Stayed a couple of nights on a road trip around Northland. First impressions were excellent when we phoned in advance to make a booking and get some local information. Very efficient check in and Judy and Craig were friendly and generous hosts. They had a wealth of local knowledge and plenty of good stories to tell.
The rooms all have different configurations to suit many needs and ours was spotless. The water pressure wasn't quite as strong as we're used to but that was really the only thing we would improve. We will definitely be back again for a longer stay and some fishing out of the beautiful Whangaroa Harbour.

Everything was terrific - room, location, view, hosts etc. Having a verandah to sit outside in the fresh air and watch the birds and dolphins was really nice.
We were given helpful advice on local attractions and lastly I would love to return and stay longer to enjoy the peace and quiet.

This was probably one of the 2 best places we stayed in our 3 week trip to NZ. Up a very steep drive it didn't look much but when you get there WOW, the view over the harbour from the rooms is stunning. The lovely owners have only been there since October 2009 and have tastefully refurbished the rooms to a very high standard. The mature gardens have lovely sitting areas, if you are not happy on your balcony, or walk up behind to the lovely church. Our upstairs studio room with a nice kitchen area and large bathroom was $135 a night including free laundry and internet. Downstairs was $125 and still had a great view. Whangaroa is a lovely little place, fishing seems to rule here so take a boat trip, the angling club also does good meals and cheap drinks! There is a hotel and cafe too. Ther is a great 30 minute steep walk up to the top of St Pauls rock which rewards with fabulous 360 degree views. Wish we could have stayed much longer than our 2 nights.

I am a Kiwi ex pat who was on a visit from the UK, and friends took me on a nostalgic tour of the far north. We only spent one night at the Whangaroa Lodge, sadly, wish it had been more. We had unfortunately booked the wrong dates online, but Judy managed to find us a room, despite a national fishing competition going on in the harbour. The views from our upstairs accommodation were spectacular. We took our wine down to an outside table to enjoy the event, and Judy provided us with some amazing home-made smoked marlin and marlin pate as an accompaniment-delicious.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay in this area, the Whangaroa Lodge Motel is perfect. Thanks Judy, your hospitality was second to none.

We loved every aspect of this Motel. From the warm welcome from Craig & Judy to the outstanding views. It is spotlessly clean with all the amenities you need. It's a perfect base to explore the harbour and the surroundings region, all of which a picture post card perfect. The Whangaroa Sport Fishing Club is in easy walking distance and serves great meals. But the lasting memory we will have is how we were made to feel part of Craig & Judy's extended family. If you are travelling to this beautiful part of NZ, don't miss this experience!

Congratulations to the New Hosts with your warm smiles and compassion as we arrived to attend a funeral, the loss of my friend Narelles Mum Narelle. We thank you and wish all your future guests reflect this kindness back to you ten fold. Review time : I found the bed to have crisp white sheets, clean fluffy pillows fluffy duvet/blankets madeup with a touch of modern, I did not want for anything in the kitchen and found the bathroom fresh, clean with a big shower head for nice hot showers. Every idle moment was not wasted as you breathe in the mountains, the harbour, the shadows of sunrises and sunsets filling your being with a peace in a piece of paradise. TY once again arohanui Monica & Vivian.

Highly recommend this for the absolutely awesome views. Really warm Kiwi welcome, nothing too much trouble. Appartments spacious, very clean and all the amenities you need. See pictures taken around the apartments. Would definitely go back and recommend to anyone.

We would like to recommend Whangaroa Lodge Motel to everybody who travels up this way.
Clean and superbly maintained rooms with love to every detail !

We (family of 4) travelled over Christmas 2012 and staid at Whangaroa on our way to a campground further up in the far north. We consider ourselves very lucky to have chosen this place and wish to thank Derek and Sheryl for their fantastic hospitality.
Everything was perfect and I honestly did not expect this level of accommodation in this area.
Thank you !
For dinners go down to the game fishing club and get your fix of fish and chips;-) yummy !

Our stay was only brief (1 night) but was very comfortable. The rooms have been very tastefully renovated and upgraded - were clean and warm. And the views from the deck were outstanding! We loved our stay here and would definately recommend to others. We plan to return another time. We also recommend Lukes Cafe in Whangaroa - wonderful fish & chips!
