When we arrived at Mas de Garrigue at 5 PM this August, we learnt that the place was not welcoming kids. On the 90's website in the "Good to know" section, it is written "The property is unsuitable for children under the age of 10 years old" which may mean that the place is not ideal for kids as there is not much to do for them. But for a 7-month old like our kid, this remark may not apply. The other reason could be that the swimming pool appears totally unsafe contrary to the recommendations of the French administration. If the owners want to forbid their place to kids, they should write as they do for animals, "kids are not allowed" and put it on the homepage in red. Also, when we booked, one of the options let us choose if we were coming with kids. This is what we did and at this stage, it was never written that kids were forbidden and we were allowed to book a room. So, during our two days at Mas de Garrigue, we felt we were barely tolerated and that our 7-month old (who sleeps straight from 7.30 PM to 7 AM, lucky us!) was a nuisance. If Steve is a real Irish gentleman, Sarah did nothing to make us at ease at all. Just after saying the conventional “Bonjour”, she told us that we could not roll our heavy suitcases on the floor, that our son could not falling asleep in his stroller with us while we were having dinner with the other guests and that he could not sleep in our bed (as if it was our intention…) because the mattresses cost 2,000 euros. If really had the impression I was in boarding school, not on holidays. If you want to stay in a museum or feel guilty because you're a young parent, Mas de Garrigue is your place. If you're planning to go on vacation with an adorable kid, please go away.

On our "Tarifs" page aswell as our "Good to know" pages it is clearly stated that we do not accept children under the age of 10 years old. People come to out beautiful calm house, filled with antiques and intrigues, for that reason-leaving their children or grandchildren elsewhere while taking a rest from their own loved ones. We received two complaints from two couples while you were here, that we advertise that we do not accept children- when in fact there was a baby present- You may have noticed that nobody in the house made contact with your baby-it was not their wish to. You did NOT mention a child or baby when asking to reserve with us-had you- I would have refused your reservation, explaining that we do not accept children. If you remember - having welcomed your baby and wife-I carried your bags upstairs with you to help you, leaving your wife to feed the baby in its stroller, when in fact I was very busy preparing dinner for our guests . You were rude and insulting from the outset- you obviously took it as a personal insult that we do not wish to have children present in our house. Your wife, who's name I still do not know, was the most aggressive and unpleasant guest I have ever encountered. If you want to have a holliday with your child-please go to a place that welcomes little children. Ordinarily-I would not turn a baby away in the evening during the peak season when its parents would not have any hope of finding alternative accommodation in the area- I now wish I had-"no good deed goes unpunished" m.mme de calan- you are barred. NB;Our beautiful mosaic pool conforms perfectly with the French safety norms-we have a couvert a bars .

If you need to get away from it all for some peace and beauty this place has it all. Beautifully restored by Sarah and Stephen it is well situated to explore the local town of Carjac and wonderful surrounding countryside. One of many highlights of our stay was the dinner which Sarah cooks on a Monday and Tuesday night, served by Stephen with other guests in the open barn. Sarah and Stephen have excellent local knowledge of places to visit if you can manage to tear yourself away. Thank you. It ticked all the boxes. Bill and Jacqueline

I will keep coming back to Mas De Garrigue. This is my 3rd time there and Steve and Sarah are the best host ever. For a bed and breakfast, Sarah and Steve will also provide an optional fantastic dinner. There is so much to see in the Lot River Valley and this is a great location as a home base to see it all. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable beds. A quick hint is to book directly with Mas De Garrigue because you will get a better choice for rooms.

We stayed two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Having lived in the area for a dozen years, the kind and courteous hosts are very knowledgeable of the best to experience in the area: Albi, Cahor, Figeac , Sarlat, etc. Originally a nobleman’s hunting lodge, the mas is an expanded and fully restored version of a great farm house. It’s very quiet, surrounded by wheat fields and four other farm houses down the road. It has expansive views. One can take a short walk to the Lot River. The pool and lack of direct neighbors, makes it feel like a small resort in the countryside. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed. Ours had a full bath, separate shower and separate toilet along with two vanities. There are lots of nice touches, such as, water in a bottle and two glasses in the room, nice antique furniture, thick drapes, blackout windows and travel books and brochures. Breakfast is classic with ample coffee. A four course dinner can be arranged. The first night we joined impromptu for dinner the hosts and a Parisian couple looking to buy a vacation home in the area and who couldn’t go out that night. A rare and lucky occurrence, we had a great evening eating, drinking and discussing our travels and working experiences abroad. The next night we drove the short distance to the “must-see” idyllic, but touristy, hill town of Circ de Lapopie. I wish we had joined back up with the French couple who went even closer to an elegant restaurant in the neighboring town of Carjac. C’est la vie!

A wonderful surprise and thoroughly delightful. The hosts were wonderful. The scenery was truly bucolic, the area was enchanting and our visit was memorable. My wife and I were only due to stay one night but stayed two...if we had had more time we would have stayed a week.
