Just returned from my third trip to this resort and it is still just as good as the first time I went in 2015. If you like peaceful/relaxing holidays, I cannot recommend it enough. It is as good as they say. It's hard to know where to begin! The resort is in the sleepy town of Acala in the south of the island. It's a comfortable 20-30 minutes in a taxi from the airport - costs about 60-80 EUR each way (writing in July 2023). The infrastructure in Spain is generally excellent so the licensed taxis are modern, clean, mostly air conditioned and many seem to take credit card. Motorway most of the way too. Arriving at the Red Level reception, it's the experience you'd expect. Your bags are carried for you and taken to your room straight away. You are offered a free drink and the check in is friendly, quick and mostly centers around where things are, what time the gym opens and what restaurants are where. It's also in English if you want it, no problems. - No bracelets needed to "prove who you are" - No hard upselling of upgrades or excursions Other resorts, take note! The rooms we've stayed in over the three years have always been good and this time was no exception. We had a room overlooking the red level pool (which is exclusive for red level guests and adults only.... amazing), with a little courtyard at the back with a hot tub. My only complaint this time was being put in a room with two beds pushed together, rather than one king bed. But... didn't ruin the holiday. The hotel complex is quite large and sprawling and it's easy to get lost if you go wandering a lot. However, the grounds are absolutely beautiful (palm trees, beautiful gardens, waterfalls...it's like being in paradise) such that it's almost nice to get lost walking among it all. It's clean, well kept, no litter or problems. I didn't see any cockroaches or mice etc. The only thing you will see are some friendly mini lizards who live in the rock walls and grounds around the plants. They are fascinating and you can spend time just watching them. The hotel should be very proud of it's maintenance, it must be hardwork to stay at this level. The red level area is slightly segregated from the rest of the hotel but you are free to go where you like and use all the pools (including the gigantic one which runs the the full length of the hotel, it's amazing). There are a variety of restaurants on site and all the ones I've been too were nice. This includes the buffet. Yes, sometimes you have to wait a bit to get seated but red level guests get prioritised and once in, I found the food just fine. Breakfast for red level guests is either in the buffet or, you can go to the private red level area at the outdoor restaurant. I'd recommend it, its a lovely experience. You overlook the sea, partially outdoors and on several days there was a live musician entertaining guests with relaxing music. The staff are generally absolutely excellent. Plentiful, super friendly and pretty much all speak English. Again, other resorts can learn a lot here. I'd suggest that this hotel is excellent for those who like to relax and do very little. IE, ME! Everything is on site and everything is very relaxing. It's brilliant for couples. You can totally lose track of time and space here. However, if you do want to venture out a bit this is possible too. Theres a car rental desk on site (used to be Avis, not sure now) if you want to rent a car to go to somewhere like Mt Tiede (we went in 2016, it is a nice trip). Theres also a nice walk along the beach front/sea you can take which will lead you all the way to the more touristy town of La Arena just up the coast. The walk took us about 40 minutes (we took a taxi back). It was very hot and tiring walk but the views were lovely. La Arena is a bit like a tourist sea side town and has a popular dark sandy beach. Acala itself is very quiet and quite small but does have a few nice restaurants and shops. I don't know about the rest of Tenerife but this part seems extremely safe and relaxed. You won't have to deal with push sales people trying to sell you tours or coconuts on the beach. In summary, I cannot recommend this place enough. The red level is expensive but it's worth it. If you want a relaxing, sun soaked holiday, this is the place for it. I genuinely believe, when I die, if I have lived a good life, I'll be sent to live here in one of the villas for eternity. Yes, it's that good. But until then, I'll be saving up so I can go again in the next two years! …
