Blue Zebra Island Lodge was our last stop on a wonderful tour of Southern Malawi from the UK. Having booked our trip in 2019 and had to rebook 4 times because of covid restrictions I had looked at photos on the hotel's website many times over the interim to boost lockdown morale! It actually exceeded my expectations which were very high! This was the best of Malawian hospitality. The service from all the staff members was exceptional. Everyone was really friendly The food was outstanding with original, imaginative and delicious choices and we enjoyed the cocktails including the special pink caipirinha! Our tented chalet- Cormorant was well appointed with beautiful views over the lake and a hammerkop nest by the entrance to the decking. The gardens are beautifully cared for. We found plenty to occupy us over our 4 night stay. We loved swimming in both the lake and the pool. The trails around and over the island are well maintained and give great access to nature. We were able to watch a red duiker just ahead of us on one trail and numerous birds and exotic (to us!) plants. We enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling - both from the beach and on a boat trip which we combined with a sundowner although the best sunsets we experienced were simply from the bar/pool area. Absolutely beautiful! Thanks to all the team Highly recommended…
I have just been lucky enough to visit Blue Zebra again, and this time with my daughter in tow. As was the case before the accommodation was superb, the food was excellent and the gardens and facilities were well-maintained and gorgeous. A really special place to relax and unwind - and if you are a bird-watcher, there is plenty to see.
Absolutely stunning von A-Z. I know most of the lodges in Malawi but this is a class on its own. I didnot expect so much beauty. Birds and lizards everywhere, fish eagles flying, and a great choice of accomodation types, from wild platforms over the water's edge to luxurious villas with world class views. Beautiful garden with hammocks but also wild footpaths with pure nature. Fantastic food, big portions and great choices also for vegetarians. Staff is delightful and organization worked on the minute. Really, I cannot think of anything negative. Lake Malawi can be rough but this adds to the fun of going there. 100 % recommendation, one of the best lodges and most beautiful spots of Malawi.
As a local, I can say with confidence that Blue Zebra never fails to disappoint. We often plan trips away but always come back to Nankhoma Island despite having a house on the bay. The staff are excellent and do their utmost to accommodate you, the food is wonderful and the setting is truly beautiful. Always a perfect getaway, always a memorable stay. Thanks again to the team for a wonderful weekend!
Another amazing experience at Blue Zebra from start to finish! Jen in reservations was fantastic and very accommodating with our constant changes :-)! Upon arrival, Ken welcomed us with a delicious mocktail and comprehensive briefing. It was great to see that Brian, the magician behind the bar is still creating delicious cocktails. My favorite was “The Otter”. The food is still exceptional. I had almost forgotten how good the fish tacos are… all the staff are well trained and friendly, and generally there is a great ambience. There are some nice new touches since I last visited, especially the new “sunset pool” and off the grid solar! And of course the stunning location is still the same :-) Thanks team Blue Zebra for another enjoyable stay!
We spent three perfect days here. It was our best place to relax in Malawi. We had the best and largest accommodation on the island. What more could we ask for. The staff, food, service were absolutely great. We hope to return someday ...
We just returned from a two night stay on the island with friends. The staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Meals were excellent and the kitchen catered well to my and my husband’s dietary restrictions. The kids (and parents 😁) all had a blast engaging in the various activities that were available. I HIGHLY recommend at least one visit to this gem of a vacation spot!
Wake to birdsong and the fall asleep to the gentle sound of waves. I give it solid marks for the hospitable service, friendly staff and res team, excellent f&b on offer, resort facilities, comfortable tents with views, heavenly spa overlooking masked weavers that frolic in the reeds and range of watersport activities. Also worth noting the res team are well-placed to offer support Ito PCR testing. The Blue Zebra is 100% a must visit when travelling to the warm heart of Africa, Malawi. A tranquil, island resort on the lake, twin-centred with a top river safari lodge like Tongole WR in the nearby Nkotakota Reserve.
Serenity at its best. Went for a weekend to cool off from a busy schedule and it’s exactly what I got. The place is a beauty, the rooms magnificent( I like that they are not close to each other), great food and drinks and amazing customer service. Best place to be when you just want to be close to nature and looking for some quietness.
We had an incredible 3 nights at Blue Zebra; what a magic place! Highlights included the absolutely delicious food, watching exquisite sunsets from the balcony of our secluded, beautiful room, an early morning kayak, and the friendly staff (Bryan at the bar is a champion cocktail maker!). Exceptional service and scenery all round. We travelled to a few places in Malawi (including Cape Maclear and Mumbo Island) and can confidently say Blue Zebra was the best!
