I am originally from Rhodes and the West coast of the island is my favourite part!! It is mostly unspoiled and less touristic full of dramatic scenery, castles, ancient monuments, small villages with the most authentic and tasty food. We have chosen Auberge Kalopetri because we wanted to dive every day and we couldn't have found a more relaxing and wonderful place to stay!! The place is located in a beautiful spot with great views of the sea, the apartments were stylish and in keeping with the surroundings. Ulrike, the owner, is very polite and accommodating and she has made our stay memorable as she even managed to get me every day prickly pears which I adore :). Thank you so much for everything and see you next year!!

Just came back from a wonderful short vacation (4 nights) with a good friend. We enjoyed our stay so much! 40 min drive from the airport and you arrive to the beautiful valley where the Auberge is located. Car rental was arranged in advance with Ulrike, everything went smoothly, also super-friendly and professional service from J&D Rent a Car. We loved everything about the place: the location, the rooms, the food at dinner and breakfast (many home-made things), the friendliness of the owners and their staff. Follow Ulrike's tips of things to do and see or where to eat. Must eat at Taverna Paraga in Apolonna and a day trip to the beautiful island of Halki (boats leaving from nearby harbour of Kamiros Skala). We also very much enjoyed our visit to Rhodes town (1h drive). And off course I have to mention the little bay and beach of Copria. No need to look for a better beach. Crystal clear water, free sunbeds, Johnny's Taverna nearby for a drink or food. I cant wait to come again to Auberge Kalopetri!

After a dark drive from the airport (check very carefully on Google Maps where you’re going!) we were warmly greeted at 10.30 pm with a beer and a Greek salad by Ioannis. Next morning we were able to see that all the reviews we had based our holiday choice on were completely accurate. The apartment is tasteful, comfortable and well thought out. Ulrike and her husband are really the most wonderful hosts, warm, professional and great sources of information and it was on Ulrike’s advice that we brought forward our trip to Halki. She had the insight to guess the boats would be cancelled for a couple of days because of the wind. The walk to the nearby beach down Ioannis’s home-made path through fields of aubergines, grapes, melons, pears and peaches is a treat in itself, although sturdy shoes are necessary. The plentiful breakfast on the terrace with other like-minded guests is outstanding and Ulrike’s twice-weekly evening servings of goat and rabbit were excellent value, the complimentary digestifs adding to the lovely atmosphere. The starry nights are a revelation to those of us used to light pollution and we were amazed to hear that we were only the ninth visitors from the UK this season. This retreat has been created with love and imagination and is not suitable for those desiring all-inclusive deals and entertainment at every turn. It is hard to believe that this idyllic haven with its peaceful terrace and fabulous views can be found less than an hour’s drive from the busy, hectic, touristy parts of Rhodes.

Meet Ulrike, the Belgium lady who fell in love with the Greek prince on a donkey (her words). She is kind, talkative, helpful and factual. No over-promises, no fancy pictures. Only nice touches and tranquility. This is not the typical tourist resort serving masses and the last minute booking masters travelling on a budget. This is rather a classy hide-out on the western shores, far from the crowds and usual attractions. Rooms are first class: air-conditioned, clean, independent, silent, and with a nice view. Silence is only disturbed by the occasional donkey cry or the roaster's chit-chat where you can enjoy nature at its best. But you'll need transport for there is almost nothing in walking distance (except a tiny beach and a day time taverna) but withen a couple of km's you'll find lots of restaurants, historical ruins and wildlife. Lastly, don't forget : the wind blows from the west, hence rough waters.

We have recently returned from our second stay at the excellent Auberge Kalopetri, which was every bit enjoyable as the first. Efficiently run by the friendly and ever helpful owners Ulrike & Ioannis, the Auberge is in a beautifully situated and peaceful part of Rhodes - sea and island views from all rooms, a small pebbly beach plus taverna a short walk down the hill, and a harbour with adjacent restaurants a few minutes’ drive away. Our one bedroom apartment was compact but more than adequate, with everything designed, fitted and maintained to a high standard. Breakfasts made extensive use of locally grown produce, and the convivial, tasty dinners available two/three times a week were very good.
