The stunning chateau will surprise you upon a closer look. Peter and Johan are avid art collectors and the chateau is exquisitely furnished with the most eclectic decor, art, and objects. Everything is super modern, clean, comfortable, and the pool is a perfect addition to relaxation while in Chablis. Their dinner offerings were really top notch too. Perhaps one of the best features of this stay was Johan’s huge smile, hospitality, and vast knowledge of the area. Definitely bike to Chablis on market day and enjoy all the delicious wines of this region. Loved it all!!
We stayed at the chateau for a long weekend in July and used it as our base for exploring the Chablis wine region. The chateau is wonderful and had all the facilities we needed during our stay. We stayed in one of the rooms in the main house, which was lovely & spacious. The owners were also very friendly and helpful. We spent some time enjoying the pool each day and also ate at the chateau on two nights. The food was lovely and as there was only a pre-defined set menu to eat from for dinner, this actually meant we tried dishes we might not normally order in a restaurant. It was also nice to eat outside on the terrace by the pool. We ate out in Chablis at Fill Au Zinc one night as well, which was also a great experience. Breakfast again was very nice with a great selection of bread/cheese/fruit and choice of eggs cooked to order. The hosts and staff could not do enough for us during our stay, and whilst it may not have all the facilities or services of a 5 star hotel, it certainly felt like a 5 star experience. The owners took time to talk to all the guests and offered advice on where was worth visiting in the local area. We visited quite a few local villages in the area, including Chablis on market day. Definitely worth a trip if you want to pick up some local cheese/meat/bread/fruit. The local cherries were amazing! We also spent half a day exploring the vineyards on an e-bike tour that we rented from Chablis. Really great way to see the vineyards and allows you to stop off to do some wine tasting. Definitely would love to return one day when next visiting the Burgandy region.…
The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. A lot of attention for the small details that make the stay special. Loved having breakfast outside in the beautiful garden. Above all Johan made us feel so welcome and so much at home
The Accommodation Close to Chablis, only 90 minutes from Paris, Château de la Resle, a member of “Design Hotels”, is a stunning destination for a few days in the French countryside. The Château is more than a luxury hotel: hosts Pieter and Johan ensure that it is a “home away from home” experience with a private yet informal ethos. The accommodation is stunning, whether staying in the poolside Vezelay suites located in the old farm building, or as we did, in the expansive Saint Bris Suite-a short climb up a spiral staircase underneath the slate roof of the Château, with beautiful views on all sides. Our air conditioned suite had a spacious bedroom, separate living room, luxurious bathroom and fully equipped kitchen with comfortable furnishings, tasteful artwork and up to date technology; the Marshall Bluetooth speakers are fabulous! Food and Drink The hosts have had years of experience in the food business, and their passion for quality cuisine with great ingredients and flavours is more than evident. Breakfast is served every day in the former summer salon of the Château; a terrific selection of bread, pastries & home made patisserie. Eggs are prepared to order and cereals, honey and seasonal fruit are always available. At lunchtimes, we headed to Chablis to buy a selection of wonderful French produce and then enjoyed an al fresco poolside sharing meal; freshly baked breads, charcuterie & cheese, olives & anchovies, crevettes & celeriac remoulade, the list of delicious treats goes on and on. But our personal favourite was the Salade du Pêcheur, a creamy potato salad with chunks of tuna and black olives. On Sunday we attended the regular weekly market-a gastronomic assault on the senses. Quite simply an incredible foodie paradise, and we bought some fragrant Poivre Sauvage which was rich with aniseed notes, from Tsarazara Chantale of “Vanilla Sava”, to bring home. Each evening, we enjoyed dinner poolside from the Restaurant Art De Table in the old Château farm. Using organic and seasonal herbs, vegetables, meat and seafood, everything is locally sourced and prepared freshly on site. We sampled the Saturday Gastronomic dinner, the Sunday Super Food selection, and we had the pleasure of our hosts joining us on Monday evening for Burgundy cuisine. All dishes were beautifully prepared and presented, and absolutely delicious. The Artwork Although Château de la Resle is renowned for its boutique hotel luxury, the charm, personality and unique style of this well-loved private home is enhanced by Johan and Pieter’s personal collection of contemporary art and design. Oozing good taste, this extraordinary collection attracts fellow connoisseurs from around the world. The hosts have been acquiring beautiful, contemporary pieces for many years, and every corner of the ivy-wrapped château, including the nine elegant rooms and suites, showcase these exclusive artworks. It was a pleasure and privilege to share, experience, and enjoy this outstanding collection. Jean-Marc Brocard Domaine We spent an idyllic morning exploring the Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard located in the vineyards, on top of a hill, near the 15th century St. Claire church. The wine tour is a must during a stay in Chablis. The panorama of the entire vineyard is stunning and Sebastian’s cellar tour was fascinating. And as for the wine? The tasting experience was informal, informative and we were treated to seven exceptional wines from the vineyard, accompanied by delicious quiches and Gougères. We couldn’t resist buying a bottle of The Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots, from grapes which take root on a very steep slope, catching the early morning sun, a unique characteristic which results in a powerful wine with an equally unique attack on the palate. Very mineral in style, this harmonious wine is buttery, with toasted salty, floral notes. Noyers-sur-Serein In the heart of Burgundy, the Medieval city of Noyers-sur-Serein, classified among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", combines remarkable architectural heritage with the pleasures of a living city. There are half-timbered houses, ashlars, pillars and pinnacles. There are a lot of lanes and small squares made of chalk and granite pavements, and the river Serein twists and turns through this pretty fairytale town. Noyers is a magical place where modernism and naïve art can be found juxtaposed with beautiful Medieval architecture.…
I absolutely loved my stay at the Château. The hosts were welcoming and friendly, as were all the staff. Breakfast and dinner were provided and the food was excellent. The dinner is a set menu which I enjoyed trying new dishes and flavours that I might not order in a restaurant. The rooms had everything you’d need from a mini bar, coffee machine, towels, robes and shampoo / shower gels. I had the best sleep staying here, it’s so peaceful and serene. We visited a local market and vineyard and ate lunch in the nearby village. If you need some time out to relax, savour really good food and enjoy chatting to the hosts and other guests by the pool then I cannot recommend this Château enough. Already looking forward to my next visit.
it is a wonderful hotel ... but you have to do what the owner says ! Am I in holiday or in army ? If you smoke, it is very difficult to smoke even if you are outdoors! The owner was disturbed. The breakfasts are good..the hotel is nicely furnished..but they are not polite at all.
We absolutely loved our stay at Château de la Resle. What Johan and Pieter have created is truly magnificent. The interior design is bold and unique unlike anything we have seen in many of the other Design Hotels we have stayed at over the years. Through their personable service and attention to detail it felt more like a stay at a friends (incredible) house rather than a hotel. The pool and spa area are lovely and perfect place to relax. We will definitely come back.
We loved our stay, the welcome from Johan and brief morning conversations were a great way to find out about the area. Johan is very knowledgeable regarding the surrounding areas and villages and his restaurant recommendation's never failed to deliver. If you want a city envioroment/town centre location this isn't the place to stay, if you want solitude, peace and be close to Chablis and Auxerre then this place ticks the box. Unfortunately the rain didn't cease during our time here, which is a great excuse(as if we needed one) to come back again in the summer.
We had a great stay at the Chateau. The property is beautiful and the rooms are super nice (we had three adults and the suite on the top floor). The hosts are so hospitable, helpful in local recommendations and decorated the home with beautiful art inside & out. I already want to come back in the summer to enjoy the grounds and pool more!
What do you get when you mix a beautifully restored chateau, 5 star accomodation, an incredible art collection, super cool decorations and a very cool host? Chateau de la Resle! We absolutely loved our stay here. To add to the experience the breakfast is delicious, morning walks around the property were a highlight and the time we spent by the beautiful pool in the sun drinking wine topped it all off. Thanks Johan for making our trip. We will be back for my 40th! Sarah and Christin.
