My boyfriend from England and I stayed for a couple of days in January and we couldn’t have had a better experience relaxing at this amazing lodge. The owners were amazing and helpful! We enjoyed kayaking, reading at the hammock, swimming and nice walks. Highly recommended!

A Mountainbike paradise, surrounded by trails for all skills levels.
We were amazed to find this gem, so close to Santiago. Beautiful sceneries and located next to the lake. Perfect place to relax, and disconnect from the city noise.
We were fortunate to be guided by Cristian, owner and PMBI instructor, that along with his family have been developing the area since he was a kid.
We closed the day with a cool beer at the pool and talking about the session around a campfire.
Thanks for such a great weekend.
We’ll come back for more soon!

In March 2012 we spent a weekend at Chez l"Habitant. We enjoyed the warm welcome and the trekkings our guide Jantine made with us. During the trekking she gave us a lot of information. After this we could rest at the swimmingpool or in the hottub, while enjoying a wonderful view over the lake. The day ended of course with a BBQ on the terrace. Jantine and Christian, thank you for your hospitality and the great weekend. Great price-performance ratio. Ed.

I had a horrible experience because I went to do a yoga retreat that was nothing special and they charged me a package for yoga, food and lodging of $240,000 (I paid them cash on top!) from Friday to Sunday. I decided to stay one more day and they made me pay $260,000 more for one day and they told me that it was for being in a single room but there were several people with single rooms and they were not charged anything! unfortunately I found out later and the owner told me that he was going to give me a "price" this is a shameless robbery. I sent them a message to be refunded and they didn't even reply. care! I do not recommend this place, I consider them abusers and not very honest.

Last month I visited this spot along with two friends. We were referred by a local, and yet again, the locals always know the best spots. We did have some trouble finding the spot--but our mistake led to a great story involving the words peligroso and dam. When we got back on the right road, we did have some questions about if this was indeed the right road--but luckily it was. Once we got to Chez l'Habitant, we were immediately welcomed and made to feel at home.

This was a great place to have a few days to relax, do some outdoor activities, and drink pisco sours in the hammocks. Also took a nice dip in the wood cask hot tub. The owners were very welcoming and even put together a trek for us when their nature guide was out of town. We got to walk to a beautiful water fall and talk to our guides--learning a lot about Chile.

Great place to kayak, trek, mountain bike......etc.....

I chose this place to take my boyfriend on his birthday getaway, as a gift. I looked at every picture and review of the place and it looked wonderful. The cabins are expensive, but the place seemed worth it. It really was NOT. When we arrived, the lake had no water. Forget kayaking or the beautiful lake views that are advertised on their website. It was a view of the apocalypse.
I understand that this is a problem for the owner and it is a shame. But I felt totally ripped off. Before you come here MAKE SURE THE LAKE HAS WATER. Otherwise it's just a regular place to stay at, with a sad view, yet very expensive. I felt I did not get what I paid for, not even close.
We decided to go hiking, thinking that even if the lake was not there, there must still be beautiful sights, but we found it depressing. Lots of trash and lots of planted pine trees (instead of the native forests which have are becoming scarce in this area). We found this really creepy doll in a trashy area on our trek... it was memorable in a bad way.
I told the owner how I felt about the place and that it was definitely not as advertised, and asked him why he did not warn me the lake had no water when I called for information. Why does he not have a "low season" price or say anything about the fact that the lake could be like this. He said that he didn't want people not to come (I understand, but it's wrong to deceive people also). Then he basically said it was the fault of the people from Santiago, implying that since I was from Santiago I ought to pay his high prices for his missfortune or something. Come on. When we left I asked for a discount, he offered 15% and I sincerely, calmy, respectfully, said I was thinking more like 20% (on a bill for about 400 US for just 2 nights in this place) and then... he made fun of me! It was humiliating, he even asked me what my last name was and made a really racist joke about what my last name might be, implying I was cheap. I was so shocked I took the 15% discount and left. I will never, ever go back to this place. I understand it must be hard for the owner to deal with his situation, but it's no reason to rip off your guests and be rude to them.
I have traveled all over the world and I have never written a review like this before. I hope I never do again.

Our travels in Chile took us up the Maule River and to Alto Vilches to hike. Chez L'habitant was our base and chosen by a travel agent, without a good look at the roads connecting us to our trekking destinations. It is along and circuitous route, since there is no bridge connecting the north and south sides of the Maule until Talco. However, the hotel is a delightful place and the Riquelme family are warm and welcoming. The lodge sits above Lago Colbun with amazing views and comfortable decks and lounging areas. The food is excellent; service quick and friendly and they will assist with any questions about the area or activities. The rooms are good - somewhat hot during high summer - but clean and comfortable. More facilities are being added to accommodate campers, along with the hotel facilities. We were helped immensely by the guidance of our hosts to show us a route across the river that passed through private property (a quarry) for a 2000 CP fee ($4.00) but that saved at least 100 km of driving on dusty gravel roads.
A delightful place to relax and worth a visit.

A small oasis on the steep south bank of one of Chile's largest reservoirs supplying 1/3 of Santiago's electrical power.

What stood out?

With temperatures soaring in the 90s F/ 30s C +, Chez l'Habitant had the perfect combination of shade from ample vegetation and slight breeze coming off the lake to feel super relaxed and in total vacation mode.

The food was exceptional. We ordered a pizza and it was far and away the best one we have had in Chile. Fresh ingredients plucked from the garden just for our meal - can't get any better than that!

The service was friendly and hospitable and made us feel at home, instantly.

They practice eco tourism much more consciously than most other Chilean outfits who think that using kayaks instead of fumes emitting jet skis.

A little more challenging is the 6 mile/ 10 k dirt road to get there. Doable in any vehicle but not the most comfortable ride.

The only downfall with being on a reservoir is the ever changing water level, depending on Santiago's energy demands. When the lake is full, it's gorgeous, when low, it takes some of the luster away.

Nevertheless, Chez l'Habitant also does trekking and excursions so you can check out other areas than just the lake.

Dear Benedict, Thank you very much for sharing this comment with other travelers and appreciate the effort that we make the whole team of the lodge to have good ecological practices. We make a great effort to provide the best service but also with quality in our products, that is why the vegetable garden is a fundamental part of our concept. We have improved the facilities and acquired new land to preserve the native drora, here you can make small trips between native vegetation. We also have new rooms always with the rustic touch that characterizes us. We hope we can come back, great greetings from everyone at Lodge Colbún
