We choose the "Love to dive" package in the last week of off season. Each of our 15 dives were a beautiful and unique. My wife took her advanced open water certification with Vance Solseth, finished up in two days. We did deep dives, drift dives, wreck dives and had a truly excit

I just returned from my first visit to Roatan. I had hoped to do some diving but a head cold got in the way. Barefoot Cay was an awesome resort to stay at. It was the shoulder season so my sister and I almost had the place to ourselves. Spoiled - for sure. The staff was awesome,

Our second stay at Barefoot Cay was a delight. We like coming during the off-season as it gives us the quiet solitude we appreciate but also a chance to know the staff better, a real treat. This time we stayed in the 2 bedroom villa, well worth the extra cost for the marvelous be

How many rooms are there at your resort?
There are 3-4 rooms in the main building and a few private, multi-room cabana type huts on the beach. Both options are very nice.

How many people are typically on a dive boat, and what is the maximum number of divers per dive master?
Barefoot believes in the intimacy of diving. They're adamant about keeping the ratio of divers to dive master below 6:1. The boats only hold about 10 divers, so it'll never be crowded. Better for spotting more sea-life, safety, and getting to know your crew :)

What’s the best time of year to visit?
That really depends on what you'd like to do here...For example, if you're a diver, April and September are usually the times of year with the least wind, and therefore very calm sea conditions (and September also happens to be when some of the lowest room rates are available). But some people love the tradewinds and want ocean breezes with their warm temperatures. The chances of rainy days increase from late September through early February, but of course that's the best time to get away from the cold weather (if you're coming from "up north"). If you want more "hustle and bustle" and people-watching in the towns, then high season is Christmas through Easter Week...if you'd like more of the island to yourself, then July through Thanksgiving will be more your speed. As a year-round resident, I can honestly say every day on Roatan is a good one! Hope that helps, and let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know!

Is the beach just right in front of the resort?
There is a beach which is great for sitting and watching the water and sun. Not that good for swimming, shallow and weedy. The boardwalk out to deeper water near the cabins is a better place.
