Tripadvisor gives a Travelers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travelers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
What an unexpected 5 star dinner we had. Tucked away just outside of Playa Negra, this little villa, hotel, restaurant is top shelf. You will drive on roads that you'll need a 4 wheel drive to get to, but it's worth it. We loved every bite, the tuna was the best we had in 5 months in Costa Rica and the steak was sublime.
A must.

One of the top dining establishments I’ve ever been around the world. The quality of the food, the service, and the Attention 2 Detail are as good as any Michelin star restaurant. In fact, if you read the history of the ownership, you will find that they did own Michelin star restaurants in the US. They must do while in Costa Rica.

What a great family and story behind this place. While the night time drive to find this place was challenging, we "took the road less traveled". The back way to get here was not a good choice in a rental car. I would recommend calling to get directions since Apple Maps and Google will try to kill you. We will be back. The food was excellent. Thank you for the experiences.

We returned yet again in January 2020, just as amazing as the year before. The rooms have been updated, they were already great !! Attention to detail is refreshing. You are made to feel like you are at home everytime. Sleeping in the jungle amongst nature is invigorating, only made better by their excellent service. Hope to see you again very soon. xx

Awesome little hide away! If you’re staying with friends or family but still like that little bit of space this boutique hotel is where it’s at. Quiet and quaint, relaxing and convenient. The food is next level. We ate here most nights because it was so amazing. Staff if so friendly so happy that it makes the whole experience special. Def check it out.

Amazing! Everything about it. The food, the staff, the accommodations, the experience.
We were treated like family. Patrick and Tasia were thoughtful and kind. Tito helped us with our morning coffee and told us when to catch a local futbol match. The place is breathtaking and the food is exquisite. The best tuna I’ve ever had. And less than 15 minute walk to the beach. I will be going back!!!

My wife and I stayed here in early December 2011. We had a fantastic stay with our hosts, Patrick, the chef, and Tasia, his very capable, charming and helpful wife. There are six rooms surrounding a beautifly landscaped swimming pool. Despite its small overall size, each room has plenty of space and privacy. You sit on the bed and look out onto the pool. The place is quaint enough so that it is hard not to meet the other guests and the mingling is encouraged. Wake up in the morning to have copy with other guests and sometimes hosts in their pajamas under the large cabana housing the restaurant kitchen and covered outdoor eating area. Keep this a secret: You will never have this kind of experience at the four seasons...its a treasure. Beaches and other restaurants are pretty close by. Massage is available in the "tent" at the far end of the swimming pool.

Fantastic dining overlooking beautiful pool in a lush garden setting. There are six rooms around the pool each with it's own out door shower. The property is owned and operated by an amazing chef and his family. Casual attire with elegance in dining. Come in from the dusty road and each of your senses come alive. We've stayed here solo, (as a couple) and again over the holidays with our grown children. You are a 7 minute walk to a surfer beach and within a few miles of many various beaches, each with it's own unique flavor. Villa Deevena feels like home (if your home happens to come with a 5 star chef and be in a tropical paradise)

Many people comment on the road to this place. The main road is not paved but not bad for Costa Rica. It has gravel and is pretty well maintained. Do not take the road between 152 and the restaurant unless you have a car with good suspension and it has been dry. But you do not need to take that path.
This place knows food. We had breakfast and the meals were about 10 to 14 US. But all were perfectly done.
I had the croque monsieur was great. The cheese was melted and not too strong. The bread was firm and tasty.
Others had eggs Benedict and were very good.
We went over and hour and 15 minutes to get here and are thinking of going again when we can. Maybe for lunch. Too far for dinner and the local roads.
They also have 6 cute rooms to rent and a very nice pool.
The staff is very nice and all speak English great.

A really cute little hotel. The rooms are nice, but nothing special, and I didn't love that I only had an outdoor shower as it was riddled with bugs and debris. I know that might be part of the charm, but I'm a city gal and just wanted a normal, clean indoor shower. However, the restaurant is really special and as others have noted, the Chef is truly world class. In any big city in the world, this would be a million dollar, 5-star, hoity toity meal. Instead, you get down to earth, warm and friendly service and genuinely incredible food without pretense. The little town of Playa Negra is delightful - sweet and charming and the beach is pretty. A hidden gem for sure. All dirt roads and rough ride to get here, but worth it. A special thanks to the wonderful family who owns and operates this place - really a one of a kind and memorable experience.
