We stayed here for 2 weeks in May. After a pretty stressful year, we needed somewhere to just relax and tune out for a while and this was the perfect place to do it. There is a lovely beach to relax on, perfect swimming conditions, the most amazing spa I have ever visited and yoga and meditation classes provided 6... More

We stayed at the Gaya Island Resort during the month of May after 9 days of Rainforest experiences, so we were in need of some luxury and comfort. Being a big fan of all other YTL properties we were really looking forward to this part of our holiday. We arrived for our 4 night stay on time. The hotel driver... More

Booked through their website provided us free massages and boat transfers between Kota Kinabula and the resort. Everyone is so friendly and willing to assist you with whatever, whenever. The resort is secluded on an island close to KK. As such, there isn't a 711 to go to for cheap beer, sunscreen, etc. So, be sure to bring snacks, alcohol,... More

What an amazing experience! We stayed at Gaya Island Resort for two weeks in June - it was our honeymoon and we've always wanted to go to Borneo. Located a short boat ride from Kota Kinabalu this place is truly an island paradise. Ideally located between rainforest and lagoon the views are incredible. The staff were very friendly and helpful... More

Oh where do I actually begin? Well, lets start with booking a 4d 3n stay at Gaya Island Resort was the best decision for a short island getaway. Our stay was nothing but perfect and here I am having holiday withdrawal syndrome while typing this. It all started as a planned surprise birthday present for my husband and we've already... More

Looking for sand, sun, snorkling just outside the city? This is the place. Beautiful and relaxed.... just don't expect much from the food.... snorkling in the marine park is recommended though you need to be careful of the barracudas and king fish

Stayed here for three nights in June and the stay was truly amazing a highlight of the holiday. We stayed in Villa 825 which is located on the hill about a 10 minute walk from the main resort and has arguably the best views! The room was truly amazing! Snorkeling on the resorts own coral reef is a must do,... More

Really great hotel Villa's are lovely and the rooms and premises are really clean and well looked after. Staff are friendly, polite & very helpful. Restaurant facilities are amazing- the main restaurant serves pretty much anything you could want but cooked to a good standard (not your typical buffet stuff). Perfect for relaxing getaway but also activities available if sun... More

[NB - review is from April 2015 but forgot to upload sooner!] Gaya Island, privately owned by the hotel, is about 30 minutes by boat from Kota Kinabalu harbour. This means two things - 1) the setting of the resort and beach is absolutely stunning and 2) they can charge whatever the hell prices they like because it's a captive... More
