Welcome to the West Coasts funkiest, couple focused, quirky tourist park. With some of the worlds most beautiful and rugged coastlines Ross Beach TOP10 is situated on the edge of the Tasman Sea. “Absolute beachfront” doesn’t do this location justice! Set on 6 landscaped acres this is a purposefully designed RV park offering spacious, level, powered and unpowered sites and 11 quirky, up-cycled and converted shipping containers, or as we like to call them “ Pods”. Plus 4 Deo desic Glamping Domes. Opened this season. Each accommodation has been individually designed and all offer a great nights sleep. The Domes, the Maxi Apartment, Sunset Studio & Tui Studio Pods are fully self-contained, whilst the remaining Whanau Pod has full access to the communal amenities of camp kitchen, ablution block, and guest laundry. Come and experience their unusual amenity whilst being at one with nature.

Its serene location offers scenic sea views that create a peaceful retreat, celebrated by many. Loved the facility. Super clean, Showers were amazing. The music in the toilets was just a perfect touch!!! A pizza oven , a fire pit to roast marshmallows by the sea. . The container cabins are so well done ,and stocked with all you need after a long day traveling Honestly the best park I have stayed in at a very reasonable price and I can not wait to go back

This is the second time we have been welcomed at Ross Beach. The first time we had a motorhome site and this time we stayed in a self contained beach pod which at $140 p/n AUS was great value. The camp ktichen facilities are excellent as are the shower and toilets. The camp sites are are generous size and very private with suleage, water and power provided. The pod was lovely, with a deck facing the ocean and although there were two complete sides of glass, the foliage and blinds made it feel very private. I loved the coffee pot and gounds Sue. The QS bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were spotless, towels wonderful. A very well appointed and styled room. The only downside is when we walked on the beach we were attacked by sandflies, and probably something else got us in the room. Would have liked a screen on the slider.

Hi Carole, Thank you for the review. We’re so glad you got to try the container pods this time, great choice 😊. I agree screens would be great on the sliding doors, just got to find a retro fit system as these doors were never designed for screens! Sandflies can be a nuisance at this time of year. Hope to see you again should you find yourself on the west coast.

We were delighted with the cute 'tiny house' style unit looking out towards the ocean. Everything we could have wanted was available. The bed was super comfortable. The louver shutters had insect mesh so we had good night time airflow. The kitchenette was tiny but super well equipped.

We stayed here for one night passing through. The price is expensive for an unpowered tent site, as is usually the case with Top 10 campgrounds. The beachside location is nice. It was very windy when we were there, but there's a reasonable amount of shelter planting on the site so we were able to get a spot that wasn't too windy. The place seems to be mostly setup for campervans etc, not tents. Reception was friendly, everything was clean and the showers were great. The campground isn't right in the township itself but is close by.
The only downside, as noted by other reviewers, is the relative lack of facilities on site. There is a good clean kitchen but it isn't very large and there's limited seating. If the evening is cold as it was when we stayed, no one wants to sit on the picnic tables outside, so it's a fight for the small number of seats in the kitchen. The campground would benefit from another container with more seating for dining and relaxing. Also, there is only one toilet with a sanitary bin - it's a small thing, but the place really needs at least one more toilet with a bin, so you aren't forced to wait for that particular toilet to come free even when other toilets are empty.

Hi Whattosay, Thanks for your feedback - we absolutely agree that we need to increase the size of the campers kitchen and this is something we intend to enlarge in the coming months... shipping containers do have there challenges with size & shape, but I’m sure we’ll come up with a workable solution. Sorry you didn’t find the other sanitary facilities, there are 4 toilet cubical now with bins 😊 Glad to hear that you did enjoy your time here on what has been a particularly windy few days ! Take care, enjoy your holiday

The cabins at this awesome Top 10 were converted containers, all very private as each cabin was surrounded by native flax bushes. The cabins were laid out perfectly, really comfortable beds with a kitchenette and great showers, right on the edge of NZ’s Wild West Coast. The Hosts were amazing, to the extent of transporting us 2.5kms there and back to the local Pub for dinner

This motor camp is a great place to stay at Ross. It is slightly out of the township going south and where the main road turns left you need to go straight ahead towards the sea. It is situated by the sea. There are lovely people running it who are friendly and helpful and who have obviously worked hard to make the facilities so interesting and to keep the grounds looking amazing. The camp buildings are made of containers and it looks very cool. Everything was very clean and tidy. The kitchen was long and had several sinks and stoves and seemed to be equipped with plates and a toaster and a jug so that was a thrill to have toast for the first time on our trip.

This was a fantastic place to stay for our cycling group. Right on the beach front with cool container pods to sleep in, each set in secluded privacy. The modern kitchen and toilet shower blocks were impressively clean and there is a great barbeque area where you can cook and watch the sun go down. Awesome!

We stayed here on a typical wild West Coast day, but that certainly didn’t affect the positive experience we had at the Ross Beach Top 10. Staff were very friendly on our arrival, calling to check if we were still staying with the bad weather approaching. We stayed in a shipping container converted into a unit, it was certainly cosy on a rainy and windy night that we had! Park facilities were great, the shower/toilet block was especially cool blasting U2 music on a loop! The beach was just a stone’s throw from our unit and was worth exploring.
I’d love to come back here and explore more when the weather is fine!

This is definitely the most beautiful holiday park I’ve been to in NZ. I usually go to freedom camping but since there are not a lot around we took this holiday park instead. Mostly because of the reviews, and I can assure you they are true!

The location is very close to the beach, hence the name. You can park right in front of the sand that leads to the sea. The owners were very friendly. There are high plants all around the holiday park which contribute to getting some privacy. Since there were almost no other people it was very quiet and calm. I really liked the looks of the holiday park and the scenery of the beach and wild waves. On top of that we were told we could make a fire on the beach too 😁

The communal spaces and cabines are made out of containers and have a new and modern interior design. There is free wifi, nice clean showers/toilettes/kitchen. There is also an outside kitchen that offers a BBQ and pizza-oven. You can wash and dry your laundry (4$ each).

We paid 20$ pp for an unpowered site.

Of all the holiday parks I’ve stayed, this was by far the most beautiful one and I definitely recommend it.

Not as flash as other Top 10's but clean, well managed and good location. The other options in Hokikia are a bit woeful so this provides a good, clean stop over on a trip up or down the coast. You know what you are going to get with a Top 10 but do pay top $ for it. The beachfront van sites are good but seemed a bit much to pay the same price as a powered site for what was essentially a spot in a carpark!

Hi, Is it safe to swim in the sea in front of the holiday park? Thanks
Answer from Sue S
Ross, New Zealand3 contributions
Hi Josquick, I would generally say no, beware of the undertow and steep drop off from the beach. Having said this if you are here on a calm, flat ocean day, we have had guests swim😊 But as a rule of thumb the West Coast has some pretty wild seas! Hope this helps Sue
Answer from Sue S
Hi Lee, some of our containers do, others don’t. If you’d like a shower and small kitchenette in your pod please book any of the following; Sunset Studio Apartment Pod Maxi Apartment Pod Studio Apartment Pods All of these pods sleep a maximum of 2 guests. Hope this helps Kind regards Sue
