Brilliant service, once again. Totally worth coming back to Madikeri. I think there's a leader in each person in each team, and that is to the credit of the GM. Very often, the fabulous service is from the top, but doesn't permeate across the property. In Madikeri, everyone from the folks in the lobby, to the swimming pool, to the restaurants, in the buggies, at housekeeping… Everyone thinks in alignment. Everyone owns their jobs, their roles. They’re always a step ahead of you. You never need to repeat a requirement. Each of the staff is attentive to your needs, likes, preferences – the ones that have been expressed, and the ones that they sense – always. One email to the Reservations team, and the information is shared across teams. Amazing experience, watching it all come together. That was the way it was in Oct2022 when we visited first. I unfortunately didn't write my review on the Taj link timely; and I’ve regretted that all year. But these guys have managed to better the experience in a year from our first visit. I'm grateful for the extra care, extra service. Kavya at the reception was so kind and considerate when she welcomed us. She knew we’d been there before. I was sure she hadn’t been explicitly marked on my correspondence with the hotel. An example of how messages are conveyed efficiently across teams. Ginil is an extremely warm gentleman. Has a genuine smile that reaches his eyes. Converses with involvement. He was kind, shared his phone number, gave us one of our rooms way earlier than we should have got them, coordinated on text the whole day to make sure my father’s birthday cake was brought in after we napped, and stayed in touch the entire duration of our stay. Raja, the head chef, has a brilliant team working under him. He has such a quiet voice, but a confident, reassuring presence, and knowledge of the way the property works. We met Atharva last year, working under Akhil at the time. And I reminisced a plum dip he’d made the previous year, which he recreated this time when we dined at the Grill. How much Atharva has grown!!! The balance of the lemongrass in the pumpkin soup, the perfect size of the portion of Raan he served my husband, the pineapples grilled with spice hitting the sweet spot on our tastebuds, the butter-fruit made so tasty, I could scarcely believe something so tasteless could become that tasty! Cheers, Atharva!! Last time we were at the Grill, we placed an order for our food. This time, we simply left it to the kitchen to serve us what we would like. And they outdid themselves!!! Our first time meeting Rajaguru. What a charming lad. The last time we were there, Saksham mixed all our drinks. This time, all I had to do was to tell Guru that I don’t drink, but that I wanted something Breezer-ish, passionfruit-ish, with soda, no ice, 5ml alcohol (which should not smell). Hahahha. That he came up with something that I sipped till the end of dinner happily, fitting all those complex requirements – I was so impressed. And he did it with 30ml of the alcohol. The whole family cheered for the first ever “Small” I’d successfully drunk in my life. We saw Saksham and Guru double up mixing drinks, serving coffee, Onam Sadhya – going in and out of the kitchen. Hardworking staff. Well spoken. And serving you the best that they’re trained to. Amazed by these guys. Saksham wordlessly dropped off 2 packets of bread for the fish/duck-feeding, even as we were just contemplating it. So thoughtful! The Madikeri kitchen’s home special ice-creams are the memories that served us the best. Between us as a family of six, we tried every ice-cream that was made in those 4 days: jackfruit, passion fruit, jamun, coffee, tender coconut & jaggery (which Atharva dug into some deep freezer from a few days ago to fish out for us --- I’m sure they weren’t part of the Onam Sadhya!), a delectable chocolate, strawberry, vanilla bean, and of course, paan. There was one meal where we each wanted two scoops of ice-cream, in different combinations. Laxita took the order with no repetitions, amidst yells from the excited children and greedy adults, and brought the ice-creams back to the table placing them correctly in front of the right people. Seriously, hats off. A special mention for some of the restaurant staff: Ricky, who was with us all days. So kind to the children and their funny requirements. Very well spoken, always attentive. Christopher – young and new, very promising. He had great suggestions for the Kodava meal that I was sharing with my mum. Made sure I got a separate indulgence portion of the Maddhusoppu payasa! Thanks Christopher! Laxita (our very own ice-cream queen who took Krishna down to the kitchen to get him his own coffee icecream), Prem, Guru. Many of these guys (and one more person whose name I didn’t note, he’s Malayalee, the only person who tied up his veshti as a Malayalee does, on the day of the Onam Sadhya), doubled up to run between the restaurant and the kitchen on the day of the Onam meal. Service was harder since the table was crowded with many items + banana leaves, but they tried to stay on top of the requirements of each person in our family and the tables next to us. Very impressed! Chakram, Beena, Nipun at Housekeeping. Beena left us a handwritten note. Aadya, our daughter, was simply thrilled! Chakram and team did some fantastic arrangements to celebrate my dad’s 70th birthday. It was quiet and intimate, but they helped us take pictures, took time to wish him, blow balloons (which the kids played with till they broke!). Nipun refused to take a tip when he came back to light the fire for us. We usually leave a common gratuity, but the guys who do housekeeping, room service and buggy drops deserve them on the spot so it feels like there is some appreciation for their effort. Abhishek came back quite a few times to clear trays, Nipun – to help with the fire. Thanks to each of you for helping make our stay more comfortable! Not to forget the endless goodies you brought the kids daily with your surprise platters. Every time we came back from a swim/trek/walk, the children would run to see what Housekeeping had left for us. The two platters you had with their names on them – THANK YOU! You really made their day. They were so flattered! The Nishani hike and nature walk with Pradhan and Nithin were beautiful, informative, full of the love they have for home. Gloria from the front desk walked up to find us to give us our keys on the day we checked in. There were no extra calls to track us down; just an actual person coming our way. Thanks Gloria! Mostaque had our bills ready, tallied perfectly. My daughter's short thank-you note and this review do no justice to the joy we derived from our short holiday. It wouldn’t have been that brilliant without each of you and the effort you put into your work daily – with the sole purpose being to delight each customer, even if that’s a 4-year-old who will not remember you. Shaun, such an immense pleasure coming back to Madikeri. I’m glad we could do it. Thank you for a fabulous holiday. …
