Mexican was fantastic and the Italian for an evening meal was perfect. Saying that, the Asian and the main restaurant was also great. Pool waiters were great around the adult only pool. The only negative was the room that we had. Overlooked a car park but to be fair, it has a nice view behind it, The Sea. Our room was in need of a clean when we arrived as there was sand on the tables and floors but the cleaners came over within half an hour and left it spotless. A few things were damaged, the lampshade, toilet roll holder but not enough to lose any sleep over. Dont forget that if you are All Inclusive, you get a free pass into the Spa for a few hours, we looked on TA previously as it wasnt mentioned when we checked in. If you like a great pool scene, great cocktails and good food, BOOK IT TODAY. The evening shows are worth a look as they are very professional. Takes a while to get a drink though as its table service. …
This is the third visit in ten years and yet again it didn’t disappoint. The hotel has aged over time however the cleanliness and decoration are excellent for a large hotel and the gardens and views are just stunning. The food is superb with something for everyone in the Pangea buffet restaurant along with the additional 5 a la carte restaurants. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I must mention Cyntia who I believe started work there when we first visited in 2013!! There is plenty to do and we took a morning body balance class with Arias who was superb. The highlight for me is having a sundowner on the terrace overlooking La Gomera listening to DJ Luis De Leon accompanied by his violinist/ sax player. It is so relaxing, my hubby has to drag me in to dinner !! The entertainment every evening is varied very enjoyable. Finally it would be rude not to mention the ladies in the red dresses who float around ensuring guest are happy. We met Angela on our last do who asked what they could do better. I was stuck for something to say other than a bit more sun on our balcony!! Unfortunately she couldn’t help me with that!! The hotel is located in the edge of the village of Alcala which means a bus or a taxi if you like to wander. When we last visited in 2017 we hired bikes from the hotel sports hub however this was not available this time. We suggested that was something they might do in the future. We would highly recommend this hotel.…
Where to start.. This place is just fantastic. From the staff, to the food, the children's entertainment, the service, the list could go on. This was our first holiday as a family and one we'll never forget. The activities on offer for children were brilliant and my daughter made many friends while she was here. The resort is large enough for couples or holiday makers with no children and you can definitely find a spot for peace and quiet if that is what you're after. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, courteous and more than willing to help with any requests we had. Honestly I could go on all week about this place and still not do it any justice. The best part? Enjoy a drink on their terrace with uninterrupted views of the most beautiful sunset you've ever seen and the saxophone playing in the background. Go and see for yourself. Trust me. …
The staff are unbelievable! They are so friendly and attentive, and everyone is calm and doing an excellent job. Would come back just for the service alone, never mind how stunning the hotel is! We had the best time and a massive thank you to everyone at the Gran Melia. From the room cleaners to Hugo at the desk, the pool concierge, and the waitors around the hotel, you are all amazing, and we'll definitely be back!
