Celebrated my 70th Birthday here as a quiet meal with husband and I was not disappointed. Superb food, I had Barnary Duck and it was cooked to perfection, fish was the dish for my husband and it was so fresh it was almost still swimming. Being rather full after two courses we opted to share a dessert with our choice... More

We had 3 nights in room 3. On the first night, we ate in the restaurant and chose to eat there for the remainder of our stay, enjoying every meal. The portions are very generous and we felt heavier for our stay! The breakfasts were equally good - the Greek yoghurt with fruit was perfect. The staff were very friendly... More

Went to this restaurant on a recommendation. Me and Carol were out for our normal Wednesday trip.I said lets go to Rothbury.Ok so with me driving back up the A1 . Arrived in Rothbury.I was dissapointed. Never mind Carol asked a shop assistant can you recommend a restaurant and she told us about the Three Wheat Heads inn at Thropton.... More

This is a gastro pup in a small village and it's great. The room I had was very nicely appointed and had all the facilities that you would expect but the main reason to stay here is the food. I am vegetarian and normally that means a single choice of meal - not this restaurant I had a choice of... More

Our local art group visited here to paint and lunch last week. Staff were a bit thin on the ground, but we're very cheerful and attentive. Food took a while to arrive but everyone enjoyed their choices and vowed to return. Mine was a baked potato with bacon, chicken and mayo. It was served with a light salad garnish.

On holiday in the area and heard rave reviews! Still not sure if I was given the correct meal of lamb I had ordered but makes no difference, it was Ok but nothing special. I think the portions are big and that's what folks go for. The service was terrible, one poor soul trying to manage on her own, wanted... More

We were delighted to stumble upon this restaurant. It has superb views over the Coquetdale valley with a range of indoor and outdoor seating. As vegetarians we are used to having a limited choice, but not here. They have a wide range of veggie offers and lots of salad choices too. We can recommend the Greek salad, flavoured with fresh... Visited here for the first time for a birthday weekend away. On arrival rooms were all ready and well presented and the staff were very welcoming and made us feel very welcome. The views were amazing overlooking the Simonside hills /valley which were amazing. The food was very good and lots of choice and fairly priced and wouldn't hesitate on... More

Been going here for a number of years now. Never disappointed. Staff are obliging and really do want you to have a good dining experience. The menu is extensive and I like the way it is divided into sections: chicken; fish; etc. Great veggie options for those who want them. Attentive, unfussy service; just as I like it. Will certainly... More

Indifferent staff who seemed confused about reservations and left us standing around as if they didn't know what to do with us. The table when we were seated was in line with the door and hence draughty. The meal itself was certainly mediocre- restaurant prices for what was barely acceptable 'pub grub.' Starter of pate which was obviously bought in... More
