This place doesn't look much outside on a dark, cold winter's night. Step through the doors and it is warm, welcoming and plush. Very warm dog friendly service from the start. A lovely welcome. Excellent large portions of food from a very varied menu and several great specials. Three brilliant beers. One of the best pubs I have visited this... More

We were staying in the area with our daughter, her partner and two dogs and after a long wet and muddy walk, it was a treat to receive such a wonderful warm welcome at the Black Swan. The service was great - especially Ben who is both exceptionally professional and really helpful. The menu is varied and reasonably priced and... More

Have just returned from a family weekend to experience the Winter Drovers festival in Penrith. Stayed at the Black Swan for two nights - can't recommend it highly enough. Brilliant location. The accommodation is wonderful and the hosts, Jackie and Steve, are extremely welcoming. The breakfast is wonderful! Would definitely stay here again.

We recently stayed here for one night. This was originally booked as a half way stopover point for a planned work trip to Scotland. In the end the work was cancelled, but we decided to visit anyway and spend some time in the Lakes. The hotel is under new management and all of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.... If you are fed up with the A66 and have time on your hands take a diversion to Culgaith and visit the Black Swan. The new owners Jackie and Steven will give you a hearty welcome in a luxury pub atmosphere. You will be able to take your time over an excellent reasonably priced lunch and/or dinner. Our party of... Went here for our anniversary. Food was fantastic as was the service. The surroundings are informal and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. There is a good choice of real ales behind the bar and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

A good class of room in an old building. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom nice and clean. The evening meal was good and reasonably priced and breakfast was of a very good standard. Can't fault this hotel at all.

We have been traveling with a tour group in the Borders area - England & Scotland. Meals on the tour have been very good - restaurants were carefully chosen. The Black Swan was no exception - this was the BEST salmon we've had on this vacation - beautifully prepared, lovely subtle sauce, well presented. The vegetables (esp. small potatoes) were... More
