We arrived with a large group on a 2 day hiking trip and were greeted by Kai Uwe, the director of the hotel, with fresh cold lemon water. We stayed on the terrace until sunset and had some nice drinks and little bites to eat (delicous bread!!) and just looked at the wonderful calming landscape. The dinner which was served was absolutely delicious, fresh local products, good wine, and we fell into the comfortable beds satisfied and happy. The breakfast next morning was also really good, and we started our hiking tour (via Juf to Bivio, very recommendable) strenghtened and in good spirits. Kai Uwe took excellent care of us throughout, and the standing applause we gave him and the cook after dinner was more than deserved. Very reasonable prices, too.

Family trip to this not touristic part of Switzerland to see Mörmeltieren. We’ve seen a lot of them and when we came into hotel restaurant Bergalga for lunch we were treated with respect and a lot of flexibility. Gluten free was no problem and the food was great. And a free electric vehicle charging point (incl Tesla).
A very nice experience! Repeat factor High!

Very beautifully located, simple and cozy hotel. The rooms are made of wood and are therefore very cozy. Although the furnishings in the room and bathroom are a bit old, everything is clean and functional. You don't need anything more.
We really appreciated the delicious dinner and the extensive breakfast buffet, everything from regional organic/Demeter sources.

I also appreciated the open communication/transparency that they hardly have any staff this summer, so there was only half board and breakfast only from 8:00 a.m., which is late for a hiking hotel, but very understandable under these circumstances, as the manager, Melanie Holdener, does everything herself at the front.

Actually a perfect hotel - if it weren't for the hefty price: for a simple double room for single use, without running water, with shared bathroom and half board, CHF 152 for one night is too much in my opinion! On Booking.com, that's the price in the Bergalga for single use in a room with toilet/shower, which is still a lot but would be OK. That's how much I pay elsewhere in the mountains for a room with shower/toilet for two people. A very confusing booking system, I thought I had chosen a much cheaper price for my friends and me, but I had misunderstood it.
Until 5 years ago I was often and regularly in Bergalga, still under the old management, mainly as a hiking guide, I didn't pay the overnight price myself and I wasn't really aware of how high the price was back then.

I was warmly welcomed in the cosy and functionally furnished Bergagla, with a beautiful view. The breakfast is plentiful, the evening meal with (Demeter) products from the region is good and also pleasing to the eye. There is a menu, alternatives on request. The terrace is also an inviting place to enjoy coffee and homemade cakes. All in all, guests are offered everything they need for their stay, even if the prices are rather high considering the simply furnished rooms.

We experienced unique beautiful hiking days in the Averstal, enjoyed the peace and quiet and felt completely welcome guests at the Hotel Bergalga. The contact with Melanie Holdener is uncomplicated and cordial and the food of Norman Karl first class and resourceful!
We would definitely come back.

My bitch Mina and I spent a great week in the Averstal and felt really at home at Hotel Bergalga. Everything fit for us - from the location of the hotel, our room with fantastic views, the food, to the warmth and attention of the team, including the four-legged friend. Conclusion - a hundred points and two woofs!
