We booked the full package here, transfer to/from the airport, apartment with unlimited shore diving, and the rental truck. Betty in the US office took care of our booking and she was the nicest person you could ever chat with. She gave us great tips for our trip!

Upon arriving at the airport, we found our driver, Papa I think his name was, and he drove us to the apartments and even stopped at a convenience store on the way which was very helpful! At All West we met Roxy, the caretaker, and even though she was having a really rough day, she still had a smile and warm greeting, and put everything else on hold to show us around and explain the dive equipment room and all the facilities. She made us a priority in the moment, and it was very much appreciated.

The room was clean and well stocked with all the basics like towels and soaps, cookware / dishware, linens, and electrical outlets. I know that might seem silly to mention, but when you need to charge phones, tablets, cameras, dive lights, etc., the power strip and outlets provided really come in handy. Just know that it’s US style blade outlets, not Euro style prongs. There isn’t daily housekeeping services, so the extra stock of towels provided was most welcome and appreciated. But we found that Roxy always seems to pop up around the place during the day, should you need anything or have questions. She’s very friendly and helpful!

The dive equipment room is secured and has a rinse tank, hangers, and all the full cylinders you could possibly use (and more) ready to go (both DIN and yoke). Accessible from both the parking lot side and the beach side, it was convenient whether coming or going. Being directly on the beach, shore diving was just a staircase away and more convenient accessibility than anywhere else I’ve been.

The pickup truck was perfect for hauling gear and tanks all over the island for various shore dive locations. Just be aware they are manual transmission (stick shift). But if that’s not your thing, I believe they offer automatic cars as well. But if your a diver, and can drive stick, absolutely get the truck. Wet gear and tanks in the bed, no problems. Plus the nearest decent sized market we found in Barber is a bit of a drive, so having your own transportation is pretty much necessary in Westpunt.

And you can’t beat the location and view! Directly on the water, facing west, so from our balcony (with provided chairs, loungers, and table) we enjoyed the sunset view with privacy every night.

Guaranteed, our next visit to Curaçao we will be staying here again!

Thank you so much for posting such a complimentary and detailed review. You totally made Betty's day :) - and she looks forward to helping you book your stay again next year. BTW - your mentioning of the electrical outlets is NOT silly! That is exactly the kind of detail fellow travelers want to know! Though we try and cover all of the details in our Trip Planning documents, important details like this sometimes get overlooked. So thank you for making a special mention of that. All the best to you!

The best place for diving holidays. And a very good option to come down. The apartments are comfortable and very clean. They have all sea view and a huge balcony to start the day with an amazing view, exotic birds and curious Leguans. The storage room for the diving equipment is good organised and you can walk directly downstairs to the beach doing a reef dive or for snorkelling.

Outstanding getaway if you are a diver. On the Northwest shore away from the crowds. If u need service and luxury this not the place. If you love scuba diving. This Is The Place. Good rates. Onsite air and tanks. Dive shop 1/2 mile away. You can walk
50 feet from your apartment pick up your gear, get your tank and WALK another 50 feet down some steps and be in the ocean. Swim maybe 50 feet, drop to 20 feet, scuba another 100 feet and be on the reef. Reef starts at about 30 and quickly drops to about 150-200 feet. This allows an out and back trip at different levels. You can actually spend your whole dive on the reef.
Apts are clean with kitchen and AC. Tap water is excellent to drink. Each apt has a deck or patio with a sunset view as attached.
Tip. Buy groceries at one of the large supermarkets on your way from the airport.
Tip. Allwest rents cars and trucks. Do it. Many other dive sites near by.
Tip Ask for directions to Sunshines (owners name) Sol (something) is name of restaurant. Very relaxed. Plane to stay a bit. Great sunset.
Tip: Be sure to be back at the apartment before sunset in time to make your favorite sunset drink. Every night has a spectacular sunset

The All West Apartments are not fancy; however, if you are going to Curacao for diving, they are clean, reasonable, and have what you need. Each apartment also has an incredible view. The apartments have the following features that divers need:
* an exceptional house reef
* secure and well ventilated equipment locker
* outdoor rinse off shower for after diving
* rinse tank for equipment
* air tanks available on site
* close to a dive shop (Go West Diving)
* balcony for drying equipment, although it dries well in equipment locker
* kitchenette (for making a quick breakfast before going diving)
* walking distance to good restaurants for dinner

They do not have microwaves; however, we did not see any microwaveable dinners at the Centrum Market in Willemstad. If you grew up before microwave ovens were standard kitchen equipment, you know how to do without them. The stove works quite well. The fridge is large and you will want to stock up on food at the Centrum Market after arriving in Curacao. Have your shopping list ready and bring reusable shopping bags.

The apartments are completely air conditioned. If there are any issues with your apartment or if you need fresh towels, the apartment manager, Roxy, will take care of it.

The Westpunt area is a very quiet, pleasant, and beautiful area of Curacao. When not in the water, I enjoyed seeing and hearing all of the birds in the area.

My week at All West Apartments was one for the books.
My husband and I and two children (5 and 13) spent a week and it was just wonderful.
The apartment had all your basic necessities for cooking i.e pots, pans, toaster, coffee maker, utencils etc...
The stairs leading down to the beach really aren't a big deal, once down there you can just go snorkeling with the sea turtles off the shore or walk out and go shore diving.
There are great restaurants around and plenty of markets for food and drinks.
The rooms are clean and welcoming, and all the rooms beautiful ocean view.
I reccomend this location for families and divers.
And finally, you will never see a more beautiful sunset.

We couldn't agree more about the sunset! Just when you think you have seen THE BEST ONE EVER...the next night seems to top that one. There is something special added to the scene I think by the small, colorful fishing boats in the mix. We're so glad your family enjoyed their stay and shared your thoughts with others! Thank you.

I was very pleased with my apartment. Everything was clean, modern appliances and furnishings, well-maintained. Check-in and out were an absolute breeze, and the view from my balcony could not be beat! I was very happy with the experience, and will likely stay here again on my next trip to Curacao.

We decided to stay at All-West based on the two reviews here and a few others elsewhere.

We are divers and didn't expect elaborate accomodations or to be pampered. But we did expect the place to have the few eggs they have all in one basket... if you know what I mean.

The first two days we were without hot water. Why? Because they unplugged the electric water heater and failed to plug it back in before we arrived. Don't know if this is standard practice when they are at low capacity or not. Seemed strange to me... guess they were trying to save a quarter.

We went back to the nearest market (25 minutes away) to get a can of bug spray and bug repellent. I lost count of how many spiders we had to kill. I hate spiders... more than any other "bug". One spider had even spun a web onto my corner of the bed. Disgusting. The no-see-ums and mosquitos I expect to be problematic outside, but I was eaten alive during the night... then again it could have been the spiders.

One night when we arrived back to the apartment from dinner (El Ranchero is right down the road and highly recommended, as is I Love Jaanchie's) the power was out. I realize this is not All-West's doing and they had little control over when it came back on... which was 24 hours later. So no air now, and back to no hot water.

Another day "staff" from All-West had to borrow our rental car (which we rented from them) to take care of some business because one or two of their cars had broken down or some story like that. They said it would only be an hour... it took 2.5 hours. I guess that's why they call it island time and I missed a shore dive because of it.

There is still construction going on with the new addition... so there is noise during the day. That did not bother us as we were diving most of the day anyways. I only mention it because one review I read said they knocked off 20% because of it. We were not offered any discount while putting up with the lack of hot water, the power outage, or the car borrowing... let alone the noise.

Ocean Encounters West is the dive shop that works hand in hand with All-West Apartments. They were, for the most part, a very good op. We did have a small issues with no tanks being available at the apartments after the power outage so we had to rent tanks from another op... but the dive shop did remove the charge for unlimited shore diving for that day. Okke (sp?) the divemaster was great, very personable and funny. He has many stories to tell and are worth listening to. All of the divestaff were great and very friendly. One other thing to note, if you are planning to dive alot 4-5 times a day I would only schedule 1-2 boat dives with Ocean Encounters West as the the daily 2-tank boat dive goes from 9:30am to about 2:30pm... and one of the sites is 5 minutes from the dock. The captain of the boat is quite a character... non-stop talking which the divestaff rib him about. Oh, no Nitrox because they were out of O2. Irritating, but didn't change much.

Overall it was a good trip that could have been great if All-West Apartments can get there act together and pay attention to the smaller things. Lack of attention to detail is something that greatly irks me... like leaving the hot-water heater unplugged.

I would definitely, without a doubt dive with Ocean Encounters West, but would not stay at All-West apartments again.

My wife and I stayed for six nights at the All West Apartments in Westpunt at the north-western end of Curacao. All West rents apartments ($90 per night in August 2005) and somewhat smaller studios ($60). Our apartment was very spacious with a well-equipped kitchen/eating area/den, a living room area, and a bedroom with a comfortable king bed. The living room and bedroom both had glass doors to the spacious terrace that overlooks the sea, a stone’s throw away right below you. The bathroom/shower was well-lit and clean. Everything worked fine; the AC units (very, very quiet) were more than adequate to keep us comfortable. The big fridge held all our supplies for the week which we had picked up in the Centrum supermarket on the way from Willemstadt. Westpunt has no shopping facilities and only one restaurant.

Our goal was to dive and make the trip economical by not going out to eat. If you like Dutch and European cheeses, salami, bread, wine, and Amstel beer, this is the place! In the Centrum we had picked up pre-marinated meats for Nasi and Bami Goreng, just the kind of stuff after a night dive to fix in 15 minutes in the kitchen while writing the log books. Pick up some pineapple juice, a bottle of rum, and some cream of coco, and you can have piña coladas for pennies all week while enjoying a $1,000 view.

All West has its own dive shop on the premises—it doesn’t get better. From our terrace to the filled tanks it was maybe 20 feet—really! There were always filled bottles (Nitrox available if you ask for it), and we could use the shop to hang and store our gear. (Rental equipment is of course available). We were given a key to the shop and thus had 24-hour access—totally low-key and efficient. All West has another dive shop at Playa Kalki, five minutes by car down the road, at one of the finest dive sites we’ve seen anywhere, Alice in Wonderland. BTW, you do need a car if you want to shore dive; we rented from Budget, but All West can arrange car or truck rentals as well.

To shore dive from the apartments, you can walk about 25 steps down to the water. The house reef at All West is healthy, full of fish, and safe. During our dives we saw most of what one can reasonably expect to see in the Caribbean: lots of turtles, barracuda, lots of various types of eel, lobsters, squid, a spotted eagle ray, a sea horse, schools and schools of fish, and, and, and. The boat dives are OK, but, quite frankly, if you feel comfortable shore diving you might as well apply the $60 for a two-tank boat dive and buy yourself ten tanks for shore dives.

The staff at All West was the way we like them: Honest and friendly, never pushy or over-bearing. For much of the time we never saw owner Louis or Bea, a young German woman who helps out with running part of the show during the summer. The dive shop folks were laid-back yet attentive. We never felt crowded by anyone—if you like to get away from it all, this is the right place. Mind you, this is not a Breezes or five-star resort—you won’t be pampered by anybody, so don’t expect it.

Occupancy during our stay was relatively low as this was shoulder season at best. Still, a few other divers were around, yet things were quiet and peaceful. Expect mainly Dutch or German tourists during this time as the Americans appear to come during the much busier winter months.

Nice bonus at All West: There is no-cost wireless internet access, if you want to stay in touch with the folks at home. There have been some server problems for All West in the past few months (hey, that’s island life), so service may be spotty, and sometimes the All West website is down, too—don’t blame the owners.

That the staff cares about the guests became obvious when we “checked out,” or rather chatted with Bea about our stay and casually asked about the bill. We were given a 25% discount because of construction next door. (All West is adding a few more apartments that, if everything goes according to plan, will be ready for guests in January 2006.) One afternoon we had heard some construction noise, but honestly, we didn’t feel in the slightest bothered by that. Most of the time there were some locals on the site, working with shovels on the foundation ditches. We had not complained about the construction, yet All West without prompting gave us a 25% discount. It’s that kind of attitude that will leave a lasting impression on a guest.

For whatever reason, Curacao does not have the same reputation as a diving destination as Bonaire. We had been to Bonaire and Aruba before and found both somewhat overrated. Curacao, on the other hand, is one of the best dive destinations that we have been to in our ten years of diving in the Caribbean, and we can only very, very highly recommend it. If you are looking for a home away from home that presents a superb value, check out the All West.

From arrival at Hato airport all stress is removed - from being greeted at the airport to getting back to the airport upon leaving. It felt like home away from home ( without all the stress). Upon arrival we were escorted to our rental truck - our gear loaded then taken to the market for supplies, (remember to bring your own bags for groceries) then off to Westpunt. If you are looking for a peaceful get-a-way, unlimited shore diving, no crowds then this is the place. Who needs a pool when you have an ocean steps away from your door. If you dont dive there is still plenty to do, from snokleing to nature tours/walks within a short distance.

The apartments are well appointed for cooking and such, there are no microwaves, so be prepared to cook/reheat the old fashioned way. We rented a one bedroom of which was perfect , the beds were very comfortable the air con worked super when needed, we had no problems with hot/cold water. They do have grills available for use of which we used often. Would suggest to bring - zip lock bags ( bit of issue with ants but it is anywhere if you leave food out). Outlets are plenty in room for charging and are based on USA plug type - WIFI is/was available and had no problem with it when I chose to stay in touch. There is a small book shelf in the dive shop/office for exchange, as there are no T.V.'s in any of the units. I did bring a DVD player but never turned it on.

Diving: Gear/storage is on site - open room with rank/buckets for gear, with hangers, power strip for battery charging etc. room is generally locked, however you are supplied a key for 24/7 access. ( we took our gear back to our apartment - personal choice) Tanks plentiful - average fill 2800/3000 psi - If tanks run out you can go to Playa Kaliki a bit down the road to get tanks ( same dive operation). I can not comment on boat dives ( we did exclusive shore diving on this trip just due to sheer convenience). If you have a large group - please make prior arrangments with dive shop for extra tanks - we had a group of rude 10+ divers that slept in and missed the boat so needless to say they took all tanks 20+ or so at ALL WEST without advising anyone at the dive shop for replacements - rest of us were a bit surprised/pissed when we were ready for diving and had to drive to pick some up and advise shop for replacements. ( you know who u are if you read this).

Dive comments - house reef - as local fisherman pier/dock is next door . boats are mooredin front of All West which makes for relatively easy navigation in/out. Reefs are healthy at the 35' + mark. The shallows did sustain damage from Omar - reefs like most of the caribbean lack alot of big stuff - however were surprised by spotted eagle rays. large balloon fish, many many squid, barracudas. The usual suspects always present of various eels, spotted, golden & greens. Many juveniles in various stages. Currents were relatively went un-noticed at depth on most dives, but when current was present often did it switch direction mid dive. many options for profiles right out in front from 30' to ??? reef is a gradual slope that end out at around 100-105' (33-35m)give or take to the N.W. however a double reef system that seems to go on to abyss - my dive buddy went to 150' (46m)and didnt see an end. Water temps averaged in January 80-83F ( 26/27C) but just for safety would still recommend a wet suit - ( one dive @ playa Kaliki) I did feel stings on my face, put on vinegar after the dive)

Driving: - drive on RIGHT so no problems for us but roads are a bit narrow based on USA standards. Most areas marked for speed limits. However, watch out for roaming goats they can and do just run out in front of you, so best be alert when driving.

Westpunt is said to be out in the country to island standards of which is a perfect place to be away from the cruise (pod people) and crowds. We are already planning 3 weeks for next year.

My husband, nephew and I just returned from a two week stay at Allwest Apartments. Allwest was wonderful. I must admit to having some concerns after reading the most recent review. Our experience was great.

The second floor apartment was spacious, and clean. Two rooms had sliding glass doors onto a balcony that looked out over the sea where a small fleet of local fishing boats are moored. The bedroom was large with more than adequate closet space. The bed was more comfortable than usual for a hotel. The “living/dining room” was nicely furnished with a fold out couch, dining room table and another big closet. Across the small hall was a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and stand-alone shower. We never had a problem with the hot water (three adults showering sequentially). The electricity was out one evening but was on again by morning. This was nothing Allwest could control as the power was out over the whole town.
On the first floor were several grills. We often spent the evening grilling fresh fish while talking over the day’s discoveries with fellow divers.

There was a secure dive room where there was always a supply of filled tanks, hangers for wetsuits and BCs, storage bins for other dive equip and a large fresh water rinse tank. The house reef is great for night or early morning dives. Lots of eels, puffers and usual suspects of reef fish.

I never got bit by any insects. In the two weeks, I swept out a few ants (probably attracted by cookie crumbs) and dealt with one spider. Louis and the staff at Ocean Encounters West (the dive shop handles paperwork for the apartments) were always pleasant and helpful.

Westpunt is a rural area. If you want the services of a concierge, casinos and swinging nightlife, stay in Willemstad. If you want a comfortable place to call home temporarily, great diving, peace and quiet occasionally interrupted by a rooster’s crow, it doesn’t get better than Allwest.
