I can honestly say that I reckon this was just about the best "value" hotel I have stayed in. My wife and I had a two night break while visiting the nearby museum. Every member of the team we met and spoke to were a credit to themselves and the business. We stayed in room 33 on the top floor. Well appointed and comfortable. We had dinner both evenings in the restaurant which is a very comfortable, light and airy yet maintains a casual formality, with a really good vibe to it. The food was "good". Breakfast was the same - excellent. The bar area like the rest of the hotel was well designed, welcoming and comfortable. If you are thinking of going to another hotel in the area, I would say don't.

This was a little surprise for my partner for an overnight getaway. Stayed just for the 1 night mid June and I have to say it is in the most beautiful picturesque part of the country. For all you are only 10 minutes outside durham and not far from Newcastle it is simply an ideal location. We stayed in one of the Ground Floor Executive Rooms. Literally drive up to your door. It was a lovely room, clean and what i was expecting. Very big soft superking bed too. We also had a few drinks in the bar. Yes - they are a little pricey but not too bad to be totally honest. We did not eat in the restaurant on the evening as we decided to have a walk across to the local. It's literally across the road and everything you would expect from a local country pub. Roaring fire, and quaint. The food here was excellent and could not fault it. We did have Breakfast in the hotel, this was also excellent. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. There was no issues while we were here and I have to say we would happily go back.

Stayed overnight, room only, while visitingthe museum. Clean room, comfortable bed, Netflix on TV, it was quiet, though you do hear the noise from water pipes in adjascent rooms , but we slept well. Will come again, as the museum ticket is valid for a year.

We visit friends in the north east several times each year and always stay at this family owned hotel which is conveniently located to visit friends - is always good value for money and offered a good standard of accommodation- and convenient parking outside the patio door entrance of your allocated room. The en suite bathroom is a decent size and the room is equipped with a decent quality bed and more than adequate storage space for clothes etc. The hotel has a bar and restaurant which is open until late. It also accommodates wedding services and receptions and for golfers there is a golf range alongside the hotel! We highly recommended this hotel. Reviewed by Rob & Linda Nixon (Sheffield)

Stayed for one night in early May while visiting the living museum. Room was a little tired but comfortable clean warm and well stocked. Service from all the staff from reception to dining was excellent. The food choice was limited but the food itself was excellent obviously top class fresh ingredients cooked to order by competent chefs. We will be visiting again at the earliest opportunity.
