Detailed Reviews
The setting is awesome! I think the camp was built in the late 30's/early 40's so it has a quaint cozy feel. The cabins have been up dated with all the modern conveniences--stove, refrigerator, shower, and some cabins have A/C. The cabins are very clean, and the 1 we stayed in had a ramp and a nice big deck so it was wheelchair accessible. The cabins have dishes, pots and pans, and we had a propane grill outside. Towels, wash cloths, kitchen towels are furnished and are swapped out for clean ones on Monday and Thursday. They hang them on the clothesline (I think they must do the bedding too when people check out) so they smell just like when Grandma did laundry--so clean and fresh! We rented one of their deluxe boats (Lund with 50hp Yamaha) and in a weeks time we only used the equivalent of 11 gallons of gas.
Fishing was excellent, we caught our limit of walleye and perch and even caught a couple huge crappies to take home.
If you don't want to cook, there are places to eat close by that are reasonable and have good food, and cold refreshing adult beverages!
For those who have to keep plugged in, there is wi-fi at the resort so you can work/check emails if you absolutely have to, which is nice. It also let's the kids play games, but after being out all day they really didn't care if they had a computer or not!
The people in the other cabins were very friendly and there is a community fire pit that everyone seemed to wander too every night to tell fish tales and talk. There is a little beach if you have kids that want to swim, use a paddle boat, use the slide to slide into the water.
Tammy & Monte that own the resort are helpful (Monte gave us tips on where to fish and is always tinkering with something to make the place better) and Tammy is always running around--washing windows, hanging up laundry and checking to see if they can do anything to make your stay better. Great job Monte & Tammy!
I highly recommend this resort--easy to get to, good people, good cabins & good fishing!

This Resort/Motel is an excellent place to stay for fishing or vacation, or just an overnight stay.
We found the cabins and motel very clean. The accommodations were very sufficient for cooking and sleeping arrangements. The new owners this year have really cleaned up the cabins and motel for any visitors. They are very friendly and were around to visit with all and asked if their accommodations were good or if they needed anything - They also told us that they had an "Open Door Policy" and could come to the office or around the camp and ask any questions.

We stayed at this motel the past 2 years and have had a wonderful time each year. The view of the lake from the large picture window in the room is a million dollar view. The sound of the loons in the evening is wonderful to fall asleep to. We stayed in a upper room in the motel and found it to be very comfortable. The knotty pine walls give it a cozy feeling. The decor, what I think of as "retro cottage", is nostalgic of a past gone simpler living time. Everything was very clean, the kitchenette was stocked with everything I needed to cook simple meals. Counter space is limited so I improvised and used the kitchen table to prepare things on....not a big deal, you are on vacation! There is a coffee pot, a toaster and a microwave as well. The beds were comfortable with warm blankets, I slept like a log!
While the motel is next to the highway do not let that stop you. There is hardly any traffic!
The sea planes take off on the lake in the morning and that is fun to see.
The owners allowed our 2 large golden retrievers with no questions. This made us so happy. Speaking of the owners, they are very friendly and accommodating. We were moving slowly on our check out day and realized we would not be ready by check out time, and Tammy said "take your time, I have other rooms to clean". That really helped alleviate the stress of getting everything re-packed.
There are fishing boat rentals which we enjoyed as well. Jason on the dock was very helpful with getting the boat ready and giving us tips on where to go to catch some fish!
We loved the peace and tranquility here and recommend staying here! You can relax and just feel lazy! Which is how you should be feeling on vacation.

This was my first time at Arrowhead, although my husband and friends have been coming here to fish for years. We were on a family vacation and I was disappointed in our cabin in that there were two beds in the LR Kitchen area, which meant there wasn't much room to gather for meals and post-meal games. Also, the linens were very old on some of the beds, seemed to be left over from the 60's, along with the mattresses Views are beautiful, but garbage cans are placed in odd places that ruin the view. I know that Arrowhead is now owned by younger professional people, who seem very savvy. I'm sure they will clean it up and improve it each year. They are extremely service oriented and aim to please. It was very clean.

Our room overlooked the lake. Often in the morning, the water was so still, you could see the surrounding rocks, trees and sky reflected in the water. In the room, we had a kitchenette with a combination stove, fridge and sink. The table and chairs allowed us to enjoy our own meals when we wanted. On Tuesday, there was a Pot Luck Dinner. Tammy introduced everyone there and asked why they came. It was a great chance to meet our neighbours!

Hotel or cabin - take your pick! Either way you can't go wrong. Beautiful lake with minimal boat traffic. Lake of the Woods is literally across the road. Welcoming, family-friendly resort. Did I mention that you can bring your dog? Dog's are welcome with a little extra cost. Resort has a swimming beach, boat docks, boat ramp, and some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Hang out by the nightly camp fire or take part in weekly pot-luck or fish fry.

Don't let the review of one dissatisfied customer dissuade you from giving this place a try--hellhole? NOT AT ALL. As a husband and wife who travel a lot and love to fish, we've flown out of Nestor Falls (Northwest Flying Service) a few times. We stay in NF the night before we fly out and were always curious about Arrowhead, assuming that it would be more expensive than other places for a one night stay. To our delight, it isn't at all! The cost is extremely reasonable and it feels like you get a lot of value for your money. We stayed in Room 14 which overlooks the lake through a large picture window and has a nicely stocked, fully functional kitchenette. The room was clean--Jane loves to fish, but she is picky about cleanliness--actually, Jane wishes her own home were as clean as this place, inside and out! No unusual bug activity noted. The fridge was clean and functional and although the furnishings and air conditioner were a little dated, they were absolutely acceptable...the AC kept the room cool and it wasn't too noisy. The new owners were gracious and told us that they are working to gradually update everything, If you are outside you can hear the float planes taking off and landing (a sound that we find relaxing), but in the room, you don't notice any outside noise. Neighbors we've seen so far are very friendly--it feels like a place that you would get to know the owners and the "regulars" as friends if you came here every year. We will be back!

This past June was my 8th trip to Arrowhead in the last 15 years. The resort is under new ownership and is in really good shape. It is only 1 hour North of International Falls and is really easy to get to. The past two trips I have stayed in the hotel but have stayed in the cabins many times. From a service stand point, Monte and Tammy McCleerey the new owners are providing outstanding service. We would leave to fish each morning and the room would be cleaned with fresh towels, beds made etc by the time we returned from being on the water. The rooms were clean, the grounds were kept up (mowed, trimmed and trash contained). Their knowledge of the lake for fishing and local restaurants was very helpful. I would encourage anyone coming from the US to bring their own groceries versus buying them at the local store in Nestor Falls as they can be very expensive. As usual the fishing was great, My son and I caught a total of 105 fish in 5 days of fishing. We limited out on Walleye's, Crappies and Northern Pike. Additionally we caught several large Pike and Musky between 35" and 40". We look forward to coming back in the future.

I have twice stayed at this lovely, rustic resort and i am completely enamored with it. I have to say, I normally do not write reviews but when i read the one negative review i knew i had to set things straight. Unless you are some spoiled, pampered prima donna i think you will fall in love with this place just as we have. You will feel your heart rate immediately drop as soon as you pull into Arrowhead. Giant white pines surround the property which is located right on the lakefront. The owners Monty and Tammy are always on site and will take care of just about anything you need. Each time we were there we stayed in one of the inexpensive rooms. The rooms, while dated, are neat and clean; and i simply love the charm they exude, reminding me of childhood trips we took as a family. I found the beds and bedding nice and new. The kitchenettes, while compact, are perfectly functional. And the best part is the view of the lake right through a giant picture window. Loons frolic and call out all day long. Float planes take off and land in the distance, adding to the ambience of a bygone lifestyle. I also rented a boat and went fishing and had decent success for a part time fisherman from the midwest. All the other guests we met at Arrowhead were equally in love with the place, and many of them told us they have been coming for quite a few years. Everyone we met was friendly and engaging. Arrowhead is simply a great place and i know i will keep coming back.

My husband and I have stayed in many fish camp type of establishments. However, nothing could have prepared us for a stay in this hellhole. Where to start? We booked upstairs rooms in the motel. These are advertised as ' kitchenettes'. I suppose if two crooked burners, and a refrigerator that thinks its a freezer, is your definition of a kitchenette then you will not feel slighted! Oh, and even though you are there to fish, the owners would like you to refrain from cooking fish in your room. And please shut the bathroom door when you shower because the steam makes the smoke alarm go off. If you get locked out of your room, just ask a motel neighbor for a key, they all seem to fit. Do not expect anyone to worry about the pile of dead bugs in your bathroom, or the fact that the air conditioner sounds like a
plane taking off. Old tired lumpy beds and even older bedspreads. And if you want your stay to be super special, ask if the public utility guys are renting a block of rooms the same time as you. They are an extra special treat! They bring cases and cases of beer back to their rooms. Then they drink it out in the parking lot...and discuss smoking pot and their very favorite adjective begins with F. One last caution, do not go in the gazebo on the water, apparently, the owners do not believe in killing spiders EVER!

"We stayed in an upstairs motel room--parking and outdoor seating was on the backside just outside our room door facing away from the lake. This means we had a picture window with a view of the lake. I think the downstairs units have chairs outside the door and overlook the lake (picture windows also). The main differences are in the bed and kitchen configurations. There are also a variety of cabins on the property."Read full review
