Awesome pools, spacious rooms - Great hosts managing the place meant for a great holiday in one of NZ's premier locations. We were lucky with the weather meaning the closeness to the Beach was perfect.. We stayed in room 109 - Ground level access to the pools so the kids loved it. The 25m lap pool heated to 26 C meant for a few lengths for me. Even wifey had a couple of Ocean swims too.. Underground parking for the wagon too. There's heaps to do on location or go cruising the Mount its all right there..

Very happy with our choice of accommodation for 6 night stay across the road from beach at The Mount. Excellent managers who looked after us well. (Thanks for the limes!). Relaxed quiet setting with well appointed modern apartments. Easy secure parking. Good location, walking distance to Mount and shops / cafes. Tay Street cafe very close by if not up for a walk into town. Loved the pool area and sun loungers. Appreciated the heated pool. Room 111 is ideal if like to be poolside and perfect sun aspect. Who needs Honolulu?

I have wanted to see what Cutters Cove was like for quite a while (since it opened approx 5 years ago) and on 1 previous occasion was not able to stay there (something to do with the resort and their systems). This time I had the same problem. I went on to the website and saw that they have 1, 2 and 3 bdrm apartments available but wasn't able to book a 1 bdrm for the dates I wanted so I called direct (just in case) and was told that 1 bdrm apartments did not actually exist within the complex which was clearly at odds with the website. From memory, it was something along these lines that had stymied a previous 'attempt' to stay there. I pursued it on the phone and was then told there were 1 bdrm apartments but only if you were corporate and I was duly asked if I was 'corporate'? Being an honest type however I said I was not. Subsequently, I searched further options (around Tauranga) but nothing was looking great so I went back to Cutters Cove via Booking.com and booked a 2 bdrm apt for 1 person. I stated personal preferences for my apartment and duly had a call back from CC reception/management on the basis of these requests which I thought was excellent. I was offered a 3 bdrm apartment for only a nominal increase in daily tariff to accommodate my requirements. I cannot fault this follow-up by the CC staff and he also dealt very diplomatically with my questions about what the deal was with the 1 bdrm apartments which appeared to be available online but were actually not available unless you were corporate. I still don't understand how an empty apartment (if the corporate demand wasn't there for the given dates) trumps an occupied apartment at a non-corporate rate for the sake of occupancy??? Anyhow, this highlights my first point in that the staff were fantastic. This and the location and the secure underground car-parking fall into the category of 'The Good'. Also good were the pool and it's surrounds. There is a lap pool and a lagoon pool + spa pool and the pool complex is not as big as it appears online but is very pleasant and I enjoyed some time in this space. There is also a BBQ area so I imagine this is fantastically family friendly for those travelling in groups or with children. 'The Bad' aspects included a door lock system that repeatedly failed with the security card (out-weighed by the staffs very prompt solutions however but it was a repeating issue and they did mention that this wasn't the first time it occurred). Also included in the 'bad' was a totally inadequate air-con system within the apartment. I was there in the heat of summer (30+ dgr) and the air-con was in the lounge but really didn't service the bedrooms at all. The first night I was there I slept part of the night on the couch in the lounge because the main bedroom was just too hot. On the following days I realised that the blinds to the main bedroom needed to be left closed...and that the air-con needed to be left on 24/7. So...the main bedroom is on the balcony (great spot) but do be aware that the other 2 bedrooms are windowless, small and musty. If you were there as 3 couples it would be a disaster unless you knew this already. Even with kids it might not be great unless very young kids who don't care about feeling like they are in a horrible room. The Ugly: This apartment is well laid out but it is the cheapest fit-out I have ever seen of any apartment I have ever lived in, rented, stayed in or visited. The fittings and fixtures are soooo budget (Mitre 10 kitchens and bathrooms would be much better than what I saw here). So...if details like this don't bother you then all good...but if you are a high end and discerning traveller with attention to detail do not stay here as some of the detail will literally bring tears to your eyes. The walls were in bad shape, the carpet was stained, there were rusty fittings/shelves in the bathroom. The tapware was appalling and the furnishings were a graveyard of 1980's badness. I will post photos to support these claims. Please note that (I think) these apartments are individually owned and fitted out by the owners rather than some-one who actually knows what they are doing. Other apartments within the complex may be much nicer but 204 is not great.

Booked here for a late summer family holiday. Was a bit concerned due to some of the comments here but ended up quite happy with the choice. Rooms were clean as was pool area. It's not a resort like Disneyland or Fiji but it was as advertised. They are unserviced apartments and have everything you need but you do have to supply your own things like toilet paper and rubbish bags. There is enough to get you started. On arrival we were offered a choice of rooms as the resort wasn't full. Staff showed us three options and we chose a pool side room. This did have an internal second bedroom which was fine for our teenager. There was some daytime noise from families enjoying the pool but almost no roadside noise. Nighttime was peaceful. The only 2 disappointing areas were the spa being out of action - but this happens, and some early morning (8am ish) construction noise from a nearby building site - not something the resort can control.
