This is an astonishing place, an 18th century palace castle with a phenomenally good view over Piemonte. Worth visiting for the chandeliers alone. Food good, service charming throughout, room comfortable although bathroom is a little challenging for older eyes. Needs better lighting in the bathrooms. The air-conditioning was either very much on or very much off very difficult to control. It is a pity that they do not use their very grand rooms on the piano nobile except for breakfast because they are stunning and better lit than the undercroft. Overall, a memorable visit, prices are fitting for such a location and service
This magnificent hotel is like staying in your own 17th century palace. We have been lucky enough to have stayed in some amazing hotels over the years but this one could be the best ever. Perched right on top of the hill, inside the tiny village, the views are simply divine 360 degrees looking over the hills and valleys of the Piedmont area from the rooms and gardens, its mesmerizing. The building itself is an amazingly kept and restored palace. It has only a few rooms for lucky guests which are superb. Ours felt like we were staying in Buckingham palace. Together with a modern TV ,great aircon and a fabulous en suite marble bathroom, it was bliss. The staff share their passion and the knowledge of the building with the guests and it shows. The pool and spa, accessed through a 150m long underground tunnel also has to be seen to be believed. The restaurant is another fantastic Michelin like experience with fine dining in a garden setting or in the beautiful dining room. All based on local produce with matching local wines if you want. Wine service can be slow fyi. Please put this one on your bucket list you will not regret it…
A wonderful experience in a very unique setting. Fine dining with local products, very efficient and kind service. Peaceful environment with exceptional views and decor. Highly attentive personnel. What do you want more ? Definitively worth a visit!
My husband and I stayed here in mid-May. Beautifully restored in an awesome location. Our suite was large with a comfortable king bed, but other furniture ( chairs in particular) need to be updated! Very uncomfortable. Air conditioning in the public rooms was not working and although they said room ac was working, it never got cool enough which made for uncomfortable nights. . Not enough staff. Those there tried to be accommodating, but were seriously overworked. Breakfast was late being set up on our second morning and fruit was canned - unacceptable. At the time of our stay, this beautiful property was not running up to Relais standards. A real shame considering what a stay here could be!
Operated by Chateau & Relais, this hotel previously belonged to a Piemontese Count and it was the favorite of his 40 other homes. The position of the hotel offers stunning views in all directions and is, itself, beautiful from the outside. The hotel is a UNESCO heritage site and dates back to the 17th century. The hotel has been well-remodled, though a portion of the property is being re-done as a historical museum of noble life in the 17th and 18th centuries. The rooms are furnished in a combination of Old World and New World opulence, though the age of the building does show through. The staff is of particular note - they are the most attentive and accommodating staff I have ever been served by and we are already making plans to return solely based on those interactions. The Castle features two different restaurants and a full-service spa. There are parts of the Castle - such as the uniquely-lit corridors that take you to and from dinner and the spa that are hard to describe properly but make for a wondrous experience. Great base to operate from if touring the Piemonte region…
This is an absolutely amazing and wonderful place. Perched atop a hillside, the grounds are beautiful with superb views of the Piedmont scenery. But even better, the castle itself is incredible – beautifully restored in every way. Our room was spacious with a private outdoor area and fabulous bathroom. The service is outstanding, including an amazing breakfast buffet. The restaurant is of Michelin quality. Certainly not cheap, but worth every penny.
1st time at this hotel, but many times in this area. This hotel is the finest by far. Rooms are uniquely decorated and very comfortable. Service is great - when we arrived after a 4 hour drive we asked if we could have a drink outside and they brought a tablecloth and a bucket of bubbly and appetizers ! Dinner was delightful - we had the surprise tasting menu and it was delicious. Breakfast was pretty standard fare, surprised and disappointed that eggs were extra cost (this is a $500+/night hotel, after all). We were also charged for bottled water. Hence, only 4 stars.
Located on top of a hill overlooking beautiful Alba area. Great welcome and the surroundings are beautiful. Rooms are nicely decorated and share the value of being on a Casstle. Very clean rooms with lots of amenities and good quality throughout the details. But we did have two incidents that felt this stay to not uphold the expectations to the Relais & Chateaux group. Firstly we asked the person at the pool area if he could arrange with the reception to make a reservation at a nearby place for the evening and he took notes of this. We never had any feedback and when we came down some hours later for going out for dinner the receptionist never have had this information and made any reservations. So noW this place was fully booked. And in stead we had to arrange our own driving to a nearby restaurant, which we had hoped to avoid. Sane receptionist help us getting a list for in room breakfast arrangements and we did fill this out at handed it personally to the receptionist that evening. Next morning we never had the breakfast delivered as expected and again this is just poor service for the second time during our stay. No one would take the blame and no one seemed to care of these mishaps, so left with a feeling that this hotel was more into looking good, but not as much helping or proactive in the guest request or needs.…
From the moment we arrived until we left, our stay was amazing. We travelled as a family with our dog also, upon arrival everything was perfect, with special treats left for us and our dog in the very beautiful room. Tranquil Spa with and swimming pool with a very special entrance. We had dinner both nights, a delicious menu, with many small extras plates in addition to our order, also a very special breakfast, amazing fresh ingredients. Most importantly, the service was exceptional. Definitely visit when you can.
Staying 4 nights in this hotel was like stepping back in time a couple of centuries, but with all the latest improvements and comforts of a Five Star hotel. The owner spent millions converting and upgrading a castle without losing any of the original character. There are only some 15 rooms in the hotel and the amazing staff makes you feel like a real guest rather than just one of a dozens of room numbers. The remodeling included a new spa with all the possible amenities including a outside terrace with sweeping views over the countryside (see photo from room). There are two restaurants in the hotel (we enjoyed the more casual one twice) several small charming towns with restaurants within 10 minutes drive and Alba, a larger town is also very close with a great shopping street. The grounds are surrounding views are just magical. We are going back the end of 2021.…
