We stayed at 500 Rai during our trip to Khao Sok National park and we loved it. The location is incredible and you'll have a perfect view over the lake during sunrise. The moto of the place is disconnect to reconnect and we really felt it.
Lovely place, great staff and by far the best place if you're looking for a unique experience in Khao Sok. They provide free kayaks and you can enjoy swimming in the lake or in their shared pool.
There's plenty of activities you can book and do daily to have a full experience of the place.

I was looking forward to staying in this hotel during my trip to Thailand. The view did not disappoint me. The property however did in the sense that this was the most expensive hotel in Kao Sok lake. They describe in the website that it;'s all about "Disconnect to Reconnect" and do not provide free WiFi apart from 2 hours per day. They also do not allow you to bring any sort of food with you. In my opinion both are issues that clearly are designed to make you spend more money at the property as you can buy Wifi and for the food, I get it but my son is Vegan and had a very hard time finding suitable dishes. I also noticed that many clients were bringing their own food anyway. The room was very (very small) had no closet and no Tea/Cod=ffee facilities. So I believe it is overpriced for what it offers. The most serious issue for me however was the activity we bought from the hotel. We chose the River Fall tour and it was designated as an EASY activity. It is NOT. From the very start you need to climb out of the boat onto a slippery ground with rocks. Hiking all the way to the top is very challenging and requires strength and a good physical status. I have been a skier for many years, have strong legs and work out on a weekly basis yet I still fell 2-3 times, hurt my knee and after 2 weeks it is still inflamed. So NOT an Easy activity.

We had a lovely, relaxing break, thank you 500 Rai.
Arrival - warm welcome after a beautiful 1hr 15mins long tail boat ride to the resort. You can only take light luggage, but bigger luggage can be stored at the pier. 500 Rai have their own office at the pier.
Staff - Everyone was so helpful and friendly. It was smiles all around and they cannot do enough for you. Thank you!
Rooms - We had a villa and the views were incredible. We were so happy, and very lucky with the weather during our stay. You get 1 hour WiFi per person, per stay. Electricity and air conditioning is 24hours. Each room has its own kayak tied up outside ready for you to use whenever you like. Sitting on the veranda with a cocktail, watching the stars is a great end to an evening.
Service hours - Due to the chilled nature of the experience, last orders for food is 7.30pm, and the bar shuts at 8.30pm.
Food - Was a bit hit and miss for me personally. Breakfast was amazing. I found the cuts in the chicken dishes too fatty, but the veg dishes were better in the main menu. The prices are more expensive (not unreasonable) than other resorts in Thailand, but this is to be expected as you are a captured audience and they have ship in the supplies.
Family vs Couples - If you are looking for a quiet place for couples this may not necessarily be for you. It is not adult only, so you have to expect families, and most were families during our stay. The issue is that there is only 1 space as the restaurant/bar, so while you are eating your evening meal, children are running from the pool, through the restaurant, to the fish or to their parents. You cannot avoid this as dinner is only served between 6.00-7.30pm. Most children were well behaved, but not all. It would be great if there was a small space for couples.

We spent a couple of nights at the 500rai and frankly we will never return. Their website is talking about “a luxurious experience” but we are VERY far from anything luxurious at 500Rai! Our “Deluxe” villa was at a 2 star level at best. Very old furnitures, broken faucet, no hot water, very uncomfortable beds … I’ve chosen this resort as it was one of the few in Khao Sok with AC in the room but our unit was not really working and our room temperature was often higher than outside! Some easy things could also be done to improve the “villa” like a couple of shelves in the bathroom (toilet bags have to be put on the floor with shower water going all around!) or a door knob on the doors going on the lake side (we could have easily broken one finger trying to open that door with no knob or handle from the outside!). The food is average at best and prices are quite high compare to other lodging in Khao Sok. We travelled across Thailand many times and considering the rate we paid, we are not far from a scam. That said, everyone was very nice and friendly and the view in the lake is truly fantastic.

Had a chance to stay in “500 rai” for 2 nights. 2 families with kids. Stayed in family suites. It was our 3rd time on a lake.
1) Hurt my leg, got huge hematomas on my thigh. The floating platforms on the balconies tend to submerge. At the same time they are super slippery, because of greens on it. Be super careful when you step on it, it’ll submerge and then you may slip and hurt your legs. If you do so, don’t expect a compensation from hotel. Also, please pay attention at kayaks: 2 out of 4 of our kayaks had water inside which results in very risky submerging after you get in.
2) Don’t expect any good service in this place. Unfriendly stuff, weak English, no room cleaning.
3) Prepare to eat pretty simple thai food. They have breakfast, dinner and launch included: few simple dishes. Food level is lower than in any simple restaurant ashore. Coffee machine on the breakfast serves only instant coffee. Fruits choice was no more than 2 types of fruits at a time.
4) Lake is a good place to stay away from the Internet and relax. However, if you need to be online, get ready to pay 1500 baht per day for the wifi.
Comparing to the other lake hotels where we stayed before (they cost ~2 times less) the food, service, activities here are worse. Things which were better in “500 rai”: the view, good A/C in the rooms.
All-in-all the high price-tag doesn’t mean a nice experience, probably because there are not many hotels on the lake, so they can charge whatever they want. I’d not recommend staying here.

We stayed one night from the 12th of May to 13th of May. We booked directly via their homepage. The price was 18.000 BAHT for 2 people including transfer, breakfast and dinner and two tours. Price Performance ratio is questionable. Breakfast and Dinner was pretty bad. The evening wildlife watching tour was very nice, but the one in the morning was just ok, because we were just waiting for people to take there instagram-pictures and didn't really pursue the wildlife watching. Please note, that bathrooms are of course simple at this resort. On the drive back to the shore we stopped at the famous "Hin Sam Glue" which was a very nice surprise. Absolutely worth the stopp. The service at 500 Rai was good. We appreciate the experience, but we would choose another floating resort should we ever come back.

Had a fabulous day out from Khao Lak to the Khao Sok National Park and Lake. Included a transfer from our hotel to the Park, a long tail boat trip across the lake to 500Rai, taking in the stunning scenery. At 500Rai we had use of the facilities (floating swimming pool and kayaks etc) and a fabulous buffet lunch.
This was then followed by a trip to the coral cave. We got extremely lucky to be allocated our local tour guide "Ice Cream". She was such a lovely girl, extremely knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife and really made the trip something special, really would recommend putting in a request for her to be your guide.

Lovely resort and service! We stayed two nights and loved the experience. The tours took us to the most beautiful places. Food and drinks were higher priced (but still less than Thai food in the USA), but they had a great selection. Plus they had electricity 24 hours a day and air conditioning from noon to 6 am — a true luxury on a very remote lake. Getting there takes 1.5 hour boat ride. I suggest booking directly with the resort to get the best deal and coordinate transportation.

We stayed there for 3 nights. The location and rate view are good, The cabin is realy basic and poor maintenance. No coffee machine, refrigerator or even hand soap. Rarely hot water in the shower even after multiple requests. They pride only one hour Wi-Fi, the cost of additional time is really expensive. Food is way below average and rate service is hampered by poor English of the staff. The provide service only every other day. For sure floating but not a reaper. RSTMN 5/10

Don’t think there was any fines and from our stay they wouldn’t have been bothered if you took your own drinks. You are supposed to leave large bags at the pier and travel with smaller ones that can easily be handled on the boats, might make taking lots of bottle a little more difficult 😂

Hi. Yes, that is correct. I understand you but don't worry as they were reliable. It was my Thai friends who drove and to be honest I have no idea to get there and even us got lost. My advice is either ask your hotel to help you plan your route of you are driving or simply ask 500 rai to pick you up from the airport or pier and they will take you to their office and they have a van to bring you to the dam. There is no reception at the hotel but they're completely organized once you get there. You'll have lunch first and then you can check in and relax.
