Twenty seven years in the making and worked on by over 150 artisans, Juan Valiente aspires to be the ultimate Home from Home. Classified as a luxury country house, we are shameless in our search for your pleasure. You will be welcomed as honoured guests into an environment designed to rescue you from the cares of life and set you down in paradise. From the awesome location on the bend of a river surrounded by towering mountains to the hand made chocolates by your bed, we set out to nourish your senses. Unlike hotels with row upon row of numbered identical rooms, we cater for only fourteen people who together share in a collection of delights ranging from eating organic ice creams in our private cinema or reclining by our mineral water pool to Michelin star quality food accompanied by vintage wine from our bodega. Our commitment to your well-being reaches beyond the borders of our extensive gardens as we advise, plan and facilitate your exploration of the diversity of culture and landscape which the province has to offer. A place of serene delights with background music supplied by the wind in the trees, cascading water and birdsong, we also throw legendary parties and mini conferences. So if you are exchanging rings or a team planning strategy, let us pencil you in. Underpinning everything we do is an ethos, an essence. As hard to define as to create, perhaps that essence is "being human". So our food is physical, not intellectual, our rooms, intimate and named, the house hand made and visceral. When Isadora Duncan, founder of modern dance was asked why she danced, she replied " If I could tell you I wouldn't have to dance." So it is with Juan Valiente, a place whose ethos cannot be explained and must be lived. We look forward to meeting you.

My wife and I stayed for four nights at this fantastic hotel which is really a very welcoming luxury home. What more can we say that hasn’t been said by other reviewers? It is fabulous, the food is lovely, the facilities are excellent and the setting perfect. But most of all Laurence and Isabel are the most fantastic hosts and really helped us make the most of our stay with advise on where to go and what to see. We particularly enjoyed using the cinema room and watched a charming movie set in the local area (Al sur de Granada) whilst sipping our wine selected from the bodega. It is the real cinema experience with proper seats, popcorn, fizzy drinks and beer if you want it! Juan Valiente is a must if you are visiting the area, both for the quality of the hotel and the hospitality. Thank you Laurence and Isabel - we will be back!

Thank you guys! All clients are apparently right, though some are righter than others. You chaps were 100% right for Juan Valiente. Thank you for being such a valuable addition! Come back!

If you’re in the Sierra Nevadas this hotel is a MUST, even for one night. We happened upon it by chance online and what a fantastic night we had. It’s like nowhere we have ever stayed before. It is the owners’ own house, and they run it as a hotel alongside being a family home There is an actual cinema, a full sized professional snooker table, a bodega where you can go and select your wine, and the pool is to die for. No chemicals, and kept fresh by the mountain spring water that it is topped up with daily. If the weather lets you down there is a Tv showing every single channel in the world! Seriously ....over 3000 of them. You will feel like you’re a house guest invited for a luxury stay with a friend. Laurence, your host, will sit with you and chat, and go through the menu helping with choices, making each meal feel like a special event. You can get your own drinks and snacks, and it’s all done on an honour basis. Beware the bill at the end though! We had breakfast, lunch and dinner, and all were amazing. It’s not cheap....be warned, but for a treat, it was worth every penny.

We went in Sept last year and loved it so much that went back in the spring (May). We have never done this before. Such an eclectic house run by a delightful couple, in the most unusual and delightful setting. The house is moorish in appearance and like a riad inside. The stream gushes past, fed by the melt waters from the Sierra Nevada and the wild flowers were blooming - fabulous! All the rooms are different and the whole establishment is quite quirky & eccentric. But in many ways, the best part in the owner Laurence, who is delightfully eccentric - do try his special G&T!!. A final note, the food is served at a communal table, which is very sociable, cooked by the delightful Lola, and is delicious. To summarise: If there is a box to be ticked, then Juan Valiente, ticks them all. We SHALL return

Thank you young man for taking the time to write. You are good people and Juan Valiente is diminished by your parting! We hope you make good on your threat to return. As we say in Siberia, better not to have tics in your box! All the best from us all.

We wanted to celebrate our Anniversary by a visit to Granada and the wonderful Alhambra but didn't want to stay in the city. Juan Valiente was the perfect choice. Set up a no-through track through citrus orchards, between towering cliffs at the edge of the Sierra Nevada national park, it was still only 30 minutes from Granada and not much over an hour from Malaga airport. We booked late and only the 'family' room was left (which can be booked with the adjoining, playfully designed kids room). The family room was lovely, but we were given a free upgrade after the first night to 'Cascade' with its awesome jacuzzi. There are only 7 rooms in total and loads of comfortable terraces, balconies and snugs, so you'd never feel crowded. Owner Laurence designed the amazing building himself. I think it owes something to Escher - one almost expects the stairs to form a circle and water to run uphill! The water itself is lovely - straight out of the mountain - and also gives the chance to swim in un-chlorinated mineral water in the pool. That has its own pool house with stereo, barbeque and honesty bar, and Laurence served us lunch there when some local ex-pat friends visited. The food is excellent - not a huge menu, but imaginative and based on quality local ingredients. Possibly the best fillet steak I've ever had. And Isabel rose magnificently to adapting to the needs of my vegan wife. Though I aspire to be a wine snob, I was totally ignorant of most Spanish wines and felt well-educated by several sessions with Laurence in the cellar, and well-lubricated soon after. Oh, and I should mention the breakfasts - fresh squeeze-your-own oranges, still warm from the orchard; crusty bread still warm from the village baker. Above all, Laurence and Isabel made us feel personally welcome. Back-packs, straw hats and binoculars provided for walks in the mountains; long conversations by the log fire late into the night ranging from economics to cosmology. It's not often that you visit a hotel and hope the owner remains a friend and will visit us in due course.

My husband and I stopped at Juan Valiente for one night on a tour of the region. The welcome we received from Laurence and Isabel was so warm and friendly and they even had our names on a noticeboard in reception welcoming us. The house is amazing beyond words. It's incredible value for money to be able to spend a night in such a fabulous, beautiful property. It was like walking into a modern day castle with a feast of gorgeous furnishings and unique touches for the eye to revel on. From the breath taking atrium, the mosaic birds gliding up the stairwells and the huge windows giving a stunning view over the mountains and grounds. The property has everything you could have wished for from the well stocked cinema room with it's own free popcorn machine to the wine lovers cave of carefully thought out wines. Our room was perfect with a comfy bed, excellent shower and personal touches such as the handmade soap and chocolates. We chose to eat our dinner at Juan Valiente that evening and the food was perfection. I highly recommend the aubergine chips to compliment the vegetarian lasagne :) For us, the thing we most enjoyed was the fabulous hosting by the very lovely Isabel and the enchanting Laurence who added to this 5 star experience making it just perfect. We hope to return some day to Juan Valiente and were blown away by the experience! Thank you so much, Pip & Scott.

Why thank you kind people. The pleasure was mutual as what is a building without the finishing touch of people like you to stay. Hugs to you both from us both.
