PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY if you plan to stay at this hotel. I stayed 2 nights with my wife and 2 kids, August 16 and 17. Please excuse my English, I am French, but I want the maximum people to know this. Everything positive that has been said is TRUE: Well located, very charming hotel, nice swimming pool to relax… BUT the front desk lady (I don’t remember her name, maybe Irene, but she is the one working in the morning) is a SCAM AND THIEF! On the Saturday morning, I bring my laundry across the street of the hotel, following her recommendation and asking them to bring it back to the hotel at the end of the day. When I returned in the evening, William the other person working at the front desk, could not find any laundry bag under my name. No big deal, I decided to wait until the next morning. Well the next morning, Irene (let’s call her that) told me that the shop was closed on Sunday, but she was going to do anything to contact the owner of the laundry business for me to have my clothes before leaving the hotel that day. Less then one hour later, my laundry bag was at the front desk and she explained that she was able to reach the owner who came into town to open the store. It was 8 am. I was very happy and gave her 200 pesos for helping me and we went out for breakfast. At 9h30 we came back in our room and I could not open the safe. There was an error code, wrong code…. No big deal… I went to see my friend Irene, who said with a big smile, no worries I will open it for you. And then she did with a dummy code 88888888 and left the room. I had withdrawn the day before, exactly 10 000 pesos in 500 bills. Very easy to remember. I do not know why but I counted my money, and surprise I had 9 500 pesos. I could not believe it and even started to doubt myself… but then I tried something. I closed the safe with my code. Opened it with the 888888 code and closed it with the same code. Off course my code could not worked afterward and then I knew with certitude that someone from the hotel did it. I asked Irene to follow me in my room and I explained everything and told her that I wanted to talk to the manager and asked her to call the police. She immediately told me that she was going to find a solution and she was going to check the security camera. Less than 10 minutes later, she told me that the hotel manager was going to investigate and agreed to refund me the 500 pesos right away. So, she gave me a 500 bill. I started to doubt her at that moment because I saw fear in her eyes when I mentioned that I wanted to talk to the manager after his investigation because I wanted to know who did it… So now, how could I be certain that it is her? Because I took pictures of all my baggage’s and personal belonging that was still in the same armoire where the safe was, before going out again for some souvenirs shopping. I did the check out and kept my baggage with me at the hotel restaurant ( did not want to leave them at the front desk…). When it was finally time to leave, she came to me and said that she found the solution! The 500 bill was under the armoire of the room and she even took a picture to show it me! I did not buy it and was disgusted at this point, and said ok, bye. I did not realize at this point that I had taken picture of the same spot… And of course, there was no 500 pesos there. I sent a message to the hotel asking for the manager’s name and contact, but I haven’t received an answer yet. BE VERY CARREFULL IF YOU STAY THERE. If you are the hotel manager, please contact me and I will provide you all the pictures that I have taken of the room which will give you the absolute proof that your staff steals from customers.

Response from HOTEL S, Gerente at Hotel Socaire
Responded Aug 20, 2019
Good morning, dear Mr. Faure: My name is Gerardo, the hotel manager, an apology in advance for the delay in answering your mail that you sent us a few days ago, we did not follow up to the next day since we had believed that your report was resolved before leaving the hotel. What we managed to conclude is that everything was due to a misunderstanding, the lady in reception desk reported me the event by telephone since I was not personally at the hotel because it was Sunday (administrative staff rest day) and the person Responsible in turn was supervising the restaurant service that was saturated by the breakfast service, so the instructions of his case were given by phone to the area of maids and reception to be able to solve his request, so I was aware of everything that happened. Because you had already vacated the room and required an immediate solution, the instruction was given to reimburse the total lost money even without having proof of what you claimed was true, since our staff is trained to provide an immediate solution and you could continue your trip without delays that would harm you and later we would investigate with the staff what happened to take action on the matter. A verification of the electronic lock of his room was made and no foreign opening was detected with another key but only the key programmed for guests. Since you had vacated the room, the maid proceeded to make an inspection in the room to verify if by accident the money had fallen into any area of the room. Your money was found on the floor under the closet where the safe is located and as soon as it was found, you were informed while you were still at the hotel having breakfast to clarify the situation. As a company we have the certainty that the people that make up our work team are people of trust and would not lend themselves to performing immoral acts so you can be certain that it could not have been someone of our staff, we also have electronic locks maximum security that allows us to identify the openings of the room. Our staff strives to do their best to make our guests' stay enjoyable by helping in whatever they can, as it helped you to contact the owner of the laundry where he left his clothes, which is foreign to the hotel. We regret any inconvenience, as well as the inconvenience caused, and hoping to have clarified your doubts, I remain at your service. Best regards!!

This is a lovely hotel, with family courtyards, decor and architecture. The rooms are nice, if a little impersonal, but are clean and spacious. The service was excellent. The restaurant attached to the hotel was very good for dinner and breakfast. The hotel is located right in the heart of Campeche and perfect for exploring

We traveled with several family couples. Our rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff greeted us with fresh cold drinks even though it was late at night when we arrived. We often had breakfast at the attached restaurant, that seem to be run by a young, capable staff. We were impressed with the beauty, simplicity and the location of this hotel. It is an easy walk to the center of the town. It is not what a typical American tourist might expect from a boutique hotel. One must remember if you are traveling to a Third World country, to set your expectations accordingly. We were pleased, comfortable, and charmed. (We visited November 2013, however TripAdvisor would not allow me to select such an earlier travel date.)

Great small hotel in the historic center of Campeche. Comfortable, clean rooms with good bathrooms and amenities. We have stayed here before and always find the staff more then helpful and very friendly. Rooms have AC, ceiling fans, good water pressure and comfotable but firm matresses. Centrally located to the entire city center and easy walking to everything. Well remodeled historic building which ensures your feeling of being in a city that was founded inthe 1500s.. Room number 10 which we had this time has a private courtyard and large covered portal with comfortablr furniture. This room is also handicapped accesable with ramp etc. Large room and very large bathroom.
