This place is a dream come true! It's the perfect mix of luxury and jungle combined. Megan was wonder at helping us plan our trip and making suggestions. We planned to stay 3 nights and ended up staying 4 because we loved it so much.
I stayed at the Selvista Guesthouse for a long, March weekend. It was … just as they say on the website - no surprises. Very tranquil; isolated; far from the port of Moyogalpa (41 klms - take the taxi) where the ferries dock; on the side of the smaller volcano; lots of birds; a few howler monkeys; and a few giant sized toads running around the woods. The little village of Balgue is indeed a 15 minute walk from the hotel / cabins; the village has at least two decent restaurants. The Argentine hotel / restaurant did offer a traditional ''befe chorizo'' and ''alfajores'' - sure sign its Argentine owned. Ometepe is difficult to get to. I live very close in Granada, 20 minutes as the crow flies; but it took me about 7 hours to arrive in Balgue from Granada : bus to Rivas; taxi (over priced ) to San Jorge; a boat / ferry to Ometepe; another bus to Kino; walked for an hour and a half, and then flagged down a motorcycle and hitched a ride on the back to arrive in Selvista. The Selvista Guesthouse is at the end of the only paved road on the island and it feels like the end of the world!! Weather was beautiful; hot during the day but still cool at night. There are no room air conditioners at the hotel which could be a bit uncomfortable during the hottest months of April - June. The hotel ''kitchen'' was a bit more informal than I had expected, but it worked: open air; chef in attendance in the morning to cook breakfast for those in need; fruit available for the taking - unfortunately much of it was not yet ripe, early season. The open kitchen was however a great AM meeting place for conversation with other guests. Over all it was a lovely, quiet, relaxing stay.…
Magical setting right in the jungle. We organized meals and tours before with Megan and it was seamless and easy!! Beautiful spot! The dome home was super cool and we had a spectacular view. If you hike Volcán Madras be ready to get muddy. Definitely recommend hiking boots!!
My wife and I stayed in the dome house. Every morning we woke to the sound of howler monkeys and had a wonderful breakfast of local eggs and fresh fruits from their permaculture farm, some of which we had never heard of! Everyone who works here is so kind and helpful- no question goes unanswered. We really enjoyed our tour of the property with Megan and she knows all the best places to visit on the island (kayaking is #1!). Ometepe is an adventure and Selvista is a big part of it!
A truly unique and special place, found ourselves very fortunate to experience the sights sounds and smells of the jungle for a couple of days. Off the beaten path that is for sure, amazing staff, breakfast was delicious and the Howler monkeys made our stay all that more special. We hope to one day return here. Our host, Megan, was wonderful at helping us prior to our arrival and during our stay, her restaurant recommendations were on point and her knowledge of the island was very helpful. We had a wonderful Yoga teacher during our stay which made our mornings so pleasant and the people we met here were fantastic.
