I want to begin by saying I do not normally write reviews, but after our dream-like experience at Howie's Homestay, I felt compelled to do so. I had planned a three week trip to Thailand, where I would eventually propose to my now fiance. Even after booking a variety of nice resorts to stay at during the trip (including Four Seasons in Chiang Mai and Keemala in Phuket) I felt it was impossible not to choose Howie's Homestay as the place where I would propose. I had fallen in love with the pictures of the property and the rave reviews only reinforced my decision. Prior to arriving in Thailand, I reached out to Howie to explain my situation and he went above and beyond to accommodate us in addition to helping facilitate my plan for the proposal. He even coordinated the hiring of a photographer (who was fantastic) as I had no idea where to look for one in Thailand. Now, while the pictures of the property are amazing, I am not sure if a picture can really do the beauty of the property justice. It was truly breathtaking. The property is enormous, and it was amazing to have the whole place to ourselves. Howie and his wife Jerri really made us feel like we were at home. Jerri cooked us lunch and it was by far one of the best meals we had in Thailand, homemade Khao Soi! Dinner and breakfast were also spectacular. Jerri also helped record the proposal on my phone under the guise of "taking a picture before lunch". It was so nice getting to know the two of them, it really felt like we had gained a couple friends after we left. I will definitely be coming back to Howie's Homestay regularly and highly recommend booking a reservation on your next trip to Thailand. It was a deal of a lifetime to be able to stay here and receive such high-class service for the listed price. We stayed at The Four Seasons in Chiang Mai and while it was nice, it could not compare to the beautiful and serene atmosphere of Howie's Homestay nor could it compare to Jerri's amazing home-cooking! The proposal was truly a "dream come true" experience for both of us. Thank you so much Howie and Jerri!

If you’re looking for the most romantic, private place in Chiang Mai, you found it!

There’s 7 villas; however, they only rent out to one group at a time. Meaning if your only a couple, you'll have the entire resort to yourselves.

It’s extremely secluded, and tranquil. The property was designed by architect Bill Bensley, which you'll quickly notice the attention to every detail possible.

It’s about a 30 min drive from the airport, with a few shops for essentials in the area ( 7-11, pharmacy, fruit stands) about 2 minutes away.

To do’s - waterfalls, elephants, bicycle tours, scenic area.

The price is all inclusive, with all meals included by their onsite talented cook Jeri, which in its self is a thai culinary experience. They have a French Chef Alexandre Demard cook for French fine dinning chefs table experiences too, inquiry.

The host Howie is very welcoming and accommodating with a wealth information about Chiang Mai and whose who.

Best choice you can make, highly recommend!

I don't know where to start. My wife and I spent 3 nights last week and it was one of our most memorable stays ever. I have stayed at La Mamounia, 6 Aman resorts as well as many other 6-star places in the world but Howie's experience is something very difficult to explain - it was so amazing. The pavilion was fabulous and the overall property is a work of art. every corner is a treasure to behold and one can feel that the place is a product of love and not just architecture.

Jerry, Howie's wife, is one of the finest chefs I have come across and I consider myself a foodie who travels to eat at Michelin Star restaurants worldwide. more than her cooking, it was the way she presented the food as well as the warmth with which she fed us everyday we felt our family members were feeding us on our annual holiday.

Their attention to detail to maintain the comfort during the stay was outstanding - most importantly, it was luxury at the highest level. It was a perfect stay, where we had total privacy and yet he would exactly have the warmth to come and chat with us everyday to make sure we were doing great as well as keep us company over some wine.

I can go on and on but suffice to say that anybody looking for a private luxurious place with finest hosts you can imagine, should go there at least once to experience what an amazing place that is.

I have not even written about how he went out of his way to set up barbecue for us and make grilled steaks for us himself to celebrate our stay with us over wine on the last night together.

We will be back very soon.....Thanks a lot Howie and Jerri

My husband and I spent 4 nights with Howie and Jerri to finish off our 3 week honeymoon adventure in Thailand. We spent the first part of our honeymoon at 5 star luxury resorts like the Six Senses. When we arrived to Howie's we were matched with superior service with a very different vibe...privacy. We essentially had a resort to ourselves. The detail that has been put into this exceptional property is unmatched. We enjoyed spending time with Howie and sharing life experiences with each other. At the same time he gave us privacy to go about our day as well. He helped to coordinate wonderful excursions with his team -- ranging from days taking care of elephants, a fun locale shopping experience, spa services, and a day at a tea plantation! Don't even get me started on the cooking...wow! Just wow! My husband loves any spicy thai cuisine while I am vegetarian. Jerri did an exceptional job of accommodating both of our needs. We went home full and happy! We feel so lucky to have found this unique experience. One where you feel like their home has truly been opened to you and experiences shared.

We had the privilege of visiting Howie’s Homestay with our daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Greg, which had been their longtime dream. It was even better than any of us had imagined! We were warmly greeted at the entrance by Howie as he toured us all around this beautifully landscaped mystical paradise with winding pathways, bridges, ponds, and authentic Thai accents throughout. The rustic teak architecture of the home and suites were simply stunning. The gorgeous kitchen/dining room overlooked the far end of a large infinity pool where we could see the beautiful countryside with long-range mountain views just beyond the property. Since only one group/family at a time visits, we had the whole place to ourselves, which was very peaceful and relaxing. Howie’s extremely talented wife, Jerri, made us the tastiest and most artful Thai meals from scratch. We are quite sure she could even teach celebrity chefs a few lessons in both flavor and food art. We enjoyed the interesting and fun conversations with Howe and Jerri as they joined us for some meals. Their hospitality was incredible. Howie takes the time to find in advance what types of activities guests might want to enjoy during the visit. He customized and planned every single detail so that all our time spent was simply relaxing and enjoying the area. Eddy, the customized tour guide and driver, was a pleasure to be with and very knowledgeable about the area. With our welcoming gestures, we even got to enjoy little visits from our furry friends, Gigi and Deedee, as they made their daily rounds. Overall, we would rate this experience off the scale and words cannot describe this magical and charming treasure called “Howie’s Homestay”.

From my initial enquiry through to our transportation to our next location (and recommendations beyond) I cannot fault the service. Everything was as smooth and stress free as we have ever experienced.
This gem of a place is a stunning oasis with outstanding customer service.
The Teak suite is beautiful, the bed as comfortable as you will ever find, a stunning silk daybed to relax, wonderful bathroom with everything you could need, loungers outside, at the other side a full fridge and chairs in the shade, stunning gardens and complete privacy- if you require.
The day room had a wonderful collection of books and great shaded area to while away a day. The pool is fabulous with loungers, chairs and tables everywhere.
It would be easy to make this review all about the hosts but there is so much more to this place. The setting and gardens are unparalleled, the ambiance just heavenly, it’s a retreat if that’s what you require- we had massages without having to leave the premises. Howie is like a genie in a bottle, he can muster up just about anything! Jerri who is the understated star is just the most gifted chef! Every day she did her magic and completely overwhelmed us with the most delicious meals. Everything was fresh and so much choice, there was enough food for 10. She tweaked a lot of dishes as I prefer fish and veggies but she took it all in her stride and served the best food I’ve had in Thailand.
We left to experience the city and it was the worst decision of our trip. We just pined to go back. We missed our oasis and our baby BamBam (resident baby golden retriever) and of course Howie, Jerri, all the wonderful staff and not forgetting GiGi, BamBam’s friend.
We will return!!!!!!!

Howie has created his own category of accommodation. There is nothing else like it. It’s not a luxury hotel, because at a luxury hotel you will see other guests. It’s not a Homestay because it is way too opulent. It is unique in the world.

Howie worked with Bill Bensley, the famous creative genius behind some of best hotels in Asia, to build this sublime compound.

We stay here with our daughter and son-in-law for three days, and should have stayed longer. Howie and his charming wife Jerri fed us some of the best food we had in southeast Asia, arranged insider tours that only the locals know, and made sure our time as a family was memorable.

When we checked in and toured the property in wonder, our kids asked how many other guests would be staying there. When we told them it was just us, their jaws dropped.

Thank you so much Howie and Jerri. We’ll see you again soon.

I spent three days and nights at Howie's HomeStay with three friends. It was one of the most enjoyable, memorable and lovely experiences of my life. For starters, the large property is breathtakingly beautiful and designed by a world-renowned architect. Jerri's food is unreal -- as good as you find at the world's top restaurants. Howie is a superb host. I really enjoyed getting to know him, and he took great pains to ensure that all our needs were met during our stay. I can't say enough good things about this unique experience.

In a class of its own! We visited Howie and Jerri with our young children and another family in October 2023 and had an absolutely brilliant time. Howie was responsive, flexible and accommodating from very first contact and sorted out a fabulous stay, several fun and age appropriate outings and every other detail (small and large) throughout. Everything was relaxed and seamless - just what you want on holiday.

The accommodation and setting is absolutely beautiful. Photos cannot do it justice. No detail is overlooked and to have such a special space entirely to yourselves is the ultimate luxury. The guest rooms are stunning and spacious and really well laid out. Howie was very accommodating as we mixed and matched across the rooms available to fit our children!

Jerri’s cooking is top class. The variety of flavours and beautiful presentation of every dish were extraordinary. We could feel the love and care that went in to every meal and were thoroughly spoiled. Jerri’s special meals for the children were also very much appreciated - a perfect mix of classic favourites and new tastes and flavours. The special after dinner treats created fans for life. “Can we have every holiday at Howie’s?!”

We were bowled over by how much the children loved the grounds. They melted off to explore the extensive and beautifully designed gardens and paths, build dens, keep an eye on the geese, pat the dogs, admire the flowers - it was such bliss to know they were having the time of their lives but were perfectly safe. Nothing better for a parent on holiday!

Needless to say, we cannot recommend Howie’s Homestay enough.

We booked 4 bedrooms as we were staying for 4 nights with friends to celebrate our wedding at Howie's. Howie arranged every detail from A to Z for our wedding celebration and I never thought it would be this perfect!
For the wedding day, he arranged everything from the monk ceremony in the morning to the aperitif in the evening by the pool, buffet dinner, cake cutting, and a dancefloor with DJ and a photographer for the whole day. I also had a make-up and hair artist for the day! We even had a live show with dancers in the swimming pool, it was absolutely magical! I can't describe that day as it surpassed everything I had imagined, it was definitely a perfect wedding.
The rest of the stay was stunning, the rooms are very large with beautiful bathrooms, outdoor showers and spa and the food was incredible. He organized activities throughout our stay and we didn't have to lift a finger. I have never seen such a massive swimming pool! All the staff were very friendly and discreet. The whole area is very private as nobody can see from the outside thanks to the huge garden surrounding the property.
It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I can't stop thinking about the house and the garden and I cannot wait to go back. Howie and his wife know how to take care of their guests and out of all our travels, this was our number 1.
We will never forget our stay there, it was stress-free and worry-free and we cannot thank Howie enough for his hospitality. If you are looking for a venue for an extraordinary wedding or just to relax for a few days, this is definitely the place! We will be back but next time for a longer stay :)
