We spent two nights here and the staff was very helpful and nice. They helped us get a taxi and bargained the price with the driver, gave us a free drink the day of our departure and made us two delicious meals in the italian style restaurant, Very pleased with our stay here!

We just come back from our second one week trip to Maison d'italie within two years. The stay was a pleasure! The staff did not change at all which is a good sign. They are very welcoming and it is nice to see that they constantly try to improve. Attention is paid to small details. Don't expect a luxury hotel or a european style boutique hotel. However La Maison d'italie has honest, very clean rooms with mosquito nets, TV, and AC. Note that there is no power between midnight and 8am, there are battery powered lights in the rooms. (Slow) free WIFI in the restaurant. An ideal place to combine your holiday in busy Dakar with some beach life. A big thank you to Roslalie and her Crew.

We had a 9 days stay at Chez Carla.Despite the fact the food is good & service at first was excellent (except for no hot water on first & last day & no electricity at night & no Wi-Fi in rooms), issues with billing occurred. Travel to airport & back already confirmed & part of bill was then rebilled but had to recalculate everything with her to convince her not to re-charge us & she eventually removed that cost but my receipt was not proof enough to her. She charged us every morning for tea & coffee saying we didn't specify if we wanted breakfast coffees, still don't get it & decaf is apparently not just coffee (no warning of these not being part of breakfast). Also if we say ok I'll have a little bit of milk with coffee, it gets charged cafe au lait. I asked her to remove 7 euro/day for included breakfast as we were being billed individually for items. She said breakfast was not included it was complementary. I showed her our receipt & as well as her ad on-line as we were staying in the double superior room but she said those were not valid. We looked over the bill of food & found 10000cfa worth of simple calculation mistakes alone on the sheet where she was not happy to correct. She charged us for room service every morning but there's no phone so we order downstairs wait & when we take it up they say no & they bring it with us, now that's room service to them at 3000cfa per day on top of all other breakfast add-on charges. She agreed to reduce room service for a few days instead of everyday. She threatened us if we didn't pay all these charges she will have people there making sure we didn't leave the island and she said this loud. (no one even said we were not going to pay, we were correcting errors, not professional & a little crazy). We paid in full with remaining of her ridicules surcharges. Then on last day we were almost left stranded as the driver of hotel boat confirmed an early pick up to airport a few days earlier & had it on receipt but at 3pm the day before the 5:30am pick up the next she said she was not able to bring us back across even if confirmed & no other boat worked before 8am & we were going to miss our flight. We had to check out suddenly but not without having to convince her we needed to leave & find a hotel on land to be able to get a taxi to airport. We carried our heavy luggage around Dakar & check it to a last minute hotel to catch our flight.

This Italian inspired restaurant is right on the water, overlooking mainland Dakar. When you get to the beach on the mainland, call the hotel shuttle boat and they will come and pick you up. They also have some simple but nice hotel rooms.
