Posada del Hidalgo is a beautiful colonial mansion. This attractive structure was built in 1890 by Don Rafael Almada, a wealthy and influential "alcalde" (mayor) who spent five years and 100,000 gold pesos on its construction. The wooden trim was made from 285 Canadian red pine beams. Don Rafael's mansion was the largest and most beautiful in El Fuerte. It was built just below the old fort, and has four layers of brick and adobe construction. The iron work was brought from Mazatlan.

Lovely colonial hotel with gardens, pool and a rooftop bar.
Rooms a good size, comfy beds and pillows.
No opening window. Cockerels start crowing at 5am onwards so no need to set an alarm!
Charged bottled water in the room $39 pesos.
Enjoyed the free Zorro show even though we didn’t speak Spanish.
Lovely courtyards.
A short walk to the beautiful square.

Our stay, although brief, was magnificent, we were received in a very warm way from the moment we arrived at the train station. When we arrived at the hotel they were waiting for us with a welcome drink and very friendly faces that make you feel welcome. The rooms are beautiful, not to mention that it is a hotel with a lot of history, it is like sleeping in a museum, within the same property there is a lot of history, there is a guide who for 200 pesos will give you a tour inside the large house and in the emblematic areas of this town called Fuerte, which transports you to the past in a pleasant way. Also the girls at the reception, all of them but especially Christian was our waiter during dinner and he was incredible, his wine recommendations as well as the way he serves you makes you feel like staying longer. We are very happy to have discovered this place, without a doubt we will return.

The hotel is nice, clean and very well located which allows access to the tourist sites of the village "El Fuerte" in Sinaloa which is a small, very quiet town that you can tour in a couple of days. I really liked its adjoining with the museum that overlooks the river and that allowed me to hear the talk of Blanca, the Guide that vehemently told us about the history of the place; if you visit it look for it because it is wonderful.
In the hotel we were recommended the show of the fox since here lived Diego and Alejandro de la Vega who brought the legend to life. The show left us much to be desired as they do not tell any legends just dance a little while serving dinner, which is also not 10, however the staff's attention is excellent.

This is a lovely property and booked with Coppercanyon.com which is an agency owned or contracted by the Balderamma Hotel group. So they put us here and in El Mirador up at the Canyon. This hotel, while lovely, has old rooms with little ventilation. Our A/C leaked water on the floor and went bananas in the middle of the night, sounding like a frieght train, so we turned it off. There was no air in the room. So I opened the door and the window, which had no screens. The lights were blinding. There are NO room phones, so I dressed and walked all the way to lobby. NO ONE was there and the reception area was dark and locked. NO STAFF present. So, what if I had a heart attack, or slipped on the water on the floor and cracked my head on the tiles? What about fire? There was no help available. Completely dangerous and I'm not sure it is even legal. This is a colonial building that desperately needs upgrading in the rooms and needs to be staffed 24/7. Oh! and they don't have potable water but will gladly SELL you bottled water. So, the basics of human life: water, air and security all not available for our stay. Good luck if you stay here. I refused to stay on the return tip and went straight to Los Mochis. El Fuerte is not much of a town, anyway. One hour is enough.

Look for another option.

We booked on the hotel page and the person did not put it in system and when we arrived at the hotel our reservation did not exist, they had to make one in the lobby and we lost enough time.

Dinner and coolers damaged, cuts bad, prawn unopened and on top of everything expensive! Oh, and they practically forced us to pay a 4,000 peso restaurant bill in cash because there was no system.

Room service does NOT EXIST. There is no phone in the room to communicate to the lobby, they give you a WhatsApp number that they do not even answer, above all the restaurant closes super early at 9pm.
In the room there is no microwave or refrigerator if you want to take something because the hotel does not have room service.
It is a hotel of the balderrama chain and is super prestigious, what an unfortunate experience.

We spent a few hours here on a tour and really enjoyed the food, dancing and hummingbirds. The town is very beautiful and the hotel and gardens are fun to explore.

We didn't stay here but looked in a few rooms and they were very nice. The outside bar was also very nice.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I would definitely stay here on our next visit to the area.

Excellent facilities, service, menu and atmosphere in this Hotel. Its rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the hotel itself offers a historical attraction that you cannot miss, many stories within the same place. Highly recommended.

The hotel is part of the Balderrama group. This is where the legend of Zorro originated.
It is a somewhat dated hotel in a rustic style. Simple rooms. Often entire tour groups are accommodated here.
For many, the hotel is the starting point for a trip by train (Chepe) through the Copper Canyon to Chihuahua.
We have been here several times and the reservations have always worked out perfectly.
The hotel also offers guided tours in El Fuerte and the surrounding area, which are worth taking part in.

We arrived at 3:00 pm after Chepe and they assigned us the room until 6pm… they oversold their rooms.
The room they assigned us was #15, it does not have a television and was dirty with bugs in the bed and pillow, with a musty smell, mattresses in terrible condition, no towels, and also that the door of the room literally faces the street and it is not inside the hotel. Unsafe without a doubt…
Bad attitude of reception staff
After an excellent stay at your Mirador hotel in Divisadero, I now think that your service is terrible!!! Pity

At the Hotel Posada del Hidalgo, during our first stay, everything was very helpful, the rooms in adequate location and hygiene. The second stay we had in rooms with poor hygiene (musty smell, with cobwebs, dusty furniture), without towels, very far from the center of the hotel, we went to the reception, KADMIA helped us, we told her about the situation and she contacted her manager and He immediately gave us several solutions, he is excellent at solving problems, friendly, accessible, helpful and above all professional, we appreciate his attention!
However, your colleague ANA has a not very tolerant attitude and does not provide a solution to the problem, so I suggest improving customer service, since it is a service that is being provided.
In general, the reception staff of the Balderrama group hotel chain (with the exception of the Misión de Cerocahui hotel, which were very friendly) should improve the treatment of guests.

As long as you stay there, you can park your vehicle in their very small lot behind the hotel that they lock-up at night. Therefore, your vehicle needs to be very small and compact otherwise, it won't fit! We have a large F150 extended cab pick-up truck, so we rented a small caR so that we could park there and off to The Copper Canyon we went on El Chepe for 6 days! Good luck!

Do you have any rooms that ave 2 beds and that have a walk in type shower? Thanks
Answer from bulldoug85745
Tucson, Arizona442 contributions35 helpful votes
Yes to both questions. We stayed in two different rooms. A more expensive and larger room before taking the train and a smaller, less expensive room upon our return. Both had two beds and walk in showers. Please note however it is a fairly steep walk on an incline to go from the street up the reception area-bar-dining room. This is a really nice hotel and I strongly recommend it.
