We have just come back from 4 weeks at Maison Papaye..this is our 4th stay in this amazing b&b. The property is fantastic..immerse in lush gardens..with great pool. The rooms are very nice and very clean..very comfortable beds, tastefully decorated with air con and ceiling fans! The breakfast is fantastic..fresh fruit salad, pancakes, tea, coffee, cereals..fruit juice...to enjoy in the most relaxing and incredible veranda overlooking the garden, accompanied by interesting chats with Philippe and Marie Elene, attentive owners who will do their best to help you with everything you need during your holiday. All the food is freshly prepared with care and love by Marie Elene and Rosina, amazing house keeper. If you wish to eat at the property, you can arrange for an evening meal...you will be served autentic, delicious creole dishes freshly prepared with the best ingredients... If you want a home to home stay in a little corner of paradise then Mayson Papaye is the place for you. We love Mayson Papaye and we will be back soon.

We ordered 5 nights at the place. We had a nice welcome at Maison Papaye that supplied usa room with AC, but the AC could not cool the room better than 28° C  which is a very hot room!!!!. That was after waiting 2.5 hours to cool.  The owner (philipe) came to check the AC (when he was half naked) and decided that the room is freezing cold!  I decided that staying with such a guest house owner would be a grave mistake, and decided to leave and find myself alternative accommodations. He charged us 130€ per nothing which i find unjustified and aggravating.

Thank you for pointing out that you had a very nice welcome. But an hour later, you call me to complain about the air conditioned at 28° (!) which is WRONG since the remote control indicated 17°(new air conditioned installed since one month). On the other hand, you did not put the blades in motion (!) For my dress: I was not naked but in gardening clothes (!) The real solution is that you both an interest to follow a diet. Philippe

We have revisited Maison Papaye this year and find it to be, as before, a beautifully appointed house with an immaculately maintained garden. The house and garden are walled and there are lovely mature trees so it is very private with both sunny and shady spots. The pool is a good length and very clean with sunbeds and towels. The hosts, Philippe and Marie Elaine are warm friendly people, who make their guests feel welcome and at ease. The breakfast is delicious and includes freshly chopped fruit salad, proper tea/coffee and a selection of breads, cakes and pancakes. There is a retinue of maids and gardeners to maintain what is a lovely property. Marie Helene and the maid speak English well; I can't understand the review which queries this. I would look forward to staying with them again.

Very friendly, lovely and helpful hosts. The house is very nice, the atmosphere layback and spotless clean. Everything in the village is reachable by foot. For other activities and beaches a car is needed. We felt very welcome and would definitely come again.

Located in the southwest side of the island, I am glad I selected Maison Papaye for my stay in La Gaulette. This colonial style Mauritius guest house oozed of character and authenticity. Even though I was aware that my private bathroom was across the 2nd Floor (I was in the Africa Room), I had no regrets as the panoramic view from my terrace was picturesque and calming. My room was spotless and decorated in an African style. The A/C worked efficiently and if you prefer, there was also a ceiling fan as well. Breakfast was served out in the veranda which included great Mauritius tea, coffee, fresh juice, fruit salad, homemade yogurt, fresh crepes and cereals. Marie Helene's English was better than my French (!) and we understood each other when ordering taxis, etc through laughter and good will. P.S. As in other African B&B's, this property does not accept credit cards. A 30% payment is required upon booking and the balance is due on the day of arrival in Mauritius Rupees (MUR). If you have difficulty in obtaining rupees before traveling, the MCB (Mauritius Commercial Bank) is 7 minutes away by foot located in the LaGaulette Village Walk shops. You can change USD, Euros, etc. to Mauritius Rupees whenever you need to.
