Panviman, situated high in the hills of Mae Rim, close to the city of Chiang Mai, certainly met our expectations and needs perfectly. We found the staff warm and friendly, the accommodation comfortable and spacious and the breakfasts and dinners very good. The resort is large but has a real zen-like ambience. It is peaceful and tranquil. It offers a spa, a number of swimming pools (including a large jacuzzi) and a gym. Good for hikers too. The only issue I personally had, was that there was a lack of hand rails or bannisters when negotiating the many, and steep, steps in the main section of the hotel and our accommodation block. Having a torn meniscus, this posed a slight problem. However, the very useful buggy assisted in ferrying us perfectly from point to point on the estate.

Dear Khun Kathryn, Sawasdee Krub……Greetings from Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort – Heaven Alike! Firstly, please accept our sincerest thanks for sharing a wonderful review about your stayed at our resort last week. We are so pleased to know that services of our polite and friendly staff could meet and exceed your holiday expectation. Started with warm welcome with warm heart from our friendly and attentive staff followed by staying in a comfortable and specious room. Then start your fresh morning with tasteful breakfast. We are fully aware that breakfast is one of most import factors for all of our beloved guests to start their fantastic day with us, so plenty and quality dishes are provided to suite all. After enjoying breakfast, many of our guests enjoy walking around the resort, enjoy beautiful fruit and flower gardens – our Meditation Cave is also recommend. Thus, your words saying Zen-like Ambience is really a right word to describe our resort ground. We wish add that we are very lucky to find this perfect location…..a peaceful location for self-healing. We also wish to thank you for your kind thoughts to mention about our stunning 2-Tier Swimming Pool and it heated jacuzzi pool. Certainly, your feedback about handrails has been shared with concern team for improvement. Thank you once again for choosing our resort as your holiday destination, and taking your valuable time to share a great review. We do hope that you will be back to visit us again, and stay for a week or more! Warm regards, Panja Nakapong General Manager

We had a short stay here only only night on our return trip from Pai. We are very pleased with our choice, mainly chosen to avoid going in to ChiangMai proper as this was the night of Loy Krathong. Definitely worth going back, the resort is beautiful, and service all smiles. We had a well appointed high mountain deluxe room with a lovely view. Food at the restaurant also was excellent.

We had a truly outstanding stay at the Panviman Chiangmai. The resort is magnificent, with beautiful grounds, a lovely lobby/bar area and a first rate spa. We dined each night overlooking the valley below. We had mostly local Thai specialties- and everything was fresh, hot and well prepared and presented. Each dish had flowers and other beautiful accompaniments. Breakfast overlooking the sunrise is not to be missed- nor are the great omelettes and local teas that change daily. Lemongrass, ginger and others were a great way to begin the day. The staff, lead by the lovely General Manager Mr. Panja and Food and Beverage manager Mr. Chai made us feel like very honoured guests. The staff- housekeeping, front desk and restaurant are all polite and efficient, and most have been employed from the local village. We will 100% be returning.

Lovely location with great views from the mountain villas. Definitely a couples place rather than for solo travellers as quite isolated and nothing much in the surrounding area. My villa was excellent with great views of forest and mountains, although at the top of a steep hill so calling the hotel buggy was required to get around. The spa was outdoor and in a nice setting, which was ok when I was there at 25 degrees but might be unpleasant if it is hotter weather. It was also next to the road which was noisy when trying to relax with a foot massage. Good food and really great customer service, friendly and efficient. I would go again.

Clean Welcoming Beautiful scenery Much on offer. Friendly Helpful Amazing This hotel is a beautiful place to stay! However it is miles from Chiang Mai itself so you will need transport. There is lots to see and do on the huge site. Lovely children's play area, gym, seating, swimming pools etc. However it is all climbing. So you need to be fit and able to muster the stairs and hills. Although there is transport provided up and down from Rooms. Apartments etc in the form of golf buggy and 4x4 for baggage you still have an abundance of steps! Beds are ultra comfortable and the rooms are huge! With a lovely balcony and seating. Food on an evening is more expensive but wow. The quality and amount is amazing. However the breakfast are very good mostly buffet, with Scrabble/fried/poached eggs available along with omelette. The choice is a bit boring after a few days. Would recommend a visit to relax in This amazing hotel. Where nothing seems to be too much effort It must be said the swimming pools are amazing but the water was very cold. However it is only February. The jacuzzi/spa however was kept at a beautiful 37 and lovely

The location is really quiet and breathtaking. If you love jungle and quietness, this may be one of the best selection. After 3 years pandemic, we decided to find somewhere nothing like Hong Kong, busy and stressful environment. And we found this hotel! The staff are very helpful and cheerful. Food for room service is also very cheap. The only drawback is really far. Some Grab drivers declined to take us there.

Panviman was such an intriguing conundrum of a resort. It was certainly built to be a full-function resort where you could get away from the city and enjoy an oasis in the mountains, and much of the design and operation makes that obvious. It covers the entire side of a hill in Mae Rim, with one of the most elaborate pool terraces we've ever seen, going down to the immense spa area surrounding ponds below, meditation cave in between. We walked up and down the paths each day just because it was so beautiful and tranquil. But there are so many additional spots along the way where they built rooms, patios, seating areas... as if there was going to be more use from these areas... but they seemed empty, abandoned for the season or bc of COVID- or the guests just never came like they originally thought. Example, the BEAUTIFUL multi-pool area has a "restaurant/cafe" building as if they expected to have lots of guests at the pool and were ready to have food service nearby. But guests never seem to really come to the pool (the water was just too cold, and its on the shady side of the hill and in the Chiang Mai mountains, it doesn't get hot enough for much of the year to enjoy a cold pool). So the restaurant/cafe they built adjacent sits empty of guests and therefore staff also. The upper half of the resort is the same... going up hill from the lobby/restaurant you pass pool villas, then spa / steam villas (only 1201 jacuzzi villa has an nice sun-facing view... all other spa / steam villas look straight into the trees. Confusing. Continuing uphill, you get to several generic buildings with the default hotel rooms (Mountain room block seems to have a good view). Then further up the hill (WAY up) are the layers of star domes. These were added just a year ago, there must by 7 or 8 now, each one improving on the last one. We stayed in a pool villa and switched at the end to a star dome. The pool villa looks amazing in the pictures, and is indeed a spacious room with a lovely bathroom (shower / separate tub were excellent). But the villa and pool are in the shade for almost the entire day, so the unheated pool is just too cold to go in. Maybe in the hottest season there is more sun and the pool is a more attractive feature, but we ended up just enjoying the look, but getting under the covers by 7pm as the mountain chill descended. After calculated research, we had requested pool villa 1102 or 1101 (first two options coming from the lobby that we concluded from pictures might have a partial view of some of the valley) in our reservation a year in advance. Disappointed to arrive and be given 1104, which as we feared, was in the shade and had a view into the trees nearby. As it turns out, with the pool villas on the side of the mountain facing another hill, the view from 1101 or 1102 wouldn't have been so impressive anyway. Star dome we switched to later was amazing, with a great position at the top of the mountain- so we got our view (view from the restaurant is also fantastic btw) in the end. Our particular dome 8602 was at the top level, but under a big tree... so looking up (where the stars are) the view is mostly blocked- again, great idea, but pivotal detail not so well thought out. Plenty of leaves, twigs and other items drop from the tree and anything hitting a plastic star dome cover will make a sound. Some sap drippings also are hastening the need for cleaning of the outside. But inside, the poorly designed bathroom, while above my expectations for a star dome, is already showing signs of mildew and probably won't last the year before it will need to be ripped out... just no ventilation was built in, nor is there protection against the shower spraying everywhere. The least forward-thinking part of the Panviman star dome expansion is that while the daytime view of the valley is spectacular, the valley is full of greenhouses. All the greenhouses (we learned as the sun set) must have LEDs above every row, as when night descends, the valley lights up like New York City. So much light pollution, there is no way to enjoy any stars even if we weren't under a tree. That being said, we enjoyed our time in the Star Dome, got plenty of warm sun and enjoyed the sunset and sunrise views. Golf carts that shuffle around the resort (since its so hard to walk the steep road) are quiet, but for transport to upper levels they use the vans and trucks which are noisier. Staff often use a scooter to get up and down, which also make plenty of noise at 6am. If that doesn't wake you up, the morning prayer loud speakers from the nearby village might, and if that doesn't, the regular gun shots will do the trick. I know the Thai love their guns, but I couldn't quite figure out why we heard only 1 shot randomly every hour or two. Saturday night of our stay, there was a large party on the open lawn across from the pool villas (the most expensive rooms) that went late into the night with unnecessarily loud bass, terrible singing, but it sounded like the audience enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we were paying for a quiet pool villa and didn't ask to be part of the party, but were forced to suffer through it. The lobby desk proactively called to warn us, as if there was anywhere we could do to avoid it. We called back when the party went well past the set end time. Another example of just the poor planning design of this resort. Why put your party lawn across from the most expensive rooms? Breakfast at the restaurant was quite nice each morning, with an open air double-sided option with valley view. Best part of our day. Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and though prices are not in line with Chiang Mai, we were fairly stuck for other options and ended up going for a few times. Food was adequate, but we had better tasting dishes from most everywhere else on our trip. But at least we were usually one of only a few guests, so we had the corner view to ourselves most of the time. Check-in and -out was business like, though the rest of the staff was much friendlier... the reception crew always had a different attitude. Usually 3 out of 4 behind the desk never had a mask on, while everyone else we dealt with consistently wore masks. Being new to Thai taxi and Grab, we asked for some advice as to whether it would be difficult to call a taxi and where we would have to go to meet it (at the road or if they could come to the lobby) and the reception staff merely tried to push an all-day tour on us. We ended up figuring out Grab on our own and had to meet the car all the way at the bottom by the road, but once we did it 1x it all got figured out. BTW, Grab drivers are few and far between out in the country where Panviman is, so you'll need some patience to catch a ride, and most drivers won't be keen on taking you back to the resort as it is so far into the mountains. Wifi often forced us to re-login, but was good speed while connected. We had booked as part of a package with a free 60min Thai massage and 30% off other spa treatments. We tried to see if the Thai massage could be exchanged for a different massage with the same price, but somehow got charged full price for the other massage (not even 30% discount). Menu booklet at the spa has a variety of confusing options, same massage but different pages show different pricing and the spa desk English may not be the best. When we pointed out during check-out that we had not received the 30% discount even, the man at the desk insisted that we did. I pointed to the receipt bundle which clearly showed on the restaurant receipt the 10% discount line, but there was no commensurate 30% discount line on the spa receipt, but the desk insisted it was there. I respectfully disagreed, but since he wasn't budging on his opinion, we paid and left early. Even though the previously provided complimentary shuttle to & from Chiang Mai has been discontinued (due to COVID reasons they said), they still picked us up at the airport and returned us to Chiang Mai as part of the package, which was a nice aspect. Overall- the resort looked very pretty from the outside. Pool villa and star dome were both nice experiences. But the resort felt like it had overplayed its hand, and either being built too far outside Chiang Mai or the way it was built into the hill kept the sun from heating up the immense pool terrace and pool villas as it might have. Rooms that could have had a view have either been built facing the wrong way or the trees have been allowed to block nearly all the views of the key rooms. Some other design choices along the way (Star Dome under a tree, star domes at all when the valley light pollution makes it impossible to enjoy stars, and the immense pool terrace over build) are certainly head scratchers. The resort can certainly be enjoyed in a limited way if you don't mind staying onsite and eating in the restaurant. The noise from the gunshots, nearby village and engines from the vehicles going up/down, not to mention the occasional party on the lawn, make even the idea of it being a relaxing oasis a tough sell at times, not to mention the cold pools. Someone had a good vision once upon a time for this mountain resort, but some poor execution in the details makes this pretty on the postcard then to actually spend time at. Tantalizingly close to a nice get-away... but the flaws make it tough to justify the price-tag and the time to get here and be stuck here, when you could be spending both elsewhere closer to the city.

Dear Khun prpltry, Firstly, thank you for choosing u as your holiday destination. Secondly, please accept our sincerest thanks for the time that you took to write and share your thoughts, your expectation and feedbacks about our resort. We were happy with your words saying that the resort is beautiful and tranquil. These are our mission and what we mean to be. We are also glad to hear that you enjoyed walking down from our main swimming pool through Meditation Cavern, large pond to the Panviman Spa. This is our public area where our guests can always find different corners to sit, relax, enjoy the greenery surrounding and absorb positive energies. In regard to your constructive feedback about shade from the trees at our main swimming pool, at our Family Villa and Star Dome, we wish to share with you that we are eco-friendly resort, so we always avoid cutting the trees. As you can see all the trees in our resort are well-kept. We, however always trim the trees and keep them in good shape and allow our guests to enjoy the beautiful views of the valleys and mountains. In the meantime, please accept our sincerest apologies for disappointing experiences room requested and about discounted for spa. We wish to confirm that 30% spa discounted had been deducted from the bill. However, it’s entirely our fault that the team didn’t explain to you clearly. We have trained them how to do so. All in all, we are very saddened to read that we were not able to meet and exceed your holiday expectations, and that your experiences were at some distant from that of most of our guests. However, we do hope that we will have a chance to serve you again. Yours sincerely, Panja Nakapong General Manager Panviman Chiangmai Spa Resort

We spent 2 nights at the Panviman resort as part of honeymoon. We had an okay time, but unfortunately this resort did not meet our expectations. In hindsight, we probably would have preferred to stay in the city. What we liked: - the food at the restaurant was good - tasty, good amounts and decent prices for hotel standards. - the pool area was beautiful and well maintained. - views of the rolling hills from resort common areas (ie. restaurant, front desk) was beautiful - the free souvenir on departure was a nice detail - room was clean - the spa was nice and offered decent value and massages. What didn’t meet our expectation: - view from the room: on booking, the photos looked like the view from our balcony would be of the hillside. However, our view was blocked significantly by trees. - jacuzzi on the balcony: the tub took forever to fill (I.e ~45 minutes) because the water pressure wasn’t very high. - room decor and furniture was quite dated. - the bed was incredibly hard and uncomfortable. We had sore backs after sleeping the night. - the front desk staff forgot to arrange our prearranged transport to the hotel, which was stressful upon arriving to the airport. Luckily I had purchased a SIM card while in Thailand or it may have been difficult to reach the hotel to request that they pick us up. - transfers to the airport can only be paid by cash, and this was not told to us in advance, so we didn’t come prepared with a lot of cash. Once again, unnecessary stress during our trip as we had to scramble to find cash for the driver. This could have been avoided with clearer communication from the hotel. - the hotel cancelled the shuttle to Chiang Mai city during COVID. However, this was not listed anywhere on booking. The only option was to hire a taxi, who only take cash (1000 THB each way). We also find it difficult to find taxis/drivers willing to drive us back to the hotel once we were in the city. We wouldn’t have booked at the hotel if we had known the shuttle service to the city was eliminated. - there wasn’t much going on at the hotel, in terms of amenities and activities. This is surprising as the hotel is quite far from the city. You would think that the hotel would offer more activities or classes since there isn’t much to do in the area.

Panviman Resort is hidden gem in the Mae Rim area of Chiang Mai. I had such a memorable time there with a surprise birthday celebration. The resort was not crowded because we stayed during the off peak season. The jacuzzi villa where we stayed is really huge. Breakfast was great too. My only feedback about the room is that it is time to upgrade the sound system in the room as they are still using CD player with 3 music CD provided. As we didn’t find time to use the spa and massage facilities this time, we hope to be back again.
