The White Buck Hotel delights many with its comfortable and well-designed rooms, though a few guests have encountered housekeeping challenges. Service is generally applauded, especially the friendly breakfast staff and reception, despite the occasional lapse in professionalism or speed. Its prime location is a hit among travelers eager to explore the New Forest, and the hotel's cozy atmosphere and pet-friendly amenities add to its charm. While cleanliness receives high marks, some guests question the overall value considering the cost.

We had a lovely stay here. So Christmassy but even other times of year would be so cosy felt homely. Reception lady was very welcoming and accommodating I asked if possibility to check in early and we were able to check in an hour early. the room was decorated lovely and really felt like a retreat away from it all. Fires and Christmas trees. We ate in the restaurant and all the food was hot and delicious and service was very good waitress passing regularly and food came quick. Location was very central for village visits and walks it was tough to choose whether to go out for walks or just stay in the hotel and relax with wine! We are already planning our next trip back

We Had an amazing 24 hours here, the building looks and feels lovely, with the old country style and view. Surrounded by the gorgeous new forest and in the lovely witchy village of Burley. The staff are all friendly and so polite. Julie at breakfast was a dream, so happy and kind. She was always pottering about making sure everyone was dealt with and everything was clean and tidy. Lolita at the evening meal was very kind, polite and nothing was too little or too much to do. On to the food, this was amazing and fantastic, so much flavour and great presentation. I had the pan fried scallops and game faggots.... WOW... TOTALLY RECOMMEND. The wife had the haddock, the chips, mint peas were perfect and the batter on the haddock was very light fluffy and non greasy. For breakfast we had a selection of hot and cold food, the granola is out of this world with the coconut yoghurt, the chefs make it on site, so no finding out the recipe lol.

A wonderful country hotel set in the middle of the New Forest. Beautifully and tastefully decorated in a traditional country house style.
We've stayed here four times now and stayed in various rooms. All are beautiful and comfortable.
All the staff deserve special mention for being friendly helpful and professional. Housekeeping staff, bar staff, waitresses, receptionists - all without exception are a credit to the hotel.
The food menu is good although could do with a few more veggie options if you are planning on eating here on more than one evening.
'Bed only' option is not available - which is a pity as we don't always fancy inhouse breakfasts.
Having said that, the breakfast menu is pretty standard but still good.
Only one EV charger at the moment but hopefully will be installing more in time.
Its a nice walk down into Burley Village or of course around the New Forest generally.
Dog friendly - including a dog wash area outside. No facility to dry dogs (some Forestry England sites now have wash and dry facilities!)
We will be coming back

We were very disappointed with our 3 night stay. The accommodation is very tired and especially carpets on the stairs and landings are dirty and badly stained.
House keeping is very poor. The first night the bed wasn’t made. The other 2 nights my 6 year old grandson could do a better job of making a bed. Tea bags and toilet rolls were not replenished which meant visiting the unattended reception to try and get redress.
During breakfast on the Saturday morning, it took 35 minutes to receive my full English. There was obviously a problem in the kitchen ( seeing a workman leaving the kitchen with a toolbox was a clue) but there was no apology when the food arrived, which included 2 hard eggs.
To add insult to injury, my wife left a thin cardigan behind. We telephoned them to ask if they could post it back but was told this was not company policy and we would have to arrange our own courier. After spending over ÂŁ700 during the 3 days I would have thought they could return it by second class post.
The hotel is owned by Fullers who are obviously running the place on a shoestring with minimal staff and a lack of expenditure on fixtures and furnishings.
Very poor value for money.

We visited on a Wednesday evening, we were given the keys to our room. We were a bit disappointed with the size of the room as my husband had stayed in the same room on his own. It wasn’t very large but was fine for one night for the two of us and a large dog. We got showered and went down to dinner, there were plenty of towels and a dressing gown and slippers.
We sat in the bar for dinner which was pleasant enough. We ordered a bottle of fizz and I ordered the fish & chips which didn’t take too long to come, the chips were hot under the fish but the fish was warm, the peas were different colours with mint sauce in them and again were just warm. The batter on the fish wasn’t crispy in the slightest but edible apart from the skin which the dog enjoyed. My husband ordered the pie and he said it was very nice and tasty.
After dinner we retired to bed to finish our drinks. The bed was very comfortable and large with a good sized tv. They had tea and coffee making facilities but no milk, not much good when you only drink breakfast tea.
We went down for breakfast the next morning after a decent sleep. I ordered the eggs Benedict and my husband poached eggs, there were cereals and fruit etc to help yourself too. It was great as our dog loves melon & pineapple. Our breakfast came very quickly, unfortunately the eggs were boiled hard and tasted very strongly of vinegar. I sent mine back and the lady explained how you put vinegar in poached eggs. Yes I know that but not to the extent where you can taste it. My husband fed his two eggs to the dog and left the toast. When my eggs came out for the second time they were much better in looks and taste, the sauce had been put in to a small jug but it was very difficult to get out as it wouldn’t pour. The breakfast room was pleasant and light.
I will add that this is a dog friendly hotel and it seems it as you walk into the initial lobby, there are no water bowls or blankets inside the bar or restaurant. There are no facilities in the room for dogs, no fridge for fresh food, no water bowl or food bowl, no blanket or bed and your pets aren’t allowed on the furniture. We had an awful view over the back of the kitchen, plus we’re bewildered why my husband was given a dog friendly room when he stayed on his own last time?
Would we visit again not unless we had no where else to stay in the area. I think it is more of a retired persons place to stay and I wouldn’t recommend the grounds to walk your dog in as there is no nice grassed area just Astro turf around the beer garden. Not one of the staff acknowledged our dog or offered water which begs the question are you employing dog friendly staff?

Hi Lisa, we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your dinner with us on Wednesday evening in the bar but sorry to hear that your breakfast was not up to standard. Furthermore, we are saddenned to hear that you didn't find your stay dog freindly enough! We pride ourselves on being very accomodating to pets. There are blankets and treats in the bar area availble for everyone, but cannot keep dog bowls out as they can be a trip hazard. We apologise that one of our staff members did not offer your dog some water- we are always more than happy to accomodate and have many water bowls for dogs. Furthermore, we apologise that you weren't offered any fresh milk for your room as it is available from reception/ the bar at any time in a small flask to keep cold. Thank you for your feedback, we will endevour to ensure that more information is available to guests in the future. Many thanks, the White Buck.

The location is fabulous, the decor was lovely, the room was spacious and the bed was comfortable.

However, the hotel let itself down with indifferent service levels from start to finish which sometimes bordered on being unprofessional. The room was missing items on arrival, the bathroom was untouched by housekeeping when they serviced the room and they delivered completely the wrong order at dinner one night, meaning that instead of sharing a meal, I watched my wife eat hers and then she watched me eat mine once they'd brought the correct one. We also noted that an important item had gone missing from our room, all of which the manager put down to it being a busy weekend!

He took the meals off the bill but these were basic mistakes that should never have happened.

The token for a complimentary G&T would have been nicer if it had been for both occupants of the room - at ÂŁ250/night you'd think they could afford to make it available for both occupants but when I checked I was given a very firm no...

Hi Keith, we are glad you enjoyed your room and had a comfortable stay. However, we are deeply apologetic for the service issues you experienced. your comments regarding the missing item in your room, housekeeping oversights, and your unfortunate dining experience do not reflect the standard we aim to provide. While we are glad that management was able to address the meal issue, we recognise that such basic errors should not have occurred in the first place. Please know that we take your feedback very seriously and will be working closely with our team to ensure this level of service is not continued. Thank you for your feedback regarding the free G&T, we will take that into consideration. However, there is also a complimentary bottle of London Pride in rooms available too which we regard as the other included drink in your stay. Thank you for your feedback, we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide a much improved experience. Best regards, Elise Fauvel Supervisor

We booked a weekend away at the White Buck for a special occasion. We booked the “Junior Suite” which came in at a whopping £296 per night, and brought our dog who was charged an extra £20 for.

Before I write this review, I’d like to say that I did leave detailed feedback with reception upon checkout and was told that I’d be contacted by management to discuss; however 14 days later I have had no communication from yourselves which is highly disappointing.

Firstly, the room was nice and large; but lacked attention to detail for over £300 a night. There was mould on the ceiling, mildew in the bathroom, marks in the “luxury” bath tub and clumps of dust that looked months old underneath the bed and sofa. Our room was “serviced” with a badly made bed (with the same bedding we had used the night before), and no hoovering, or dusting as there was mud on the rug from the day before. It couldn’t have taken more than 3 minutes. This is totally
Unacceptable, especially at this price point.

Secondly, our dog was not offered any bed, bowls, or treats - so what is the charge for? Leading on from that the room itself was not well equipped for a dog to stay in. There’s no fridge to keep food; there’s not even a flat surface for meal prep nor any storage available for dog gear. Dogs are “banned” from being on the furniture; yet you provide nowhere for them to exist comfortably. Luckily we brought our own bed; but all dog friendly hotels we have stayed in provide a much more adequate and thoughtful approach to their dog friendly service.

Thirdly, we had an awful dining experience. It took 2.5 hours to eat dinner, (we were booked in for 1.5 hours). They took one of our main orders incorrectly, promised it would take 10 minutes to make the correct dish; 30 minutes later they brought out the correct dish and served us the same steak sat under a hot plate for 30 minutes. The steak was ordered medium rare and arrived like leather. It had wilted rocket on top of it because they didn’t even bother removing that from underneath the hot plate. We weren’t checked on once; and weren’t offered any additional drinks. The manager removed the steak from the bill; but the meal was still very expensive.

Saving grace was your breakfast staff who were amazing. So attentive and kind; making us feel extremely welcome.

All in all, this was an unsatisfactory level of service and hospitality. The price is unjustified; when you can get better service at a fraction of the price. As mentioned it speaks volumes that you haven’t bothered to reach out to try and change our opinion.

We have been to The White Buck many times; but unfortunately we won’t be returning after this visit.

This is really a high standard B and B , and not a hotel. A lovely location, great decor , but the fact it is rooms within a pub , makes this not a hotel for me . Also the fact they charge over £250 per night , I think you could expect a fridge and air conditioning in the room . We actually checked out a day early , as was kept awake both nights by noise from the people above , probably due to the fact that all rooms had wooden floors and it is a old building, not the staffs fault I know , but the fact they was hoovering at 7.15am in the morning outside our room didn’t help . Also we stayed in room 9 , which seemed to be the meeting place for the cleaning staff , which meant most times we entered or exited the room , they was all sitting just outside having a chat . Breakfast was superb and staff in the dining area was lovely, reception staff not quite as helpful, as when we pointed out our concerns, was met with excuses rather than apologies .
They did however refund us for the night, When we left early, which was very good of them
Overall a nice place, but maybe ÂŁ100 per night over what it is worth

My partner and I stayed on Friday night (24th) for one night. We had stayed a number of years ago for our anniversary and it was lovely so we decided to return. Unfortunately, our return visit was extremely disappointing.

We are not a couple that complains but we feel we have to after our experiences and particularly after paying ÂŁ180 for the room for one night! We just do not feel our stay met the expectation of that price point.

Firstly, the welcome at reception could be better.

Secondly, the room, The Commoners-15. While the room was snug (very snug), the bathroom was abysmal. The tiles and grout were covered on black mould, the shower housing was cracked and parts of the housing were missing, there was a leak and a lot of black mould around the corners of the shower, the silicone sealant was all black and mouldy, the sink overflow had black mould, the sink itself had brown staining on it and the housing under the sink was all chipped and damaged. Basically the bathroom was grim and was not what I would expect for ÂŁ180! Mould can be treated with bleach!

Thirdly, we needed an extension lead to plug on an item, when we asked at reception, we found again, the response was one of disinterest. We thought to ourselves, at least pretend you are looking for one!

Lastly, the breakfast was all over the place. We had to ask twice for our tea and coffee and the sausages were inedible as they were not cooked. They were freezing cold and raw in the middle.

We were so looking forward to our visit but we can't see ourselves returning after this time.

Also, we noticed after leaving that they charge 10% service charge on dinner! An extra ÂŁ7 on our dinner bill! Excuse me, what?? If I wish to leave a tip, that is my perogative. We also left a cash tip for the server not knowing we'd already tipped ÂŁ7. Service charges are often charged on large groups, we were a party of 2. Meal was bang average too.

We are raging that we spent so much money on one night and received so little.

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The White Buck. Great customer service and delicious, well presented, freshly prepared food from start to finish. Compliments to the chefs who clearly own excellent skill. Our friendly waitress managed our expectations by making us aware of slight delay on food but that didn’t matter because the atmosphere was warm and relaxed. The White Buck has a wonderful setting, it’s unique in that it’s family and dog friendly yet manages to maintain restaurant standard in many ways - sparkling cutlery and glasses, napkins and candle on each table, these little things make a difference. Well done to the entire team this evening, I could see you were all very busy but your professional and pleasant service was seamless. Thank you - we will definitely dine again!
