We had the wonderful opportunity to spend three nights at the Ginterhof guest house while on a two month European vacation. I can see why most of Annalies' guests have been coming, along with their families, for decades...and stay for a week or two, sometimes twice a year...it truly is that special. We could have happily spent much longer there and would have been lucky to do so. We very much enjoyed meeting the other guests and their families who have been coming for 40+ years. We arrived at Hotel Gintherhof the day after Easter, so it was Easter vacation for much of Austria and Germany, which explained why there were so many people on the highway and long lines all the local tourist sights this time of year. Knowing all this now, I realize how truly lucky we were to have booked our charming room (fortunately we booked months ahead). Late April is a beautiful time of year here...all the trees and spring flowers are budding and blooming....fields of wild flowers are everywhere...it couldn't be prettier everywhere in the surrounding area. All the people we met in the small town of Ehenbichl, Austria are so lovely and charming (especially Annalies and her lovely family)...it has renewed my faith in humanity. Hotel Ginterhof is actually an 800 year old alpine dairy farmhouse that has been owned by the same family since the mid-1500s. Innkeeper Annalies Paulweber is truly a sweetheart, as are her parents, her husband, and her 12 year old daughter. Our room, right at the top of the stairs was truly adorable...I felt like I was staying at "Heidi's" home, from the old-time story book. Everything was spotlessly clean and so very comfortable. I especially loved how Annalies folded the comforters on our beds into a big heart upon our arrival. Moreover, we were immediately invited, upon arrival, to have a seat in the dining room and enjoy some homemade cake and tea...a tradition that takes place each afternoon. Annalies also immediately made a dinner reservation for us for that evening at the Hotel Maximillian, just a short walk down the road (no reservation was really needed, but the food was so good there, we ate there EVERY night!). Breakfast each morning, included in the per person price of the room, was just wonderful. All the breads are freshly baked, eggs cooked to order, so many lovely cold meats, cereals and fruits. Annalies even recommends you make sandwiches to take with you along your day's journey for lunch. It's like staying with family...and with the Alps all around, it just couldn't be more beautiful. Of course, you will need a car to get there (and there is a parking area on the property). Other than that, the only other possible downside might be for people who have trouble navigating stairs (there is no elevator)....but aside from that, you certainly won't find a more special place to stay. We highly recommend it and we very much look forward to going back.

When we arrived, Annalies greeted us warmly and helped carry our bags to our room. The room was beautiful, spotless and full of light. She invited us into the breakfast room for tea and cake. She gave restaurant recommendations. She checked on our plans for the next day and breakfast was ready the next morning. Breakfast was expansive and tempting--breads, meats, cheeses, eggs, yogurt, cereal ... Annalies also had us make a sandwich to go. The room was thoughtfully arranged. Her parents, Rudis and Crystl, visited and made sure were were fed and happy. They introduced us to guests from Germany and Russia. Annalies made sure we sat with the German couple who spoke English. We felt like part of their family. We love it so much that we stayed twice on this trip! It was nice to have a welcoming place to stay. We stayed in a different room which was also wonderful. We were sad to leave. The quiet beautiful house is in a quiet scenic village.

I don’t often write TA reviews, but the Ginterhof deserves it. We have never stayed somewhere that the hosts were so kind, welcoming, and accommodating. They went out of their way to welcome and assist us from the minute we arrived. By far the best hosts we have had in all of Europe. Room was comfortable and nicely appointed. Breakfast was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. Six stars! Seven stars! Also Gay-Friendly (we are a married same-sex couple from the US)

We only stayed three nights here; stay longer if you can! My family of five were so sad to leave. We spent a month in Europe and this was the highlight of our trip. Annelis and her parents are so warm and friendly. Afternoon tea, coffee and cake is delightful (my son said "you should make cake everyday, Mommy". Breakfast is even more delightful. The breads and meats offered for to-go lunch hit the spot. The beds were so cosy and the views of the Alps, amazing. I can't say enough good things about this place. Annelis directed us to a wonderful hike in the Alps. I enjoyed talking with her each day. We would love to go back!!!! The Hotel Maximillan, a two minute walk away, will do your laundry and serves an excellent dinner. As an aside, our visit to the "Kings' Castles" was the least favorite part of our stay. It was so overrun with tourists. The hiking and luge ridges in and around Reutte, and staying in such a quaint locale were the highlights. I wish we had hiked instead of compete with the crowds at the castles. We were so glad we decided to stay in Reutte instead of Fussen. Thank you, Annelis. Next time, we will come to ski!

The proprietor, Annelies, was so warm and welcoming that it felt like we had gone back home. She was so helpful and answered all of our questions. The breakfasts in the charming dining room were delightful. Our rooms, in what is really a home, were great. We had heard that it was a working dairy farm, but it was not until the last morning when we were packing the car to leave that we saw Annelies and her visiting nephew get the cows out from their stalls under the house and herd them over to a nearby pasture. The area is gorgeous and we saw several fascinating sights, but this guest home added a great layer of pleasure to it all.
