Had a hospital appointment a couple of miles away so was looking for somewhere close by to stay. Couldn't have picked a nicer place. I was welcomed in and shown an upstairs room which was lovely and clean, spacious and quiet. It was also quiz night in the bar so I joined a team with total strangers who were such... More

We were on a cycle trip and needed to stay near Morpeth or Newbiggin: there were not many choices, but I was so glad we found this lovely pub to stay at. Jackie, the owner, was extremely friendly and helpful and locked our bikes away for us in an empty downstairs room. We had a bedroom with an en-suite shower-room.... More

I stayed here on business. Jackie, the owner was fantastically friendly & helpful and your really felt welcome. The rooms were clean and came at a good price. The rooms are fairly basic, but clean and warm. Sharing a bathroom with other guests wasn't an issue for me. I'd stay again!

I stayed here for a night in September. Nice friendly welcome, showed to the room and very helpful re the local amenities. The sea views were fabulous, especially with the gorgeous sunshine. I'd definitely stay again. I do, however, agree with another review regarding the parking. It could be an idea to let people know that the main road takes... More

Went in for a pint with friends after having been to the beach. The staff are very friendly and there are some nice ales on tap which were reasonably priced. The pub benefit from a refurbished but it is situated in a lovely location right next to the beach.

My family, on both sides, were miners. This was something of a reminiscence tour for me having been born in Ashington, the largest pit village in the world! Chose this pub/hotel because of the happy memories I have of Newbiggin and the great promenade. The room itself was en-suite and was very comfy - the armchair in front of the... More

This Hotel is on the seafront with lovely views. When one arrives at the rear carpark, one gets a bad impression. There is a filthy dumped car there and building looks neglected. When pulling luggage round to the door, one enters a dark, dingy building and we walked into a scruffy bar. The owner was away so we were met... More

I promised I would write a review (written on behalf of D Hodkinson). The room was clean, newly furnished and had a great view of the bay. I stay in lots of accommodation all over the UK for business purposes and it is mostly average at best. The Old Ship was friendly and provided a great value-for-money base for my... More
