A beautiful building with a real sense of history reflecting its location. Staff really friendly and helpful. Treated like we were at home. Help when needed, left alone when needed. Very olde worlde. Probably need to wrap up a bit warm in the winter. Great venue and place to stay either end of the cycle trail.

We spent one night at the Riverhead Guest House when cycling the Twin Coast Trail, I wish we had stayed longer. The house itself is a 19th century gem, moved to this remote location and restored. We stayed in the Cannibal Jack room, but they are all characterful. Paul was an attentive and interesting host, happy to arrange bicycle rentals and meals at the Hotel.

We really couldn’t have had worse weather in the Winterless North, however, that just did not matter as our stay with Paul at the Riverhead Guest House was simply fantastic. Turning up early, soaking wet and covered in mud from our cycle along the Twin Coast Cycleway Paul went out of his way to accommodate us. From bike cleaning to impromptu lunch and a hot cup of tea nothing was too much effort. His interesting conversation and superb hospitality continued throughout our stay. We occupied the Rose Room with ensuite on the ground floor. It was simplicity at its best coupled with a lot of charm. A heater and electric blanket were provided so we were comfortable and cosy despite the inclement weather. The bed was very comfortable. The ensuite was roomy with a new shower installed. The house itself has an fascinating history and is almost all yours to explore during your visit. Old photos dispersed throughout the villa propel you into a bygone era. The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens and has magnificent views to the north. If you want escapism then this is it. We wouldn’t hesitate staying again or recommending the Riverhead Guest House to anyone whom asks.

Riverhead was the ideal place for my friends and I to stay. Located in a stunning position, it is so handy for those, like us who ere experiencing the Twin Coast Cycle Trail. The house is full of character and very comfortable and spacious. Life on the terrace is brilliant with magnificent views through the beautifully kept gardens. Owner Paul will give you a warm welcome and has a wealth of local knowledge to help you. Superb breakfasts and coffee!

The Riverhead Guest House was a fabulous place to stay. It's a huge house with lots of space to relax. It felt like a home away from home. Our rooms were excellent and the beds were comfortable. Iris, who lives on the property is a warm, welcoming house who provided wonderful insights into life in the North. Nothing was too much trouble for Iris and she made our 91 year old father feel extremely comfortable. The house is in Horeke, which is a small settlement with one hotel and that's it, but an excellent base to explore the local area.
