The rooms are adequate and clean, B U T there is no hot water in room #2. First day I sponge bathed second day I HAD to bite the bullet and take a 50 degree shower. Not the most comfortable thing to do, frankly it sucked. Especially because we were both grumpy from being kept awake until 2:30 in the morning by the blaring music from the bar next door. It seriously sounded like we WERE AT THE BAR OURSELVES. I would Not book this venue again.
Based on previous reviews we booked two nights at La Mision. The staff was very kind and attentive. The room was clean, and when there was water for the city we had what we needed. A good night sleep was elusive, however. The bar across the street was very loud from about 7 pm till after midnight. I believe that all the main rooms have a window to the street. So, it was noisy, with no real way around it. Breakfast was fine, but nothing special. Given the other options in Rivas we did okay, but I expected a bit more from the staff. The courtyard has so much potential, a great space for rocking chairs. So much could be done for short money to make the place great.
Stayed one night with my boyfriend, after Ometepe and before catching a bus to Costa Rica. This place is basic but fine for one night. Pros: spacious room, clean, good a/c. Cons: no WiFi although advertised.
La Mision hotel is really nice, safe and quite place. Is situated close to the bus station and main square. But, despite we told to the lady from reception we have bed bugs in our room, she didn't removed us to other room and just took a spray and did fast cleaning around the place where we saw the bug. So, iwe felt a bit uncomfortable, because we were only guests in the hotel. Breakfast is for $5 and I think, it is overpriced and you will get much more at some comedor for that amount of money. However, the hotel is really nice. If you avoid the bed bags room, don't take the separated one oposite to kitchen. Wifi is very fast.
Though my stay at La Mision only laste one night, the hotel left a lasting impression. The reservation process was easy--I just called a week in advance and gave them my name. The hotel was immaculately clean, the beds amazingly comfortable, and the air conditioning crisp and cool. We left at 6am, but they still managed to serve us a delicious breakfast of eggs, toast, and coffee at the crack of dawn. We took a bicycle taxi from the bus stop in town, ask when you make your reservation how much that taxi should cost. The receptionist gave an honest answer and can help you avoid getting overcharged by the taxi drivers.
I had an excellent stay at the hotel. I went for a day and stayed 3. My room was with a large comforble bed, flatscreen cable tv, hot water, free wifi and an excellent breakfast. I was recomended by a friend to go on the farm tour which was a fantastic experience. The farm has a variety of activities such as horse back riding, hiking, cow milking lol, plus the hacienda home has a large rancho with a pool!! I went with acouple of other guests & we had a ball. We jumped in the pool, BBq some ribs & pinchos, and i took a nap in a hammock. At night we all went to Mango¨s which is a lively bar-n-grill by the museum. they had ice cold beers which are refered to as *bella blancas¨ lol.....I had a great experience, made new friends & hope to be back soon...=)
We love Hotel La Mision. I currently live on Ometepe in Nicaragua and at various times have needed to stay in Rivas and I come and go from the island or deal with shopping on the mainland. We tried La Mision on the first such trip and it is our go to. Fair prices, large rooms, TV, air conditioning, a pleasant inner courtyard, friendly staff, good security (yes, the gate is locked and you have to have a staff member let you in or out; but that's a good thing for security), nice included breakfast. Hotel La Mision is close to restaurants and the Central Market and it's easy to walk out and watch a pedicab to anywhere else you need to go. Yes, on the weekends there is a pop-up bar across the street, so yes, it creates some noise. Not a problem during the week.
Upon first inspection this place was great! $40 got you a private room in the back with AC! It's walking distance to the park and easy to find your way back to. The downside of this room is that there is an independent water pump for the room, located right outside the window... That is overwhelmingly loud. They have to turn it off if you want any sleep but then you can't shower or flush the toilet! I might be able to do it again but definitely only for one night.
La Mision has it all! Hugh spotless rooms with ac,wifi and 37 inch cable tv,s.Big breakfast with all the extras,Location is perfect two blocks north your in the center of town, where everything is!Be sure to ask about the City Tour and Ranch Tour.A most do Mango,s sport and event restaurante, A group from the Hotel went dancing,Great night! Marta and Allian are the best host I have ever stayed with! The place is beautiful and peaceful, large courtyard very green with a parrot that says her name at Happy Hour, Margarita! The inside secure parking and Great Rates!
Having just read other reviews for this place I can only say ditto. Moon guide book says of it, "The prettiest hotel in Rivas." I say one of the prettiest hotels anywhere. If you are lucky you will get some tour advice and history of Nicaragua lessons from the young owner. Highly recommended.
