This is our second time in Costa Rica and we went back to our favorite restaurant Villa Deveena this last Dec. 2019 We were a party of 7 , not only was the service impeccable but once again the dinner was amazing!! The seafood is always great ! Don’t let the bumpy road stop you from going there . It is absolutely the best restaurant around !!!
Many people comment on the road to this place. The main road is not paved but not bad for Costa Rica. It has gravel and is pretty well maintained. Do not take the road between 152 and the restaurant unless you have a car with good suspension and it has been dry. But you do not need to take that path. This place knows food. We had breakfast and the meals were about 10 to 14 US. But all were perfectly done. I had the croque monsieur was great. The cheese was melted and not too strong. The bread was firm and tasty. Others had eggs Benedict and were very good. We went over and hour and 15 minutes to get here and are thinking of going again when we can. Maybe for lunch. Too far for dinner and the local roads. They also have 6 cute rooms to rent and a very nice pool. The staff is very nice and all speak English great. …
We returned again for another fantastic time at Villa Deevena! The rooms, recently refreshed, are lovely with very comfortable beds, A/C, relaxing overhead fan and those amazing outdoor showers. The saltwater pool is beautiful and refreshing. And the restaurant!! Oh my...the best food in Costa Rica and possibly the world. Absolutely 5-star cuisine. Chef is world class and it shows. The meals are spectacular, the wine list impressive and the service is perfect. This is not “Costa Rica on $5 a Day.” This is idyllic perfection. Prepare to be amazed.
An impressive "hidden gem" which is operated for its own purposes. There is in fact no WiFi provided, smoking is not permitted anywhere, and the expensive menu understates the cost by 20%+ (because taxes and service are not included in the stated prices, which is unusual). Perhaps the most telling moment came when we asked to have a refill of our morning coffee (price $4) and were given new cups and charged an additional $8. The next most telling came when we asked for ice for our cooler (there are no refrigerators in the rooms) and were told to go down the road and purchase some at the local market.
The atmosphere can not be beat. Elegant, tropical and a twist of eclectic. It all works beautifully. Then we can talk about the hospitality. Every person has a way of making you feel so special from the second you enter the restaurant. And now, the food....extrordinary. This family works magic in Villa Deevena. Don't miss out. Oh yea, and incredible wine list if you are interested.
