Perfectly placed for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian's Wall and the north Lakes, this old inn offers a warm welcome, friendly service, comfy rooms and an excellent chef. I recommend the haunch of venison that was served with four vegetables and two sorts of potatoes and was extremely tasty and very filling.

This place doesn't look much outside on a dark, cold winter's night. Step through the doors and it is warm, welcoming and plush. Very warm dog friendly service from the start. A lovely welcome. Excellent large portions of food from a very varied menu and several great specials. Three brilliant beers. One of the best pubs I have visited this...

The service was great - especially Ben who is both exceptionally professional and really helpful. The menu is varied and reasonably priced and...

We recently stayed here for one night. This was originally booked as a half way stopover point for a planned work trip to Scotland. In the end the work was cancelled, but we decided to visit anyway and spend some time in the Lakes. The hotel is under new management and all of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly....

Went here for our anniversary. Food was fantastic as was the service. The surroundings are informal and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. There is a good choice of real ales behind the bar and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

A good class of room in an old building. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom nice and clean. The evening meal was good and reasonably priced and breakfast was of a very good standard. Can't fault this hotel at all.
