John, Toos and their sons were wonderful hosts, and gave my young family a most memorable stay at their lovely home and farm. The meals were one of the many highlights of our stay. Truly fantastic hosts.
John, Toos and their sons welcomed my family and I so warmly into their beautiful family homestead. As has been the case in other reviews - our experience was very much authentic and delivered in a very appropriate 'down to earth' manner. Thank you for tailoring our visit to our needs and contributing so much to an enriching experience for my young family.
Best farmstay ever!! Beautiful farmhouse with spacious rooms and excellent amenities. Terrific meals with amazing hosts, John and Toos Cousins. They took me to help with weighting the heifers to check their progress. I was able to help with getting the cattle though the yards to the weigh machine and out again. Terrific to be up close and involved. Glad they had gumboots to fit me! Also helped move temporary fencing to give the heifers new feed. The farm is situated in beautiful green rolling hills.
John and Toos welcomed my husband and me into their home and into their world of generational sheep and cattle farming. This is a family farm that has been in existence for over 150 years. John took us around the farm on his four wheeler (along with his very smart working herd dogs), so that we could participate as he cared for the cattle and sheep over the thousands of acres that make up their farmland. This land is extraordinary beautiful!!! His wife Toos made a lovely dinner and breakfast. We very much enjoyed our evening chat with them both by a wood fire as they shared their joys and challenges in keeping the farm moving ahead into the future. Maybe it was the beautiful character of the two of them working hard together to pass on this legacy, or their openness in sharing their lives while caring for us during our visit, but they touched us both. Do not miss this unique experience if you get the opportunity. It was the highlight of our New Zealand trip!…
Ariving at Hiamoe was like good friends were waiting for us at the frontdoor of their lovely classic home: John and Toos welcoming us in such a friendly way. Soon after we arrived we were given helmets and were taken by John on a tour over the hills, where we got an idea how big this farm was. We were very impressed. Since we had travelling in common, there was lots to talk about, specially when it occurred that there was even more in common:The Netherlands and Mismar haNegev! All the conversations were decorated by a lovely and delicious meal at their big old kitchen table. It was only one night we stayed, but it should have been a whole week just to feel and be part of real farm life. We surely will come back and stay more than 1 night!
