The place is very nice with a beautiful view. It is a little run down. The service is great and they are happy to help in any way they can. The pool has a little too much chlorine. It is located on a slope street so it does take an effort to get there if you go for a walk... More

The main asset of this place is already revealed by its name. We had a pretty nice room, with good beds, reasonably clean (could have been better though)... but what a great view on the river that is meandering below! Staff is friendly and the hotel is within easy walking distance from the main square of the charming town.

We were picked up from the train station by Javier and Eleazar. On the way to the hotel, the men started telling us the history of the town which I thought was very interesting and entertaining. The hotel is spread out across different levels and locations and has varying styles and paintings. They got us settled in a corner room... More

I stayed at the Rio Vista hotel while on the way to Copper Canyon in Jan. of 2016. It is a very charming, funky little place with a very fun and accommodating owner who will go out of his way to make your stay pleasant. Would you like a tour of the town and surrounding area? No problem, he will... More

An average hotel with beautiful views of El Fuerte River. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Our host, very cordial. Coffee is served to your room in the morning and it's pleasant sitting out on the patio looking over the river, listening to all the birds. The hotel offers a tour of the area which I suggesting taking. Well worth... More

We had a lovely stay at the Rio Vista. Very personable staff with local knowledge. The room had an excellent river view. We took the bird watching and petroglyph tour and greatly enjoyed it. Would love to return someday from distant Australia!

This hotel is small, old, hard to find, and even harder to describe. It is right beside the old fort, and our room overlooked a million dollar river view. Don't expect room amenities; you won't find many amenities in small hotels in small Mexican towns, but the hot water was adequate. No in-room coffee, no bath mat or washcloths, etc.... More

We didn't actually stay at this hotel but we used their tour service. Our guide,Felipe, was very knowledgeable about the birds, plants and animals and the ancient petroglyphs. It was excellent! We went in the late afternoon and spent about 3 hours with our guide, walking, and boating down the riverWe took the tour in Spanish but he knew the... More

I'm pretty certain this place has the best views in town but what makes it really special are the guys who work their. The owner and right hand man are super nice, relaxed and informative. I wish we had known beforehand so we could have booked an extra day and explore the laid back town more. Also we didn't know... More

We stayed here before taking the train to the copper canyon. When we arrived instead of bringing in a roll away to accommodate our family of 5 the owner gave us an additional room next door. So Nice! He let us park our car in front of the hotel while we were away in the canyon and had breakfast and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
On the highest hill with a view of the Fuerte River, this lodge is a reconstruction of the original stables to the fort. Verdant gardens are abuzz with hummingbirds and many endemic birds may be viewed from the balconies. The owner, Chal, is an avid birder and his river float offers true birding with a spotting scope.
