A very impressive villa complex, extremely well managed by Helen, who is always on hand to help out with problems or with tasks. Comfortable accommodation, with good facilities but perhaps missing its pool. Brantome itself is lovely and there is lots to do in the Dordogne. My 12 year old was very active and enjoyed our time there immensely.
My wife and I have stayed at ‘La Bruyere’ on several occasions in Spring, early Summer and Autumn over the past few years – this is our first review and 'La Bruyere' is our favourite villa at the Domaine. This delightful tranquil semi-detached house is set in trees overlooking a courtyard of half a dozen other like houses. It is an ideal holiday home which can sleep 5 people comfortably, with 2 very large bedrooms - one of which is en suite. Both bathrooms are newly refurbished to a high standard with wonderful large showers. Downstairs there is a very well equipped and modern kitchen/dining room leading to a spacious large lounge which is very tastefully furnished and extremely comfortable. There is UK satellite TV and excellent Wi-Fi – we enjoyed Netflicks on our most recent visit. ‘La Bruyere’ has a covered outside eating area at the front with a gas Bar-b-Que. The rear patio is also a dining area with chairs and table so you can bask in the morning sun or dine in the shade, whichever you fancy. The home has all modern appliances and is fitted out to a high standard. There is an underground car park with each home having an allocated car parking space. The on site manager Helen is a fund of information and speaks both english and french – her quick witted Irish humour is second to none and her personal touches are greatly appreciated by all returning guests, of which there are quite a few. She genuinely wants her guests to get the most out of their holiday and nothing is too much trouble for Helen, she is available on site every morning. Brantome is 15 minute’s walk away at most, or a very short drive. This beautiful small town has several fine restaurants and a handful of Bistro’s and bars – we recommend Fred’s for a pre dinner drink to join in on the local atmosphere. There are a selection of Boulangeries and Charcuteries serving fresh bread and local fare, there are also two Supermarkets (Carrefour and Aldi) within easy walking distance of the home. There is also a large outdoor market every Friday morning. Brantome is an ideal base to discover the PÉRIGORD region and the Dordogne - it is near to Périgueux and halfway between Angoulême and Bergerac so flights and car hire are convenient. We love to visit Saint Jean de Cole during out stay too. All in all, this house and the area are a dream come true and I would recommend it to anyone, you will not be disappointed - we have already booked again! Margaret and David Herriman.…
This is a truly relaxing place to stay. The accommodation in La Bruyere is excellent. It is so peaceful and rural. This is our fifth year of coming here, and we are never disappointed. Helen is always available to deal with any queries or problems. The village is full of restaurants and bars, and there are plenty of sights to explore in the vicinity. We will be back next year.
We spent a week at La Bruyere at the end of August 2019. The house is situated in a lovely development just outside the beautiful town of Brantome. It’s a lovely 20 minutes walk through country lanes and paths to the town, or about ten minutes along the road, or three minutes by car. The development is very well maintained with beautiful grounds and an underground car park that keeps all traffic out of sight. When we stayed the Domaine was quite quiet but even when busy I imagine that you will still feel quite private as each house has its own private terrace and garden area which are not overlooked. La Bruyere is really exceptional with good quality furnishings, appliances and décor. It has two good-size bedrooms and two bathrooms (excellent showers!) and is supplied with comfortable bed linen and towels. The kitchen is very well equipped and there’s a lovely terrace area with table and chairs where we took our breakfasts and dinners, as well as the occasional lunch. There is an excellent gas-fired barbecue (in immaculate condition) which we used each night that we were not dining out. The dining room and lounge are both very comfortable and there’s a TV with English Freeview channels as well as Netflix. WiFi is also included. Brantome is a beautiful town with many good bars and restaurants and we enjoyed walking there for a drink or a meal. We also visited the Abbey and undertook the not-too-perilous canoe circuit of the town, bravely navigating the weir, much to the amusement of onlookers. The Friday market is well worth a visit too. On our last evening we visited the on-site restaurant (kindly booked on our behalf by Helen) and enjoyed the best meal of our stay in beautiful and convivial surroundings. Helen was absolutely brilliant from our initial booking enquiry right through to our departure. She’s friendly, welcoming and efficient, always on hand but never intrusive. All in all we had a fantastic stay and will definitely be looking to return in a year or two.…
We spent 3 weeks in La Bruyere in July/August 2019. We have previously stayed in 4 other houses in Domaine de Brantome. On each occasion, Helen has managed our booking, welcomed us, and looked after us throughout our stay. She is amazing! From our very first contact with her, we knew we were in good hands. Not only is she warmly welcoming to all guests, she is also remarkably efficient. Nothing is too much trouble, and problems are sorted almost before you knew you had one. The Domaine is a very attractive development, cleverly designed so that each house has its own private terrace and/or garden area, with plenty of very well-maintained open grounds too. All the houses are extremely well presented, immaculately clean, beautifully furnished and decorated, but La Bruyere is really exceptional. It has 2 lovely double bedrooms, with plenty of storage in each. There are 2 bathrooms, each one with a generous sized shower. We really appreciated the good quality bed linen and towels provided. As an added bonus, a window in each bedroom has been fitted with a fly screen, so you can have it open at night without the fear of being eaten alive by mosquitoes! The kitchen is very well equipped, with very good quality appliances. From the kitchen you have direct access to the front terrace, which has a table and chairs and is an ideal place for breakfast as it is east facing. It can get a bit too hot there for lunch, but that’s not a problem as there is also a good sized garden area at the other side of the house. Here there are some tall lime trees which give you a choice of full or dappled shade on those very hot days (we had 41º one day!). There is also a table and chairs on this side, plus another table indoors, so you are spoiled for choice! The house is ideally situated, a pleasant 20 minute cross country walk from all the restaurants and shops in Brantome, or about 15 minutes by the main road, quite safe as there is a grassy verge all the way. If you get a rainy day there are dozens of books, DVDs, games etc and a huge selection of TV channels. The wifi coverage is good. There are several very good restaurants in Brantome. Our favourites are the Moulin de l’Abbaye (Michelin 1 star) and Hotel Restaurant Charbonnel. We have had wonderful meals in both, but they are quite pricey, so we only go there for special occasions. Of the more everyday restaurants, Restaurant Côté Rivière is very good. Le Saint Sicaire, across the river from the Charbonnel, does a tasty (if somewhat predictably touristy), good value menu. If you book in advance you’ll get a table overlooking the river. There are good supermarkets nearby (Carrefour and Aldi). For the more active, there are plenty of good woodland paths for shaded walks in the locality, and our cyclists were very pleased with the abundance of quiet cycling routes within a 50km radius. In summary, a superb house in a great location. We’ve already booked to go back next year!…
