Travelers' Choice
Magnificent Oceanfront hotel for guests as of 16 years, with spectacular views of the island La Gomera. RedLevel at Gran Melia Palacio de Isora is perfectly integrated in the South west coast of Tenerife, in the fishing village Alcala. A beautiful unspoiled area at the foot of Mount Teide, five minutes by car from the Los Gigantes cliffs. While its glorious design combines to perfection the elements sea, earth and air, the hotel sets new standards for luxury, in order to satisfy the most demanding travellers searching for a truly unforgettable experience.

This is a beautiful hotel with exceptionally helpful, friendly staff. They really couldn’t do enough for you and I wish I could personally name them all. The grounds are stunning and spotlessly clean. We opted for bed and breakfast and there were lots of little extras that we didn’t know about until we arrived. Such as a free bar with lots of snacks between 5 and 6 every day in the bistro. Also in the red level reception area you could help yourself to as much tea, coffee, soft drinks, water and little snacks as you wanted throughout the day. We also got 50% of the water ritual in the Clarins spa which was a real treat. The food in the restaurants was delicious, though a little pricey as you would expect in a 5 star hotel. The drinks were also a little pricey, again we expected this so not really an issue for us. We didn’t have any issues getting booked in to restaurants, the staff in reception were happy to book for us, though it is probably best to give a couple of days notice. Not all of the restaurants are open at any one time. We were a little disappointed with the Pangea buffet restaurant. Whilst there is a huge selection of food. It was a set price of €48 per person not including drinks. If you are not a big eater you really don’t get value for money. Also, the restaurant is so big, by the time you have walked round, the food on your plate has gone cold. Breakfast in the Bistro area was amazing with spectacular views. Food at the pool bar is great value for money it was really lovely and very generous portions. Evening entertainment was pretty good too. The bar staff worked extremely hard and were very friendly. No problems getting served. My only suggestion would be to have another bar open in the evening as there is only the one place to go after your meal (there is another bar that opens at 11.30 in the evening, but we are almost ready for bed by then). The pool bar next to the Oasis restaurant would be a perfect place to sit and enjoy a drink in the evening but that closes in the evening. There is a beautiful courtyard (where the evening entertainment is) leading on to a large terrace but this is just wasted during the day. It would be a lovey place to sit and chill during the day time but the bar is only open in the evening which is a shame. Overall we had a lovely holiday - almost perfect

We are truly lucky enough to have visited this wonderful hotel 16 times previous to our trip in July and yet I am still in awe of this little piece of paradise... the views, the endless sea vista, the sunsets, the sunrise walks along the sea front, breakfast gazing at the Atlantic and listening to the crash of the waves is special as is the food and choice offered as your day unfolds....the food in all the restaurants never disappoints especially at our particular favourites Nami and Ocean Grill. This is a very special hotel, wonderfully designed and maintained to the most exacting standards with an aura of calm and serenity that can only be created by the real gift of RedLevel which is the staff, all the staff from the Reception Team headed by the very lovely Vero to the cleaners, I could mention every member of staff because they are all wonderful and caring and this special team takes Red Level from 5*plus to.....paradise. I miss Red Level when we leave and I still get flutters when I confirm a booking Thank you Red Level, we look forward to seeing you very soon !

We visited Red Level at Gran Melia Palacio de Isora about 15 years ago for the first time. We loved it so much we came about 6 times over the next year and it was great. This year we thought we would revisit. Terrible!!!!!!!!!!! They have now made so many more rooms Red Level that it is now just like the rest of the hotel. Nothing exclusive there at all. The Open Bar down in the garden is awful. The food is awful, the drinks are cheap and it is so full as Red Level is so large. The whole experience was awful. Will not be returning. Don’t think the Red Level premium you pay is worth it. The rooms are the same as rest of hotel, and as I have said the open bar package is use plain awful. The only plus is that the staff we met in Red Level were friendly, professional and helpful at all times.

Good sides: The hotel's ocean front location is amazing. Walking or jogging by the ocean in a context of tranquility, away from the noise of the city is incomparable. The sunset view is spectacular. Stunning architecture of the resort with beautiful gardens. There are beaches near the hotel with comfy access for swimming/snorkling. The Red Level staff was very kind and professional. Excellent seaview breakfast and aperitif. Our room was spacious and well decorated. Negative sides: the hotel is showing signs of time, especially in the rooms; it would definitively deserve a renovation in some parts; not our first time in this resort but we did not find the same level of services compared to August 2017. In general, you expect more from a 5-star hotel of that level. We returned to this resort for the quiet red level garden area with a stunning view on the ocean. Unfortunately the garden this year was abandoned. There was no staff to assist us with sunbeds/umbrellas. The garden bar was open just from 5 to 6pm. Sunbeds were dirty, battered white mattresses of the fixed sunbeds, torn and dirty bali curtains, some wicker furniture were ruined and remained dirty for days with layers of dust and various stains. Some sun umbrellas were broken. Garbage bin in the garden was always full. I had to report it to the reception (which fortunately is very responsive) to empty it. The glass fence in some areas has been soiled by bird droppings for days. One of the two jacuzzi was out of order. There is quite no control over who can access the red level area. We had a jacuzzi on the balcony of our room, unfortunately it leaked. Numerous interventions did not solve the problem. The hotel staff was kind to offer us a bottle of wine and late check out as compensation but we didn't use the jacuzzi for several days. The quality/price ratio is low. Food suggestion: fish dishes with less ingredients and less sauces and an international wine list should be introduced into the menu.

Our club in London organised a Tennis and Padel Holiday in Tenerif last year and we stayed in the hotel. It was supreme, absolutely spectacular facilitates and the restaurants were top notch! We spent most of the day playing tennis. The sports facilities are fantastic and Liam helped us in getting everything booked, he was the most helpful! The sports team was brilliant, always ready to help and give us water at the hotest hours. Saloua welcomes us every morning with the best smile. After tennis we enjoyed the best pool in EUROPE! We are coming back in a month and we will continue coming back! Nothing negative about this place

Just returned from my third trip to this resort and it is still just as good as the first time I went in 2015. If you like peaceful/relaxing holidays, I cannot recommend it enough. It is as good as they say. It's hard to know where to begin! The resort is in the sleepy town of Acala in the south of the island. It's a comfortable 20-30 minutes in a taxi from the airport - costs about 60-80 EUR each way (writing in July 2023). The infrastructure in Spain is generally excellent so the licensed taxis are modern, clean, mostly air conditioned and many seem to take credit card. Motorway most of the way too. Arriving at the Red Level reception, it's the experience you'd expect. Your bags are carried for you and taken to your room straight away. You are offered a free drink and the check in is friendly, quick and mostly centers around where things are, what time the gym opens and what restaurants are where. It's also in English if you want it, no problems. - No bracelets needed to "prove who you are" - No hard upselling of upgrades or excursions Other resorts, take note! The rooms we've stayed in over the three years have always been good and this time was no exception. We had a room overlooking the red level pool (which is exclusive for red level guests and adults only.... amazing), with a little courtyard at the back with a hot tub. My only complaint this time was being put in a room with two beds pushed together, rather than one king bed. But... didn't ruin the holiday. The hotel complex is quite large and sprawling and it's easy to get lost if you go wandering a lot. However, the grounds are absolutely beautiful (palm trees, beautiful gardens, waterfalls...it's like being in paradise) such that it's almost nice to get lost walking among it all. It's clean, well kept, no litter or problems. I didn't see any cockroaches or mice etc. The only thing you will see are some friendly mini lizards who live in the rock walls and grounds around the plants. They are fascinating and you can spend time just watching them. The hotel should be very proud of it's maintenance, it must be hardwork to stay at this level. The red level area is slightly segregated from the rest of the hotel but you are free to go where you like and use all the pools (including the gigantic one which runs the the full length of the hotel, it's amazing). There are a variety of restaurants on site and all the ones I've been too were nice. This includes the buffet. Yes, sometimes you have to wait a bit to get seated but red level guests get prioritised and once in, I found the food just fine. Breakfast for red level guests is either in the buffet or, you can go to the private red level area at the outdoor restaurant. I'd recommend it, its a lovely experience. You overlook the sea, partially outdoors and on several days there was a live musician entertaining guests with relaxing music. The staff are generally absolutely excellent. Plentiful, super friendly and pretty much all speak English. Again, other resorts can learn a lot here. I'd suggest that this hotel is excellent for those who like to relax and do very little. IE, ME! Everything is on site and everything is very relaxing. It's brilliant for couples. You can totally lose track of time and space here. However, if you do want to venture out a bit this is possible too. Theres a car rental desk on site (used to be Avis, not sure now) if you want to rent a car to go to somewhere like Mt Tiede (we went in 2016, it is a nice trip). Theres also a nice walk along the beach front/sea you can take which will lead you all the way to the more touristy town of La Arena just up the coast. The walk took us about 40 minutes (we took a taxi back). It was very hot and tiring walk but the views were lovely. La Arena is a bit like a tourist sea side town and has a popular dark sandy beach. Acala itself is very quiet and quite small but does have a few nice restaurants and shops. I don't know about the rest of Tenerife but this part seems extremely safe and relaxed. You won't have to deal with push sales people trying to sell you tours or coconuts on the beach. In summary, I cannot recommend this place enough. The red level is expensive but it's worth it. If you want a relaxing, sun soaked holiday, this is the place for it. I genuinely believe, when I die, if I have lived a good life, I'll be sent to live here in one of the villas for eternity. Yes, it's that good. But until then, I'll be saving up so I can go again in the next two years!

Once again our home from home where we have visited every year for the past fifteen years. The red level is absolutely amazing and has the most fabulous terrace and French bistro restaurants within the red level for adults only. Once again we stayed in a beach front villa which has fabulous amenities along with your own garden, pool, water feature, raised terrace with sea views, private outdoor shower, Bali bed and hammock. Everything you could possibly want for the most relaxing holiday. The all inclusive is certainly worth while and covers all of the restaurants where wine and local beer is included. All of the bars in the hotel are fully included with all main drinks available including main stream cocktails and spirits. This is certainly a fabulous new feature and you would regret not taking it up. The most important feature of this hotel is certainly its loyal staff. They cant do enough for you and nothing is a chore. We met many of them again this year and there are a few who deserve a separate mention Jose is the Red Level and has looked after us all of the time we have been going. He is one of the reasons that we keep returning every year. He is so professional and believes in the Gran Melia Red Level brand. He is excellent with all of the customers and is certainly a major part of the team. It would not be the same without him and we are not the only guests who feel this. Mohammed is sunshine on legs! He makes you laugh so much and his smile and laughter are infectious! Never a dull moment when he is around and he carries out his role with professionalism and enjoyment. This year we met Nadia in the main hotel cocktail bar. She is an absolute delight and always has a smile and chat with you. She works very hard and is a fabulous addition to the hard working Cocktail Team! David does the best cocktails along with Alajandro. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year. Peter manages some of the restaurants and is a pleasure to be around. He works with a strong team including Saray who has looked after us so well for breakfasts and lunch along with Erika. We met a new member of the team called Daniel and he was working in the red level for breakfast and Oasis at lunch time. He is very young but is so polite, professional and eager to learn. He is a fabulous addition and will learn so much from working in this hotel group. Wish him every success. Other staff who deserve to be mentioned are Francisco, Lucas, Jessica, Alahandra, Yamelin and fabulous Reberta. all of the names mentioned went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect. In particular the manager at the Mexican restaurant who has been there as long as we can remember and he always works hard and is so polite and gracious. I know this review is very detailed particularly about the staff but I feel it was important that they were mentioned. The hotel and rooms speak for themselves as they are amazing and with the best swimming pools in the resort compared to any other hotels that we have visited. The thing that Gran Melia does best is its training of the staff to such high standards and they are all immaculately turned out at all times as well of being proud of their work they are so loyal to the brand and they enjoy working there. They are the main reason we return year after year and will continue to do so. Thank you to you all! Lady Julie Forster White

Had a very nice relaxing stay overall as Red Level adult only guests for 1 week. Note though that it is a resort type hotel primarily geared for All Inclusive (AI) type stays (imo) and heavily focused on family holidays. If you are not AI and want to venture outside the hotel there a few nice restaurants to try nearby but otherwise it is a captive market. Our Red Level room was perfectly fine but was in a block amongst family groups and thus we were disturbed by young children at times. The Red Level lounge has limited snacks and soft drinks etc available and also an open bar with tapas for 1 hour each day. Tapas were varied each day and quality very good. Red Level breakfast was available in a separate area to the main buffet restaurant but was more limited in choice as a result. Again, quality was good. Pros Fantastic swimming pools - the Red Level adult only pool was large and never felt over crowded and there was always quite a few sun loungers free. The main resort pool is simply enormous and even with all the families staying never got overcrowded. Entertainment at night was varied each night during our stay and catered for all ages. Gardens and grounds are pretty and very well maintained Nice friendly & helpful staff - particularly Jose in Red Level & Jacob at the tiki bar were excellent. Had a very nice meal in the Nami Asian Bistro restaurant. Cons Pangea Food Market restaurant, whilst providing plenty of quantity, lacked any 5 star quality and was very overpriced (if you had to pay) for what it produced and the service provided. Not value for money or recommended unless All Inclusive as there are better around to eat at.
