If you do not want to pay three times more to sleep at Dalen Hotel from 1894, then clean and home cosey Dalen B&B is a superb alternative. The rooms are relatively small, but everything is clean and sober with interior in a typical Nordic style. The host is up before you to make a real Norwegian breakfast ready before you enter the relatively small dining hall. If you are lucky the host will share some stories about Dalen and region around.

Just a short review of our single night stay at this nice B&B. It’s a little more than a B&B, our room was fine, clean and comfortable. Olivier the proprietor was the best! He is very well informed, speaks multiple languages, and gave us excellent, useful and true advice about places to eat, things to do or see on our intended travels the next day. Thank you very much!

We just stayed at Dalen B&B on our way to Oslo. Dalen is extremely beautiful and the B&B is located near the small town which has a couple of restaurants and a supermarket. We had a double bedroom with en suite which was clean. The owners gave us good recommendations regarding scenic routes and things to do in the area. We ate at the restaurant by the harbor which has the best view of the lake and went over to Dalen Hotel for drinks (highly recommend).

We only stayed a single night as we passed through to take a boat down the Telemark Canal the next day. We should have arrived in Dalen by local bus, but when we changed at Amot they told us that only 4 passengers had booked, so they sent us in a taxi (free of charge) instead! That's how small and off-route Dalen is.

Friendly welcome, room a bit Spartan (but this is B&B not a luxury hotel). We got a discount on our local restaurant meal at the pier by simply showing our room keys (as advised by the B&B owner). He suggested a nice walk back from the pier around the end of the lake, and gave us a leaflet with a map. We enjoyed the walk.

We slept well, rose early, had a good filling breakfast, walked 10 minutes to the pier and headed off down the canal.

All in all, a good useful B&B.

We turned up without reservations on a night when the main Dalen hotel was closed for a private function. The owner was accommodating and helpful despite the late hour and gave us the room with the hot power shower which was nice after two days hard riding on the motorcycle. The place is expensive but all of Norway is, so that goes with the territory.

Breakfast was Scandinavian style with cold meats, cheese, bread, juices and coffee. When I ate everything on the counter, more quickly appeared. :) Highly recommended and if you are biking Norway, this is a logical stop on the way through Telemark. Don't miss the Rjukan pass and the lakeside road at Tinnsja!

Room Tip: One of the rooms has a bigger bathroom with a power shower if you're into that.

You expect the friendly personal welcome and warmth at at B&B but this one is also large enough to offer many regular hotel services. Lots of room choices, excellent breakfast with Oliver, the owner, constantly refreshing the hot breads, juices and eggs, great directions and maps and eating recommendations. Easy to find right on route 45 yet totally quiet.

I found this place while looking for an overnight stay, driving from Oslo to Stavanger. The owner, a serviceminded Belgian it turned out, easily made a booking on telephone and welcomed us upon arrival. We found the rooms clean and with good mattresses, with a typical cosy norwegian cabin feeling. The owner guided me, my teenager son and his two friends to a very nice restaurant down by the water, where we participated in a quiz. We made the decision that the first prize, a voucher to eat at the restaurant, should be given the owner as a present. We lost...
The owner voluntered information about the place, very un-norwegian! The breakfast was tasty and plentiful. We left the place with good feelings and will definitely consider it next time passing Dalen. Bring cash to pay, cash mashine although in close vicinity.

This is exactly what you would expect from a B&B in the sticks.. its quaint & quirky but perfect for one night, the owner is very friendly and rooms are tidy and clean.. the local pub on the corner is a joke but the Dalen Hotel around the corner has a magnificent lobby & bar ...its haunted as well we've been told :)

Visited early May. Booked the balcony room which turned out to be extremely small. We’re travelling for 10 weeks and visiting climates ranging from 0 to 30c so have large luggage. Jan who checked us in suggested the bags wouldn’t’ fit in the room and offered the use of another room not being used for storage. This proved a godsend as she was correct. It was a case of the bags or us getting in the room. Apart from the room size the bath towels were little bigger than tea towels and way past their use by date. There was a hole in the sheet. This b&b is one of the most expensive we have stayed in in Europe. They get away with it as the only competition is a very expensive hotel. If you visit Dalen at any time out of season, eating dinner becomes a big problem. There is only one option- the hotel which only reopened at the start of May and is very expensive. This property has no lounge to relax in only the breakfast room. On a positive note, breakfast was ok without being anything special and Jan who checked us in and did breakfast was very nice.

I really enjoyed. Traveled with family and everyone loved it. Friendliness of the owners, homemade breakfast, cozy room and beautiful surroundings.

Cleaning and maintenance of very good home.

For those who enjoy nature this is a perfect place where you can make a safari at dawn, with the car to see foxes and moose.
