Beautiful property, felt secure & very easy to find. Great location & well equipped for a large group with kids ( we stayed at Great Calva). Staff were lovely, games took very impressive & the use of a spa & pool at a local hotel was fantastic!!!

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate some big family birthdays. We we’re a group of 10 adults & 5 children. We had an amazing time. The separate “wings” for the bedrooms is great. Everyone had their own space and it never felt cramped. The big table in the dining area was perfect for us all & we spend most of our time here! The hot tub is a great size and nice & toasty! We also went to north lakes spa, we phoned ahead to make sure that they could accommodate us. It was a great add on to our stay. Beds are comfy, rooms a good size, the kids loved the wee sitting room and spent most of their time in there. The lounge area is huge, plenty room for us all. Lots of storage space. The 2 ovens in the kitchen were a god send! 2 fridge freezers was also a bonus, we had a drink fridge & food fridge!! The view is amazing, unfortunately the weather was a bit rubbish so we didn’t manage our on any of the local walks. Gemma came to make sure we were settled in & give us a wee rundown on the heating etc and was in hand if we needed her. The kids loved the games room & the play park. The adults also had some competitive games of table tennis & pool! We would definitely return.

Fabulous weekend with our family coming together in the Great Calva lodge for a belated Christmas get together. The lodge was exceptional and just what we needed for a relaxing break for 13 of us aged from 3 to 70. The kitchen was the hub of our activities and the lovely space with log fire in the lounge was perfect for relaxation. Recent renovations have added a hot tub and sauna. Add on the games room and the pass for the Lakes hotel pool and spa, made it a perfect weekend for all. Can’t wait to come back.

Massive thank you to Gemma for welcoming us to the cottage, the cosiest and most relaxing break we’ve had as a couple! 5* all the way! The cleanliness of the cottage was amazing! As for the views…they were to die for, we would 100% recommend booking, it is so worth the money. Will be back a lot sooner then we think! If the hot tub wasn’t amazing alone there was also a games room, we’ve never felt to chilled out. Thank you again

A bunch of rustic cottages laid out in close proximity yet all private and independent with a central social area. The location is so quiet and peaceful and a good base point for the north lakes. I echo the 5* ratings posted so far. Luxury and comfort at every level. It is remote so for Dining and visiting the local coop, in Dalston a car is needed. We visited the Dog and Gun pub at Skelton which was eclectic in style and spectacular food. I could recommend a full lake circular walk around Derwent Water as it’s not demanding, stunning and about 4 hours. For hard core mountain walks you’re spoilt for choice but about 45 mins away. I Strongly recommend Monkhouse Cottages.

Back again for our third stay at Monkhouse and each time it seems to get better. This is fast becoming my favourite place to visit. This time we stayed in Round Knott which is plenty big enough for myself, my husband and our two golden retrievers. The cottages have everything you could possibly need, the kitchen is better equipped than my own at home! The wood burners are lovely on cooler evenings as is the hot tub on the balcony. Beds are comfy, it’s clean. There is nothing not to love about this place and we will definitely be back again in future.

We left booking our minimoon to very last minute due to covid. When we looked, Mickle Rigg was the only place in our price range in the Lake District and we snapped it up in an instance. I paid extra for the Honeymoon package and that was such a lovely thing to walk in to. Gemma sent me instructions a few days before we arrived and it made all the process easier. Our cottage was perfect was just us 2, equipped with everything we would need for our stay. The bed is super comfy and we had a milk, pack or biscuits and plenty of hot drinks ready for our arrival. We didn’t know much about the Lakes but this cottage seems a lovely location, up north from the Lakes but still within driving distance. The local guide and to do section of the website has been our bible and has given us plenty to do. Highly recommend and would revisit again!

Stayed for a short break and wished we had booked for a week or longer. They place is beautiful and the cottages are very clean with beautiful views. I was worried my kids would complain but it was the other way round. They were well entertained. They spend time on the grounds and every evening they went to the games rooms. It's a peaceful and tranquil place. We're definitely going back and for longer this time.
