I didn't realize this would only be my 2nd review on TripAdvisor - my first being in 2008. Boy does time fly. Since that first review, I've been exceedingly fortunate to have experienced some pretty special hotels around the world - in Dubai, Hong Kong, Korea, Panama and dozens of trips to Mexico. If you are thinking about Baja, and are seeking an absolute 1st-class, high-touch, stunningly designed and incredibly thoughtful resort, look no further than Mas Olas.

My wife and I returned yesterday from a combination birthday/anniversary trip. After some initial communications issues with the hotel (I understand that Mas Olas has somewhat recently partnered with Kimpton and are still ironing out some logistical details) I was offered a free upgrade to one of the beachside villas - #103 - with a private deck, fireplace, and plunge pool. The highlights: modern design, spacious, inside and outside rainfall showers, French press coffee, excellent wi-fi, super comfortable bed, fantastic lighting and everything else you'd expect from a 5-Star resort.

The food? Chef Sandro is a magician. With most of the organic vegetables grown on site, his dishes are an alchemy of the freshest ingredients and Baja-inspired flavors. To say I had some of the best meals of my life is not an exaggeration. Oh, and every morning by our villas' front door was a bag filled with fresh fruit, muffins and water.

What separates Mas Olas from the rest are its people. From housekeeping to the front gate, and from the bar/restaurant staff to the management, their goal was to make our stay, well, as wonderful as it was. I had a friend from Cabo come up for a lunch, and the back-of-house folks made me a custom google map that I could send to my friend. That's just one example of how they went the extra mile to make sure our experience was incredible.

To everyone at Mas Olas - what you guys are building is special. It's unique. I have no doubt that you'll soon be recognized as one of the top hotels in the world. Abrazos to everyone there - we will be back.

And to anyone who's read this far, stop reading. Go book. If you can swing it, get a villa. You won't be disappointed.

We recently came back from Rancho and stayed there for several nights. We were a bit concerned coming in because communication with the hotel was absolutely terrible, but were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hard product is excellent; the rooms are beautiful with great design, with quality materials everywhere. The grounds of the property are nothing short of stunning and the landscaping and gardens are incredible. The food at Botanica is also spectacular, and Chef Sandro is doing some really interesting things there. Centro was also good, and we had breakfast and lunch there or at the pool every day.

There is still construction happening at one end of the property and its likely not going to be done anytime soon. It wasn't very disruptive to us and we didn't see many construction people on the grounds at all. It's probably best to stay at the other end of the property to ensure no disruptions from the construction.

Even though we were there during the "soft opening" and managed our expectations accordingly, we had a number of service issues. It should be said that the service is good, and there are some superstars there who really get hospitality because they came from exclusive resorts in Cabo, but if this hotel wants to be a contender in the ultra luxury market, they have a lot of training to do. One day we had a missed turndown service, another day missed daily housekeeping so had to track someone down for fresh towels. The service at the pool was hit or miss depending on the server /bartender. It wasnt bad, it just wasnt top tier. We had several mix ups that were ultimately resolved but shouldn't have happened. In general we found the service throughout the hotel to be very reactive vs proactive, helpful but missing that extra oomph- notwithstanding some of the seasoned personele. Lastly, we found it a big miss that nobody actually asked us how we were doing or for feedback. Since it was a soft opening, I assumed they were working out kinks prior to a grand opening, but nobody asked us, even after our stay, so they have no idea of these problems. Rancho has the potential to be an excellent, five star hotel, but if they want to charge 5 start prices (room rates and f+b) they need to get their service to 5 stars as well.

The perfect place to decompress and reconnect with your partner. The ranch is 37-acres of farm, gardens, and desert landscape. Located 2km down a dirt track, the gate house opens into a stunning beachfront oasis. The service is exceptional, eschewing rigid formality in favour of warmth and personality which was very welcome. The farm-to-table restaurants are really good serving super fresh, organic, and creative food. The shop is beautifully curated and the they have a proper gym with free weights and smith machine. Whilst the accommodation prices are upscale, everything else (food, drinks, and shop) were reasonably priced, and all the service charge and tips go to the staff. The beach is stunning, but not for swimming unless you’re super capable. As compensation you’ll see whale pods migrating south from your balcony which was truly magical. The absence of light pollution made the night sky really special too. If you’re staying for more than a few days you’ll need a car to visit the local area as there’s no public transport or Uber. If you’re looking for a place to unplug, decompress, and reset—you won’t find better than Rancho Pescadero.

Property is still under construction. There was no pathway lights to my hotel building, literally pitch black walking to/from my room. The rest of the property is dimly lit at night as well. Because the hotel is under construction, the room I booked (ocean front) was apparently closed for the remainder of the construction time. For this reason, I would not recommend booking one of their higher end rooms because it may not be guaranteed when you arrive. The property also only has 2 restaurants for over 100 rooms. The main restaurant is only open for dinner. Food was incredible overall but lack of dining choices wasn’t ideal for how large of a property this is. The new seafood restaurant won’t be completed till probably July/August I would guess.

Dear Guest 753frequentraveller, Thank you so much for your feedback and to have taken the time to review the property, truly appreciate it. I am sorry to hear that you felt we are under construction, I won’t say that the hotel is under construction, allow me to share that we are just finalizing our 3rd restaurant, Kahal, an amazing seafront outlet that will be open very soon and it will increase even further our already rich culinary offer. Your upgrade in your room category was done with the aim to make you feel more comfortable. So sorry to hear we didn’t make you feel that way, accept my most sincere apology. As per our culinary offer our culinary experiences are different every night : from the winning Meat Less menu ( our culinary Team proudly was representing Mexico in a Dubai culinary context with a base plant menu from our farm and gardens) on Mondays , to the Taco pairing on Tuesdays and Saturdays, experiencing the most amazing combination of tacos and high quality Mexican wines , or the Smoking menu on Wednesdays , without forget the Pizza Pazza night at the most real Italian style on Thursdays , or the organic Fried Chicken on Fridays, and to finalize the week with our very popular by now Barbacoa Lazy Sunday Brunch, I hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you again and show you the Rancho culinary experience. I would like to reiterate my gratitude for your comments since help us to improve to serve you better. With warmest regards

AMAZING and highly recommended. Very serene. My wife and I came back for soft opening while at 20% capacity. Great service, farm to table food. Herb garden right by the main restaurant. And beautiful flower garden by spa. They bring a little morning welcome bag of goodies every AM, room comes with a mini fridge filled w 4 free beers, waters + soda and French press coffee per day. And turn down service is great, they leave you a little gift with cookies. We stayed at the pool for most of the day. Beach and ocean was peaceful (very few people) but too rough to swim in. Lots of activities to do (yoga, morning meditations, exercise classes, essential oils classes, etc), some complementary, some extra costs. Daniel at the pool, Ricardo at front desk, Roberto at gym, Luis the housekeeping manager… all amazing! The only two small gripes are that there was construction happening by the beach, and only two restaurants open. Regardless, We loved it and highly recommend. Nicest resort we’ve stayed at.

I stayed here for 4 nights and my experience with the staff was exceptional. This property is newly renovated so it's very clean, modern, and luxurious. Our room was the panoramic view with rooftop deck. It also had a good view of the ocean from the rooftop. It definitely has the "honeymoon" vibe to it. I highly recommend this hotel for a couples getaway. They have one of the most spacious walk in showers and double vanity sinks. The decor gives a natural, holistic, minimalistic touch. Almost everything is made of wood and there's plants everywhere. There's 3 pools with one heated pool and jacuzzi. The only thing we disliked is that it is very far from Cabo San Lucas (1 hour to 1 hour 15) and the international airport (1 hour 25 mins). Very hard to find taxis/uber in this area, must have transportations booked in advance. Hotel will not be able to find transportation on last minute notice due to lack of drivers because of the location. I recommend finding a tour guide if it's your first trip. We had one take us around every day (Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, and Todos Santos).

Rooftop cocktails while watching the sun set and whales pass by-- Rancho Pescadero is a magical place because of its location, the design, the flora and fauna, and above all, the care of the staff. We met such lovely and warm people which made our stay during their soft opening really wonderful. The restaurant helmed by Chef Sandro is delicious and so fresh and Chef Sandro himself is a delight. His team is top notch with their thoughtful service. We enjoyed the activities and the peace of the property. We are already planning for our next trip.

We were invited to book a room here as we stayed before they remodeled. We booked 4 nights (Nov 10-14), they confirmed 2 days before and offered airport transport; when we landed in Cabo on Nov 10 I received an email (it was sent while we were mid flight) that they couldn’t accommodate us due to construction and safety issues-we were stranded with no place to stay and had to scramble. They offered one night in a local hotel but then didn't respond to any questions about the rest of the weekend, rates, etc. We were on our own with our guests. We then were informed by some locals that the hotel hosted an event for the food and wine festival that same weekend. I understand that issues come up unexpectedly-but that is not what appears to have happened. Extremely disappointing about the lack of any apparent concern and transparency to the reason.

After several days in the bustle of Cabo San Lucas, we drove up the Pacific coast to this isolated boutique hotel, about 50 minutes north of Cabo. What a difference! Rancho Pescadero is spacious and peaceful-pure relaxation. As portions of the the hotel are still being completed, January was their soft opening month. It seemed that they have restricted rooms available because hardly any guests were visiting besides us. Our room had a rooftop balcony, outdoor sitting and lounging area, and spacious bedroom with a view of the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. Both a main floor balcony and a rooftop balcony really expanded our available space. The views were amazing while watching the rolling Pacific tides, the jumping humpback whales, the wave riding surfers, and the shining sunsets every day. The attentive staff—from greeting to departure and at every opportunity between—gave personal, welcoming touch throughout our stay. We were particularly pleased by attention from Alberto, our server at the Centro Restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and the entire company of management and staff at the Botanica Restaurant. Menu choices and presentation were imaginative and delicious. There may be nearby restaurants, but we found no need to venture off grounds away from the solitude and pleasures of this coastal oasis. The Rancho Pescadero grounds are simply beautiful: the desert garden walk to check-in, the culinary garden supplying herbs and vegetables for the restaurant, the reflective and swimming pools of varied temperatures (pool between beach and bar is quite warm, pool between bar and Centro is warm, and pool between spa and gym is cooler), colorful floral gardens, winding paths (paved, stone, or sand), wide beaches to enjoy running in the morning or sitting in a cabana at sunset, and architecture that incorporates the seaside landscape.

We eagerly await our return to Rancho Pescadero.

It’s about an hour away from SJD. I would recommend renting a car so you are mobile and can make trips into Todos Santos and down to Cerritos as well.
